yave1964 Posted June 28, 2015 Share Posted June 28, 2015 Going into the draft, Chicago was looking to dump salary, and the Rangers were in a similar position. Chicago did not make a dump move for the sake of making a move, Wednesday is free agent signing day and rather than rush into things they simply decided to wait and see how things shake out then. I still think they are asking too much for Sharp but it is possible that by waiting the offers may improve. The Rangers attacked things aggressively, surprise deal was trading Hagelin who is a bit of an overachiever to the Ducks for Etem and a second rounder, and Cam Talbot, a solid backup goalie to the Oilers for three draft picks. So they loaded up with picks, got cheaper and added a serviceable forward in Etem who should crack the bottom six. But it is an under the radar move by the two teams that I think will pay dividends for both. Antti Raanta became expendable in spite of his under 2.00 goals against with the development of Scott Darling. The Rangers after trading Talbot needed a good backup goalie and acquired Raanta from the Hawks for rookie forward Ryan Haggerty. Haggerty instantly moves into a role in the bottom six for the Hawks forwards playing for the league minimum, he can score a bit and has a great motor and plays a 200 foot game. Haggerry became expendable with the trade for Etem. Raanta and Haggerty are not sexy pickups, but the two of them are the type of players who exactly fit a hole on the team that traded for them.
