Miller Ends Streak in Newark

Where has that Ryan Miller been all season? He stole 2 points for the Sabres tonight in NJ. He even out dueled future hall of famer Marty Broudeur in the shootout. Kovi scored for NJ and Pominville and Gerbe were the shootout goal scorers for Buffalo. 12 Game road losing streak is over. With Ehrhoff and Regher back Miller looked more confident in his crease. I don't think that is a coincidence. Miller needed his team to pull that W out for him and I'm happy for him. I'm also happy for Pa

The Wild are on NBCSports Tonight

If they play like they did against Dallas at home in Colorado this game might be entertaining.  On Saturday night, Darroll Powe decided he had enough of Steve Ott who slashed Jared Spurgeon, then attempted to decapitate Clutterbuck in a scrum.  Powe and Ott  fought 12 seconds after they each came out of the penalty box for roughing.   Ott took down Powe and then did the unthinkable and punched him in the face while on the ice.  The Wild bench absolutely exploded, and in 3:17 seconds, so did the

Animal Instinct Needed!

Tonight's game against Nashville Predators is the last one before the All-Star break, and for the Hawks, Shooter and Captain Marvel are out. The Hawks lost Saturday 5-2 to the Preds and appeared to have tired legs in that game (they arrived at their hotel at 3am). However, this is hockey and there are no excuses for the lack of effort the Hawks displayed Saturday night. The Preds are one of the hottest teams in the NHL right now after winning their third-straight game Monday night. They've now

Last Stop Before the All Star Break

Tonight the Sabres will invade Newark trying to pick up a W on this awful road trip. I personally have turned my attention to watching prospects more instead of doing personal scouting of other teams potential trade bait. With the Sabres now being in 28th place in the NHL they are in line for a lottery pick. I have my eye on Nail Yakupov and Mikhail Grigorenko. A top 3 pick could be just what the Sabres need. It also does not involve blowing up your team. However there's still 34 games lef

The New Face of the NHL

Expanding the game of hockey has been a high priority of the NHL for many years and everyone knows the only way to do this is to have recognizable household name stars With the emergence of Crosby and Ovechkin it appeared the NHL was headed in the right direction and gaining more popularity than ever. But now with Crosby's career seemingly coming to an end and Ovechkin falling off the face of the Earth, the NHL is struggling to find the new faces to put to the NHL name. Here is my list of stars

One Down, One To Go - Leafs Beat Islanders 3-0

Gustavsson makes 25 saves for his fourth career shutoutPHOTO: mapleleafs.com The Toronto Maple Leafs have only won one game of their last five, and their playoff aspirations were slowly slipping away. Monday night marked the first of their last two games before the all star break, a home at home series with the New York Islanders. The Leafs came out with lost of speed and energy in the first period, something that has been lacking in recent games. Matthew Lombardi got the Leafs to a 1-0 lead in

GM for the Trade Deadline

The Sabres have lost 5 in a row and 11 straight on the road. They just finished the first leg of the nightmare road trip that ended in 0 points in 4 games. They were outscored 19-5, the 2nd leg features a stop in Newark tomorrow and Montreal after the All-Star Break. With any point tonight by Carolina the Sabres will hold sole possession of the Eastern Coference basement. They have gone from contender or lottery pick in a matter of 6 months. A large fall from grace. I don't want to dwell on

Leafs lack urgency against the Canadiens

Montreal wins in Kaberle's return to TorontoPHOTO: mapleleafs.com Leafs playoff hopes here high approaching the puck drop at the ACC on Saturday night. Both the New Jersey Devils and the Ottawa Senators lost their respective games in regulation earlier today. The bad news is that the Panthers play the Jets. Going into tonight Winnipeg sits two points behind the Leafs and the Panthers are one point ahead. A win for the Leafs tonight will put them back into the top eight. If the Panthers win they

Zidlicky Scratched. Will There be a Trade Soon?

Yesterday forwards Matt Kassian, Jed Ortmeyer, Chad Rau and defenseman Nate Prosser came up from Houston for the Wild, and forwards Casey Wellman and David McIntyre were sent down. Prosser will take Zidlicky’s roster spot in tonight’s Dallas vs Wild game, while Zidlicky sits and watches from above. I think the writing is on the wall. Zidlicky will still need to sign his NTC but if he wants to play it looks as if it could soon be for another organization. Zidlicky has played the past two gam

Friday Night is Alright for Hockey!

