      2018-19 Manitoba Bisons/USports Thread
      NCAA

Aug 19: TWO DAYS UNTIL PUCK DROP     On Tuesday the Bisons will start their exhibition schedule against the Manchester Storm. When I think of Manchester I think of the greatest continuous stretch of bands that one city has ever produced. Their hockey history is not quite so accomplished, so far anyhow.   Although Tuesday's game will be Manchester's first of the season, there were 8 games this weekend, and 4 games last weekend. All of those games featured an EIHL team facing a team from elsewhere in Europe, except for a pair of games between Nottingham and Cardiff.   The stories being generated are about ticket sales and meeting the players. Hopefully there will be more pre-game news and access to stats. Last year all of the EIHL teams had loads pf pictures but nothing on stats/rosters/summaries.   Here's the links and a couple of videos.   Links:

      Aug 24 U.Q.T.R. at Gothiques d'Amiens
      Aug 25 U.Q.T.R. at Ducs d'Angers
      Aug 26 U.Q.T.R. at Jokers de Cergy-Pontoise
Aug 29 U.Q.T.R. at TBA (France)   The Jokers are hosting the tournament and they are a 2nd tier French team. The other two teams in the round-robin tournament are 1st tier French teams. Last time over there UQTR were in the Napoleon Cup, hosted by the Goths.   Links:

Shayne Gostisbehere, not Ivan Provorov, cracks NHL Network's top 20 active defensemen Hidden Content Give reaction or reply to this topic to see the hidden content.   Hidden Content Give reaction or reply to this topic to see the hidden content.   17.  Hidden Content Give reaction or reply to this topic to see the hidden content. , Philadelphia Flyers Gostisbehere had 65 points last season (26 more than in 2016-17), including an NHL career-high 52 assists. He finished fourth in points among NHL defensemen, his 33 power-play points tops at the position. His plus-10 rating was his best since joining the Flyers full-time in 2015-16. The 25-year-old played an NHL career-high 21:27 per game last season, up from 19:36 in 2016-17. He has increased his hits and blocked shots totals in each of the past two seasons.   "He really came into his own last year. This kid is dynamic, and for me, I think there are some defensive liabilities, but because how offensive the game has become and defensemen being part of that offense, Gostisbehere can do it all. He's shifty and can make a pass in the blink of an eye for a great scoring chance."   #noloveforprovocop

Fantastic job with the numbers😀!! I sort of did my own thing from 2000 thru 2010 for 4 teams--would've taken me 8 hours to post it so I didn't. Question--do you think the total amount of games played for each draft pick be included if it's a significant number--say above 800? For example, Chicago had 2 players with about 1000(1004 and 995) total games played and 3 players with approx 800(791, 822, 827) total games played that were drafted between 2000 and 2010. I don't know how one would work that into the equation for determining draft success, though. And that was quite a run for CBH so the comparison might be a bit unfair.

Ottawa Senators need to be good this season

Welcome to the forum, I was thinking of posting why the Sens need to go all in this year, and how they really might not be that bad. Not a playoff team but with a bit of puck luck, maybe get away from losing the first pick in the draft to Colorado.  I understand why they didn't trade Karlsson before the year, they need to win some games and stack up some points before dealing him at the deadline. And Stone/Duchene have the team over the barrel as UFAs as well at the end of the year. And goalie Anderson is disinterested and wants out. All four need to perform well early in the year and be dealt at the deadline for maximum returns.   What they do have is kids up the wazoo who know how to play. Brady Tkachuk is a lot like his brother but a better goal scorer, a lot of people see him as another Marchand. Filip Chlapik could be a calder candidate as a playmaker center if things break right. Massive Logan Brown, lighting fast Formenton and all around talented Colin White all are capable of top nine roles if gven the chance.   On defense,a lock for top four puck moving minutes is the talented Thomas Chaput,  man mountain Ben Harpur plays with a snarl and should be a steady bottom paring guy for years, Julius Bergmann is hoping a change of organization will give him new life and puck mover Christian Jaros will all be given chances to prove they have what it takes. They team with arguably the best defesenman in the game in Karlsson and the underrated but enormously talented Cody Ceci..     So lots of kids, veteran UFAs who need to perform well for their next deal, believe me I am not saying they are anywhere near a playoff team but there is a reason for hope. Kinda.     What kills the team IMHO is guys like Bobby Ryan who is a salary cap eater, Gaborik just playing out the string, Boedker who imitates an NHLer about every three games. Too many overpriced underperforming disinterested vets.     There should be enough here to surprise some teams and at least get them to somewhere around 7th or 8th from the bottom. Seriously, I know how messed up these guys are but the kids are deep and talented as any group in the game and mixed with vets hungry for a next contract they may not be as bad as a lot of people are predicting.

There is no reason to expect anything other than last place in the league. They will be horrible.

HI there, with the new NHL season around the corner I decided to write a piece on the Sens upcoming season and why they have no room for error. If you have the time to give it a read it would be greatly appreciated. https://lastwordonhockey.com/2018/08/18/no-room-for-error-in-ottawa-senators-2018-19-season/
