Edmonton in Panic Mode

blog-0626402001417063024.pngAfter another week of loses in Edmonton, which featured a 7-1 drubbing at home at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks, the Oilers are in full panic mode. The fans are irate, management is quiet, and trade winds are blowing. Here is a couple of trade scenario’s that have surfaced over the past few days.

  • The Edmonton Oilers are in trouble, big time trouble. It seems as though the Oilers are bound and determined to make a move in the next few days. Times in Edmonton are at an all time low. Amongst all the rumors is the fact that Craig MacTavish, and coach Dallas Eakins are definitely on the hot seat. TSN’s Aaron Ward is reporting that a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets may be in the works. The move would have David Perron heading to the Blue Jackets. In return Artem Anisimov would be heading to Edmonton. There is also a strong possibility other smaller pieces would be involved in this move. I think this trade talk has weight, and is a real possibility.
  • Another trade rumbling in Edmonton is with the St. Louis Blues. This one I am a little skeptical of. Edmonton sends Jordan Eberle to the St. Louis Blues for center Patrik Berglund. Edmonton Journalist Jim Matheson is reporting that St. Louis has an abundance of centers, and is willing to deal Berglund. He is a 26-year-old that is signed until 2016-2017. His salary cap hit is only 3.7 million, and has a limited no trade clause that kicks in on July 1st. If the Blues wanted to deal him they would have to do it this year. I really don’t see the Oilers pulling off a knee jerk reaction trade. If they were going to do that they would have traded Eberle last season. Berglund is a quality center, but I am not sure he would be worth giving up Eberle. Berglund is being played as a checking center this year, and only has two goals in twenty-one games, but his upside potential is not enough to give up Eberle.