Hello Blackhawk fans. Tonight, at the Madhouse on Madison the Blackhawks take on the ex-Hawks know as the Florida Panthers. The Panthers, last played on Wednesday night blowing a 3-1 third period lead in Colorado and lost in overtime 4-3 to the Avs. The Panthers are now 11-0-4 when leading after two periods. The Panthers have received a bit of good news as former Blackhawk, Jack Skille will be back in the lineup as he’s been out since December 16th with a shoulder injury. The Panthers have sorel

Overtime for the Kings

M45V8CEE3YKZ The Kings now have an 8-1-6 record under Darryl Sutter. Is this hockey or soccer? The number of overtime games of late has been astounding — 10 of the last 16 games — and the Kings now have 10 overtime/shootout losses, tied for Florida for most in the NHL this season. That’s what makes the Kings a difficult team to get a handle on. They have 22 points in their 15 games under Sutter, which is a very good ratio, but they’ve had outright wins in only eight of 15 games. A series of shoo

Minnesota Wild Dominated by the Toronto Maple Leafs

Joey Crabb celebrates after scoring a high-lightreel goal in the first period PHOTO: mapleleafs.com The Leafs brush off a tough three game losing skid as they beat the Wild 4-1. Nazem Kadri scored early as he spin around and smacked the puck out of the air and into the back of the net just 50 seconds into the opening frame. Joey Crabb would also score in the first for a two goal lead. Phil Kessel and Mikhail Grabovski would also score for Toronto. Jonas Gustavsson didn't have much work, b

HF101's Trades 1-5

The first order of business is to discuss the trades proprosed to me by Habsguy26. As the GM for the Western Conference I chose to accept only one of the proposed offers and then I proposed 5 new trades for the GM of the East. You as viewers are asked to give your opinions of our trades and trade proposals that you like, dislike or what maybe you would chose to do differently. One other rule we agreed upon was that if there was a player with an injury today he would still considered fair tra

You Really Want to Know What's Wrong?

After another terrible road showing in Chicago and another blow out thist time 6-2, all I keep hearing is, whats wrong with the Sabres? I have 3 answers for you: poor hockey IQ, soft, and no passion. Last night I couldn't help but first scream at Ville Leino (I know he can't hear me) for his drop pass to nobody and then laugh continously throughout the rest of the game at what was occuring. Want to see what the Sabres pay Leino 4.5 million dollars for? Take a gander...http://video.nhl.com/vid

The Hawks' Rooks Remain Hawt!

The Blackhawks routed the Buffalo Sabres, who are in a complete tailspin, 6-2 last night at the Madhouse on Madison. With a route like that, you would have thought that one Hawks' player would be a lock to be on the score sheet. I am talking about Kaner. Once again, Kaner did not score last night. Kane has just ten goals on the year, and has only found the back of the net three times in the last 29 games. He does however, have 29 assists on the season and is just struggling to score. Kane is goi

Stop the Herd!

Tonight the beloved Blackhawks take on the Buffalo Sabres at the Madhouse on Madison. This past weekend the Hawks proved to themselves that they can skate with the Big Boys in the Western Conference (losing to the Hot Wings 3-2 SO and beating the Sharks 4-3) although their power play was 0-6. Tonight's game appears to be a "trap" game for the Hawks as the Sabres have been slumping of late and have lost 11 of their last 14 games. So with that said, it is important tonight for the Hawks not to pla

Why is Rosehill dressed? - Refs help Sens to a 3-2 win over the Leafs

Rosehill err... Mike Brown fightingPHOTO: mapleleafs.com I'm still very angry about the game, so this recap will have quite a bit of flare... Just a heads up.The Senators played last night and have to come into Toronto to play the Leafs. They obviously must be tired. The Leafs need to take advantage of that. They started off strong but as the third period came around the Leafs were exhausted. Why? Because Jay Rosehill gets to play. So that he can watch Mike Brown and Dion Phaneuf fight. That's s

The Captain-less must Play ON

Tonight the captain-less Wild will take on the captain-less Flyers in Philadelphia, game time 7:00 EST.  The Flyers have adjusted their style of play with success without Pronger.  The Wild on the otherhand are a team that lacks offense and without their all star Mikko Koivo and  they will need to find a way to create scoring by committee . Which reminds me one of my favorite scenes  from “Finding Nemo” where Dora tells the netted school of fish to “just keep swimmng” “just keep swimming” “just

Hello everyone, welcome to the first installment of Trade Wars: Habsguy26 vs HF101! As for the rules, they will be very similar to Travis and Richard's rules. Concussion Prevention: 10 Questions Every Player Should Ask Themselves

Every player should ask themselves these ten questions when on the ice. Being aware of your surroundings can help you prevent a concussion. So here, in no apparent order, are the questions: Is Matt Cooke on the ice? - Is Chara angling me into the ... ? (CRASH) ... Oh God - Has Chris Neil sucker-punched you in the face yet? (Watch him pretend he got hit in the face too... what a tool) - Did you recently take part in the Sports Illustrated "Most Over-rated NHL player" poll and are Dion Pha

Hockeytown vs Hockey Heaven

I love when I get the chance to watch the Red Wings play, so I am looking forward to tonights game. The Wings are a well oiled machine and give their opponents a lesson in puck control every night. Also Pavel Datsyuk is one of my favorite players in the league to watch. He plays a complete game in all areas of the ice. He has nasty hands and excellent vision, he doesn't get all the same run that Ovechkin, Stamkos, and Malkin get, but he is just as good if not better. Tonight starts the week
