Fixing the Beloved Canadiens -- Revisited

Hey guys. You may remember my very first topic on this site was about how the Canadiens could be fixed. I suggested either we get a new coach, acquire a top 3 scorer, or a tough guy. Well, unless you've been hiding under a rock, Jacques Martin was fired earlier this year and replaced by Randy Cunneyworth, and Michael Cammalleri was traded to Calgary for Rene Bourque (during a game I may add). Under Cunneyworth, Montreal is 6-14. Before they fired Martin, they were 13-12-7. This was obviously a p

The Vancouver Canucks, through the eyes of the enemy

After going one by one through each NHL team message board the past couple of days and asking the question, why do they hate us? Some things have been made very clear. In almost every market in the Eastern USA the common response as to why they hate the Canucks seems to be quite simple, they don't. Most of them could actually care less about the Canucks as not only do they rarely meet with the current structure of the NHL schedule, but they have bigger fish to fry in terms of their divisional

Another "When it Started" Win

On Wednesday I declared the 6-0 win over the Bruins could be the game fans look back at to point to when the comeback started. However last nights game might be another one of those games. Kari Lehtonen stood on his head for 40 minutes and early in the 3rd Dallas increase their lead to 2-0. Buffalo appeared to be on the path to a frustrating L however, minutes Radek Dvorak took an awful penalty hauling down Vanek in the neutral zone. Vanek would capitalize on a nice tip on the PP. The score

The fire still burns

Over the course of the next few months BrowntoBure will be scouring North America, speaking to a fan from each NHL city to find out the answer to the question that just won't seem to go away. Why do they hate us? First up, one of Vancouver's oldest foes, The Calgary Flames. Today we caught up with Trevor Martins, producer of the Sekeres and Price show. Which airs 10am-2pm, Monday to Friday on the Team1040 in Vancouver. Here's what he had to say: So living in Vancouver, how exactly did you bec

Calling all NHL fans

Over the last couple years there's been much made over the Canucks being "the most hated team in hockey" so we have taken it upon ourselves to do a little digging and find out why. We will doing a series of 30 blog posts on why and what exactly it is fans hate about the Canucks or their fans. We are looking for a fan of each team, preferably based in that city... But not essential, to do a short interview with us via email or IM. Anyone who is interested in this please send us a message and we

2013 Winter Classic and HBO 24/7 - Leafs vs Red Wings

The NHL made it official yesterday. The Winter Classic for next year would be in Detroit at Michigan Stadium, which is more commonly known as the Big House. The Leafs would visit the Red Wings in front of over 110, 000 fans. This isn't big news as this was a poorly kept secret, the rumours had been around for nearly a month. Assuming HBO does a 24/7 series on the event, like they have in the past, it will be a very exciting month leading up to the Winter Classic. Two Original Six rivals will be

Stars in Town...Still No Goal

Tonight the Dallas Stars make a visit to the First Niagara Center. Of course with Dallas in town the famous "No Goal" from the 99 cup final must be mentioned. Brett Hull scored the game winning goal in game 6 while his foot was in the crease. Therefore should have been no goal. However the NHL did not (proven fact) review the goal. So in typical Buffalo sports heartbreaking fashion "No goal" falls in with "Wide Right" and "Music City Miracle". Anyways onto tonights big game. Dallas is comi

Shark Bait?

Tonight the Hawks are in San Jose looking to get back on track. This past week has been a tough one of sorts for the Hawks including Tuesday's loss to the Avs and a flu bug knocking a quartet of Hawks players out of practice on Wednesday (Hjalmarsson, Leddy, Stalberg and Bicks). For all the talk over the Hawk's porous defense, their offense has disappeared and has compounded matters. The Hawks have scored more than two goals just once during their current losing skid. And to make matters wors

Rumors, Thoughts, and Observations

The past couple days I have noticed a lot of things around the hockey world. A lot of small sometimes unnoticed stories are signs of things to come in my opinion. Before I begin let's all give a stick tap to Mr. Scott Gomez. It was 359 days between goals, Gomez hit twine last night against the Isles. I can finally watch a Sabres vs Habs game not saying to myself "just don't let Gomez score". Thank you Isles! Ok back to the signs. Over the past week or two a lot of small stories have come o

Oh how Swede it is!

Ever since the Canucks drafted Henrik and Daniel Sedin in the 1999 entry draft, people knew that then GM Brian Burke had drafted two kids who were one day gonna be special players in this league offensively, and that they were. In the first few years of their NHL careers, fans, media and NHL analysts across North America weren't seeing what was previously advertised. In the years that followed, while both Daniel and Henrik showed signs of being the players that they were hyped up to be, people d

Tough Schedule - Leafs Lose Second Straight

Flyers beat the Leafs 4-3PHOTO: mapleleafs.com The Maple Leafs schedule is starting to get the better of them. The team suffered its second consecutive loss after playing their third game in four nights. Things dont get better for Toronto as they have very few rest days over the next handful of games. The Leafs came out really flat in the first period and for the most part James Reimer held the Leafs in it until Hartnell batted a bouncing puck out of the air and through Reimers legs. The Leafs w

Not in Our House

Boston the big bully of the Northeast was prepared to come into the First Niagara Ceneter and run the soft Sabres out of the building. Not in Pegula's house! Cody McCormick set the tone 2 minutes in challenging Shawn Thornton to a scrap. The Sabres brought the pressure early. Christian Ehrhoff scored on a goal that I think I could have stopped. Pominville would then score on a beautiful spin o rama pass by Ville Leino. I think Leino has found his linemate in Pominville. Ville has been a n

For the Hawks, the Avalanche Continues...

