Parture
Are teams figuring out Connor McDavid? When you are the best player in the NHL every team focuses on a game plan against McDavid which makes it hard for McDavid to even get a point per game. So McD has to change his strategy, e.g. pass more possibly or hold the puck more like Gretzky instead of just barreling down the ice. Just a theory. TropicalFruitGirl26
Eventually, ALL players have a "book" on them made out by other teams the longer they are in the league. When you have the kind of talent and projected growth that a player like Conner McDavid has, that book get extra attention. Nothing really new here. This has been going on for decades, particularly on star players. Players make adjustments to the league as the league makes adjustments to them. It's why you often see rookies have outstanding campaigns only to follow it up with mediocre ones the following year. League adjustments. But the better players can either avoid or bounce back from such things by continually growing as professionals. In the case of Conner McDavid, he can likely get away with some things your average "good player" couldn't through sheer talent, but even he, I am sure, is smart enough to realize that you can't stagnate in this league. Not so sure McDavid has to necessarily 'change' what he does, but more like, simply adding to his game as he grows as a professional, or even just continuing to do what he does (along with his teammates and coaches) until teams can PROVE they can stop him effectively. Great players can sometimes go 2 or more games with a point, all without meaning that the league has figured them out. It happens to every great player. Parture
Guessing. McD gets 2 points tonight against the Blues.
jammer2
Well, the 19 year old is 3rd in the league with 8 points, if that is figured out, I'd be shocked. You can scheme all you want about McDavid, the problem is, his elite speed, hands and smarts allows him to impose his will on you, that is the bottom line, there is no preparing for that kind of talent.
