notfondajane
I'm some what surprised at this! After scoring the series winner against Pittsburgh I thought he would stay a little while longer!

Phillygrump
I am not sad to see Hagelin gone from the division
jammer2
@Phillygrump Yes, he hurt the Flyers more than once. He was a fast shifty little jitterbug of a player. He will fit in nicely with the Ducks. They have a huge team that can protect him properly and open up some ice for him. Etem has never lived up to potential, but he still young enough to have some upside. hf101
Although fast and shifty Hagelin committed some unnecessary stick infractions and found his way to the penalty box at key moments. But I think this trade is mainly about cap space, Hagelin was expected to receive a hefty pay raise this upcoming summer, expected in the range of $3.5-$4 million. On the other hand, Etem is an impending restricted free agent with no arbitration rights, and can be qualified for approximately $850,000.

I applaud thee! Hags is definitely a speedster, but takes his share of bonehead penalties. You'd think a guy like Hags wouldn't need to hook or trip the opposition, but he can get careless with his stick. At the end of the day, as you stated, this was a cap move we felt forced to make. We knew what we had with Hags. There was no more upside and it would've been impossible to justify a 4 mil AAV contract to Hags. Besides his ability to fly up & down the ice, there were no other intangibles. No great shot, no playmaking ability, no soft hands, no physical strength, etc... He was expendable. Etem has similar speed...but with a more physical build and greater upside from a scoring perspective. No one knows what Etem can do on a line centered by someone like Kevin Hayes. The potential is there for some pretty good numbers....at a fraction of the cap hit Hags would have taken.