Make that four losses in row on this nine game road trip and it would appear that the Hawks are in trouble as they continue their downward spiral in the Western Conference. The Hawks finished their season series with Colorado, Edmonton and Calgary with a record of 4-7-1... nothing to be proud of. To make matter worse, the Hawks will finish the road trip against some of the NHL's elite teams, San Jose, Phoenix, Nashville and New York Rangers. They wrap up the trip in Columbus (yay, maybe a "W").

Leafs Bitten By The Curse Of The Awful Goal Once Again

Gustavsson lets in a soft goal vs the JetsPHOTO: mapleleafs.com After Kessel opened the scoring to give the Leafs an early one goal lead, a familiar face came to see the Maple Leafs in their efforts against Winnipeg tonight. It was another really bad goal against due to goaltending that simply isn't up to the task. Jonas Gustavsson lets a really soft backhand from a near impossible angle get by him and the Jets would tie the game. Winnipeg would later score again to make it 2-1 and held the

Will the Avalanche Continue?

That's the questions to be answered by the Hawks tonight who are currently on a five game losing streak and have lost the first three games of the nine game road trip. The Hawks face the Colorado Avalanche who are also on a five game losing streak. Tonight one of these teams breaks their cherry and will get the "W". For the Hawks, Razor will be back in net and I've got to believe the job is now his to lose. At practice yesterday, Coach Q had the lineup blender on "max" and blended the lines quit

Habsguy26's trades 11-15

Hey guys. We're back with the next part of Trade Wars. Please vote on the above polls as we appreciate your feed back on the trades, and don't forget to comment to tell us what you think of the series! Before we get into things, lets see all of the accepted trades so far. And the latest trade.. You may as well give Pittsburgh the cup right now. This trade definitely would set up a potential Hawks-Penguins cup final. That'd be epic, wouldn't it? If Sidney Crosby returns well before the playoff

Canucks Hitting Snooze

We're just now entering what are known as 'the dog days' of the NHL season, but for the Vancouver Canucks it seems to have started much earlier this year. At first glance at the standings you may think that is just a typical Vancouverite looking for something to complain about, but when you dwell a little deeper there are some glaring things that stick out like a sore thumb, knee, groin or whatever other injury Sami Salo has been able to rack up over the years. Undoubtedly the game of the year i

A Wild Week 1/29/12-2/4/12

A Wild Week 1/29/12-2/4/12 The Wild finished up this week going 1-1-1, holding on to 8th place in the Western Conference by 2 points over Dallas. This week we saw the Wild lose a heartbreaker to the Nashville Predators, defeat the Colorado Avalanche due to a Nicklas Backstrom shutout, and drop a shootout to the Dallas Stars. On Tuesday the Wild will finish up their 3 game road trip in Columbus. That game will complete a stretch of 30 games in which the Wild played 20 on the road. While the resul

Reimer Records Second Straight Shutout

Reimer making one of his 49 saves tonight en route tohis second consecutive shut out PHOTO: mapleleafs.com James Reimer had a spectacular game tonight as he recorded 49 saves for his second shut out in as many games. In his last two starts he has stopped all of the 74 shots against and likely has taken back his position as starting goaltender for the Maple Leafs. The Leafs picked up an easy 5-0 Victory over the Ottawa Senators, who have really fallen off the map lately. Phil Kessel and Tyler Boz

Trip to the Island

Buffalo make the final trip to Long Island this season. The Isles have won both meetings this season and have won 6 of the last 7 meetings overall. For some reason the Isles just have the Sabres number. Things will be a little different this time around. Tonight will be the first time the Islanders face the red hot Ryan Miller. Also this is will be the first time the Islanders meet a healthy (minus Vanek) Sabres squad. Buffalo comes in winning 2 of 3 and getting 5 of 6 points in their 3 g

Grab the Paddles boys, time to revive the lifeless Hawks!

Tonight, we will see how the Hawks respond to a humiliating 8-4 loss last night to team 20 points beneath then in the standings when the visit the Calgary Flames in Calgary. This will be the third road game of a nine game road trip. The Hawks are sixth in the Western Conference with 65 points, one point out of fourth and five points ahead of seventh. The alarm clocks should be buzzing of the harsh reality that this team is currently not a playoff caliber team. Let me rephrase that, they can make

Wild Friday

Wild Friday 2/3/2012 Last night the Wild edged the Colorado Avalanche for a 1-0 victory. The Wild have now won two of their last three, and are holding on to eighth place in the Western Conference. They are three points in front of both the Avs and Stars, who they are coincidentally in the midst of playing consecutively. Niklas Backstrom was the unquestioned star of last night’s game, making 37 saves en route to his third shutout on the year. Mike Yeo told both Josh Harding and Niklas Backstrom

Thoughts on the Christensen-Wellman Trade

Wellman has been traded to the New York Rangers for Erik Christensen and a conditional 2013 seventh round pick. If the Wild re-sign Christensen, they won’t get the pick. Wellman was one of the Wild's first big college free-agent pickup out of UMass.  At the time there was a lot of excitement in his acquisition, but he has fallen in the depth chart of the Wild’s forwards.  Thus Flecher has kept his word that he would not trade away any of the top prospects in the system.   Christensen, 28, will f
