Zidlicky Scratched. Will There be a Trade Soon?
Yesterday forwards Matt Kassian, Jed Ortmeyer, Chad Rau and defenseman Nate Prosser came up from Houston for the Wild, and forwards Casey Wellman and David McIntyre were sent down. Prosser will take Zidlicky’s roster spot in tonight’s Dallas vs Wild game, while Zidlicky sits and watches from above. I think the writing is on the wall. Zidlicky will still need to sign his NTC but if he wants to play it looks as if it could soon be for another organization. Zidlicky has played the past two games horribly. It is one thing not to score but he has been a defensive liability. He turns 35 on Feb. 3 and makes $4 million next season. He has zero goals, and at one time he was a defenseman with an elite shot and elite play-making skills. The Wild have been 2-10-4 since he returned to the line-up from injury.
Minnesota native, Chad Rau from Eden Prairie High School makes his debut today for the Wild. Rau graduated from Colorado college and then he signed two seasons ago with the Aeros. Rau projects to be a serviceable third line winger in the NHL. Hopefully he will get to play on the second line, with maybe some power play time tonight. It just doesn't make much sense to bring him up with Ortmeyer and then stick them both on the fourth line.
Josh Harding will be in net tonight. It has been Hockey Day in Minnesota today with lots of High School and College games. Hockey Day in Minnesota has become symbolic of the love this state has for the sport. Let us finish this great day off with a huge win for the Wild.
Come on Guys Lets get Wild
