There is a Commitment Now

There is a commitment now to winning for the Minnesota Wild, these deals made today to Zach Parise and Ryan Suter are huge. In twin deals each Parise and Suter will make $12 million the next two seasons, $11 million the year after that, five years of $9 million, then $8 million, $6 million, $2 million, $1 million and $1 million the last five years. This includes $10 million signing bonuses the first two years, meaning $2 million in-season salaries. This commitment is more than about the money b

Did you know---It’s MN HS Tournament Time

Did you know that boys ice hockey is the most popular HS sport in the State of Minnesota. Through cooperative team arrangements 256 schools field sanctioned varsity teams competing in the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL). Our version of March madness began in 1945 with a single eight team tournament that took place every year through the year 1991, now the tournament consists of sixteen teams competing in two classes A and AA. Did you know that The Minnesota State High School Hockey

Thoughts on the Christensen-Wellman Trade

Wellman has been traded to the New York Rangers for Erik Christensen and a conditional 2013 seventh round pick. If the Wild re-sign Christensen, they won’t get the pick. Wellman was one of the Wild's first big college free-agent pickup out of UMass.  At the time there was a lot of excitement in his acquisition, but he has fallen in the depth chart of the Wild’s forwards.  Thus Flecher has kept his word that he would not trade away any of the top prospects in the system.   Christensen, 28, will f

The Wild are on NBCSports Tonight

If they play like they did against Dallas at home in Colorado this game might be entertaining.  On Saturday night, Darroll Powe decided he had enough of Steve Ott who slashed Jared Spurgeon, then attempted to decapitate Clutterbuck in a scrum.  Powe and Ott  fought 12 seconds after they each came out of the penalty box for roughing.   Ott took down Powe and then did the unthinkable and punched him in the face while on the ice.  The Wild bench absolutely exploded, and in 3:17 seconds, so did the

Zidlicky Scratched. Will There be a Trade Soon?

Yesterday forwards Matt Kassian, Jed Ortmeyer, Chad Rau and defenseman Nate Prosser came up from Houston for the Wild, and forwards Casey Wellman and David McIntyre were sent down. Prosser will take Zidlicky’s roster spot in tonight’s Dallas vs Wild game, while Zidlicky sits and watches from above. I think the writing is on the wall. Zidlicky will still need to sign his NTC but if he wants to play it looks as if it could soon be for another organization. Zidlicky has played the past two gam

The Captain-less must Play ON

Tonight the captain-less Wild will take on the captain-less Flyers in Philadelphia, game time 7:00 EST.  The Flyers have adjusted their style of play with success without Pronger.  The Wild on the otherhand are a team that lacks offense and without their all star Mikko Koivo and  they will need to find a way to create scoring by committee . Which reminds me one of my favorite scenes  from “Finding Nemo” where Dora tells the netted school of fish to “just keep swimmng” “just keep swimming” “just

Survival Without Koivo

Don’t think about making the playoffs, not this year at least.  The exciting run into December has passed.  It was a short ride, the Wild were on top of the Western Conference on December 14 and the excitement was grand.  However with an Avalanche win tonight the Wild will fall from playoff contention.  Plan for next year Mr. Fletcher. Mikko Koivo’s separated shoulder put a stake in all Wild hope of making the playoffs this season. Koivo could miss between 4 and 6 weeks.  Horrible news for the t

Has the Message Been Sent?

Marco Scandella was sent to Houston, Colton Gillies sent to Columbus via waver acquisition. Zanon to be benched from tonight’s lineup replaced by Lundin. Hackett will be the back-up in place of Backstrom who is said to be still ill. This list could be larger, there were more players in need of a wake-up call after the game with the Blackhawks on Thursday. So are these moves enough? Has the team heard the message that Yeo is stating? “It’s not acceptable to play one good game and then not p

UPDATE: Will Colton Gillies clear Waivers?

UPDATE: Colton Gilies was claimed by the Columbus Blue Jackets. -------Well, well, what a surprise. Claimed by the worst team in the league and he will now play under former Wild coach Todd Richards. Was Gillies not even worth a draft pick in a trade? _____________________________________________________________________________________ Colton Gillies was put on waivers this morning. If he clears at 12:00 EST Saturday, he will be reassigned to AHL Houston. Money isn’t the issue Gillies is in

Wild @ Blackhawks Preview

Thursday, Jan 12, 2012 8:30PM EST at the United Center in Chicago Both Chicago and Minnesota are coming off much-needed victories on Tuesday. Minnesota (22-15-6), currently seventh in the West, ended a 1-8-3 slump with a 5-4 shootout win over San Jose on Tuesday. And the Blackhawks (25-13-5), though, followed that run by losing four straight before a 5-2 win over Columbus on Tuesday, pulling into a tie for the Central Division lead with surging St. Louis. Something has Got to Change

The Wild are now winless in its past seven on the road (0-6-1), with only five goals in that stretch. It's now 1-8-3 (five out of a possible 24 points) in its past 12 overall. They have gone from first in the NHL three weeks ago to seventh place in the West. Mike Yeo said after the Vancouver shutout that the timing of it couldn't be better as the team took a couple of days to regroup in Banff, but nothing has changed. The Wild only could put pressure on Kiprusoff in the first eight and final

Wild @ Flames Preview

Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 10pm EST at Scotiabank Saddledome After a team-best start to the season, the Minnesota Wild have fallen from first in the NHL to sixth in the Western Conference. Colorado and Los Angeles are right on their heels just one point behind the Wild. To put this free fall by the Wild into perspective, they were firmly planted at the top of the NHL on December 11, winners of seven straight, five points ahead of second-place Blackhawks in the West and even four points ahead

A Six Pack of Wild Prospects

As an avid fan of the Minnesota Wild I am excited for their future. Six promising Wild prospects competed in the World Junior Championships. Minnesota Wild’s 2010’s sixth round pick Johan Gustafsson took home the gold with a 17 save shutout over team Russia last night ending a 31 year drought for team Sweden. Teammates Jonas Brodin , a gifted-skating defenseman who played against the opposition's top lines was drafted 10th overall last June, and team Sweden’s captain, Johan Larsson, Minnesota
