4th in a row... Hawks lose 8-4 in Edmonton...UGH

Hey Stan, the Hawks need to fill their holes now. They are falling fast in the West after another embarrassing loss in Edmonton. The Crow played one of his worst games of the season, blowing a 2-0 second period lead and getting pulled in the third. The Crow looked like a fish out of water in his crease all night and may now take a seat behind Razor, who is expected to get an opportunity to win the starting job for the stretch run. As ugly as it was, the status of the team is pretty much the same

How Good Is Cody Franson And What Is He Worth?

Cody Franson #4 - Toronto Maple LeafsPHOTO: mapleleafs.com When the Leafs traded Slaney and Lebda for Franson and Lombardi everyone thought the key to the deal was Franson. The Leafs would take on the extra salary from Lombardi but in exchange Nashville had to give up a good young defenseman. Cody Franson, who is 24 years old, had 29 points in 80 regular season games, and six points in 12 playoff games last season. The Leafs weren't just getting a prospect in return, but an NHL ready defenseman

Drillin' For Oil!

Tonight the Mighty Blackhawks will play game two of their nine game road trip, facing the Edmonton Oilers in their final meeting of the season. The Oilers lead the season series, three games to one. The Hawks will be looking to end many bad streaks tonight; a three game losing streak and trying to keep pace with division leading Detroit Dead Wings, and the Hawks will also try to avoid the longest road losing streak in more than eight years as Tuesday's loss to the Canuckleheads was the Hawks fif

Optimus Reim is Back! Leafs beat Penguins 1-0!

James Reimer celebrates after a shutout victory overthe Pittsburgh Penguins PHOTO: mapleleafs.com After a humiliating defeat to the Penguins two nights ago, where the Leafs blew a three-goal lead in half a period, the Leafs started James Reimer last night. The game was rather dull compared to Tuesday night, but there were more than a few good points to take from it. The most important being that the Leafs jumped to 7th spot in the East with 58 points. Also, Clarke MacArthur, who has seen his rol

The accepted trades are as follows. The Vancouver Canucks trade Robert Luongo To the Florida Panthers for Clemmenson, Rasmus Bengtsson, Nick Bjugstad and Florida's first round pick in 2012 The Buffalo Sabres trade: Paul Gaustad, Patrick Kaleta, Andrej Sekera and a 2012 2nd round pick to the Chica

Home Sweet Home

Buffalo is back at home tonight at the First Niagara Center for the first time since January 13th a 3-2 win against the Leafs. The opponent tonight are the 1st place New York Rangers. They are coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to NJ last night. The last time the Sabres lost in regulation at home was to these very New York Rangers on December 10th. Since then they have put a pretty good home streak together. Marty Biron played last night in NJ, therefore Henrik Lundqvist will be between the pip

Goose+Leino=2!

Two in a row! First two game winning streak since November 9th! Determination is the word that can best describe this game. Habs took the early 1-0 lead on a mistake by Matt Eliis that let Max Pacioretty walk in alone and bury his own rebound. From that point on it was all Sabres. Price stood on his head until something crazy happened. Ville Leino came to play. How ya doin Leino?....http://video.nhl.com...id=35&id=154067. As NHL.com called it Ville String. Leafs Lose To The Penguins In A Very Entertaining Game

Grabovski has been red-hot for the Leafs in January, but despite his efforts the Leafs lose in Pittsburgh PHOTO: mapleleafs.com The title could also be "Leafs blow a three-goal lead with half a period to go", either way works. The Leafs started off with all the energy tonight as the Penguins were flat for probably 55 of the 65 (overtime included) minutes of play. Tyler Bozak scores a goal just a few minutes into the game which is disallowed by the referee because he deemed goaltender interference

Altered Deal

Due to the recent news that Kulikov will be on the IR for 6-8 weeks with knee surgery that took place on Monday, hf101 and myself have agreed on the editing the Vancouver / Florida trade. Accepted trade Vancouver trades Roberto Luongo to Florida for Clemmenson, Rasmus Bengtsson, Nick Bjugstad, and Florida's 2012 first round pick.

Opening Night Lineup

Believe it or not the Sabres are fielding their opening night lineup for the first time since the October 15th contest (4th game of the year) against Pittsburgh. The only players that will be missing from the lineup will be Jochen Hecht and Brayden McNabb. Things should get interesting when McNabb is ready to go tomorrow. Gragnani and McCormick will be the healthy scratches tonight. Tonight the Sabres will visit the Bell Centre in an effort to begin the second half push and win back to back

Thoughts on the All-Star Weekend

In the past, I’ve followed and commented on a number of threads on this site regarding bloggers’ thoughts on the All-Star Game and the weekend festivities. The sentiment I’m finding is that the event needs to be rescheduled, reworked, combined with the Winter Classic, or just plain cancelled entirely. It seems that the arguments bloggers have made for the change is the lack of entertainment value. I kept this in mind as I watched the festivities all weekend long and I have to disagree with eve

Is it time to get rid of the All-Star weekend?

