The Pens have signed goalie Matt Murray for an additional three years, further muddying the waters for the upcoming expansion draft.

Played great in the playoffs, but I'd rather have seen him for a full year before the signed him for a $3.75M/yr cap hit. That being said, does this officially start the MAF trade watch?

I though we had to protect Fleury in the expansion draft because of his NMC clause?

I agree though - this signals the end for Fleury somehow after this season as the Pens cannot afford to keep two netminders totalling over $9,000,000 in cap space.

Yes, they have to protect him in the expansion draft, but his NMC is limited, so he can choose the teams he can or cannot be traded to.  The Pens may look at that list and see which teams need a MAF, and work from there.