So we all watch the All-Star weekend, but if you're like me, chances are you walk away from it asking yourself why you wasted all that time. I say that to myself year after year and yet I still get sucked into watching everything, from the fantasy draft all the way to the All-Star game, which looks like a game of gym hockey sometimes. I'm not completely ripping the All-Star weekend, but someone definitely needs to cut the fat. FANTASY DRAFT The All-Star fantasy draft was a decent idea, but the

Sunday Trade Rumors

With the NHL All-Star weekend happening the NHL GM’s are having a little bit of down time to plan out there next big move. But now the GM’s only have a little over a month until that bug busy day. Today I have read and talked to a few people and gathered up a bunch of trade rumors. The Ottawa Sun has reported that Senators Erik Karlsson’s agent will be talking with Senators GM on possible trades. Ottawa Sun didn’t report much more but I don’t really think that the Sens will give up a key guy on

NHL Trade Rumors

Hey guys, I know I have not been posting in a while but I was giving a writing job on the5hole.com. I will write for this site and the5hole. But since we are getting closer to the trade deadline I thought i'd post on what I am hearing. Right now I am getting some info from one of my source's and he is telling me that Nashville's Ryan Suter will not re-sign by the deadline. So the Predators management will have to decide if they’ll retain him in hopes of re-signing him prior to July 1st, or trade

Habsguy26's trades 6-10

Hey guys, this is Habsguy here back with the third installment of Trade Wars. If you haven't been reading this series, go to the blogs section and check it out. Before we get started, how did you guys like the All Star Draft? I was there actually, and the whole crowd was really into it. The boo's were louder in person than they were on T.V though when Lupul drafted Kessel. As Habs fan it was great to see. A moment that made me laugh hysterically was when Chara drafted Carey Price, Chara went to

All Star Break Player Grades

Couple things I want to hit on before I start the grading. First Tim "Teeth" Kennedy is now on his 3rd team since being cut by Buffalo. If he has not fired his agent after the offseason disaster with Buffalo he needs too. Kennedy had a spot carved out in the Sabres lineup and had a decent rookie season. Best of luck to Teeth. Last the hockeybuzz rumor involving Derek Roy and Paul Stastny. I'll play along even though it came from EK. I could see this deal working for both teams, the Sabres

A Look at the Eastern Conference Halfway Through

Now it’s time to revisit my predictions for the Eastern Conference. Now that the standings have settled out after the Red Wings’ forfeit of last night’s game to the Habs. Same as the Western Conference, I singled out a couple teams for comment back in October. New York Rangers: After making several key moves in the offseason, I figured on the Blueshirts making a big splash in the standings. As long as Marc Staal could get back from injury, Gaborik would stay away from injury and Brad Richard

John-Michael Liles re-signs for 4 years in Toronto

Liles defending against the CapitalsPHOTO: mapleleafs.com John-Michael Liles signed a deal with the Maple Leafs where he would make 3.875M per year for the next four seasons. Shortly after hearing the news today, I learned something new. Apparently 30 is the new 50 and somehow I never noticed. There's a lot of backlash with Leafs fans about signing Liles to a four-year extension. Liles is 31 years old and so when his contract ends he will be 35. Apparently that's far too old for many Leafs fans

A Look at the Western Conference Halfway Through

Back in October, I posted a prediction of how the Western Conference standings would look come Playoff time. I added some notes on a few teams in particular. Detroit Red Wings: The addition of Ian White from San Jose was to be a huge gift in replacing Brian Rafalski. The Wings success would also hinge upon Valtteri Filppula, Jiri Hudler, and Johan Franzen elevating their games. Ty Conklin was to be the ideal choice for backup goaltender. As long as everyone stays healthy, they’d do well. San Jos

MacArthur Trade? - Leafs Win Again Heading Into All-Star Weekend

MacArthur celebrates after scoring on MontoyaPHOTO: mapleleafs.com After a tough couple of weeks and some brief time on the fourth line last game, Clarke MacArthur was told by coach Ron Wilson that if he moved his feet and played hard he would be rewarded. After the Islanders scored two goals through the first 30 minutes of the game, Wilson put MacArthur back on a line with Nikolai Kulemin and Mikhail Grabovski. MacArthur would score late in the second period to cut the Islanders lead in half be
