  1. Past hour
  2. And they missed the playoffs that season, but haven't missed since and have a Cup Final appearance...
  3. I honestly don't, didn't, and won't have K'Andre Miller on my "foundational" board. The problem this team has that is far more crippling than hindsight picks is moves like two roster players, 1st, 2 2nds, and a 7th for a bottom four defenceman then paid as a top paid long term. Stop doing those sorts of things and do more of 1st, 2 2nds, roster player and cap hit for a middle pair defenceman and then flip the roster player for another 1st. They obviously need to draft better, but hindsight is always 20/20 and often ignores that many other GMs also "made the wrong pick." I mean, Edmonton took Puljujarvi 4th.
  4. There's the Kings push back I was expecting. -The Oilers were loose on coverage on several of those goals, though the Kempe goal where he batted the puck out of the air was just a great play on his part. -A couple of LA goals, including the Kopitar OT winner, looked a lot like set plays. Well done. -Nobody is perfect, and the defense will make mistakes, but Skinner didn't bail them out on any of their mistakes, while Talbot made a few saves on 5-alarm chances. -The Kings played their A-game, the Oilers played their C, and it still went to OT.
  5. Today
  6. yup, Bruins could have had DeBrusk, Barzal AND Konecny in one draft...
  7. They should've done that last summer when that was the offer for Laughton.
  8. Yes, this team's ineffective first round drafting has been crippling. Brent Flahr and company need to produce some winners. @flyerdog pointed out the consecutive year disaster for the folks who should be foundational at this stage.
  9. Hey Toronto, thanks for Rask, and thanks for passing on Sway.... Either way, i just puked a lil.
  10. 7.5 to 1 odds right now for Vegas to win it all, same as Edmonton. Leading favorite now is Carolina at 4.25 to 1, with FLA and NYR close behind.
  11. I guess I look at it this way. Let Yurov sign in the KHL next season. There isn't any room for him on the current roster thanks to giving guys like Freddy Gadreau and Marcus Johansson multi-year extensions. This team still has to prove it can get past the first round. I highly doubt the addition of one Russian center is going to be the catalyst that propels this team to the second round (or further) of the Playoffs. The core of the team is basically the same as the last two seasons. So which team is going to show up? Glass half-full says Spurgeon comes back and plays to his normal level of production, Faber doesn't have a sophomore slump, Kaprizov doesn't get off to his normal slow start, the team stays healthy, Boldy becomes more consistent, the goaltending improves, and Khusnutdinov, Ohgren and Wallstedt have meaningful production. Glass half-empty says Spurgeon isn't the same after his surgeries, Faber has a sophomore slump, Kaprizov gets off to a slow start, the team continues down the injury path, Boldy is still inconsistent, the goaltending isn't improved, and the rookies are ineffective. Plus there is all this nonsense being tossed around about trading Rossi. To what end? They finally develop a center who is probably going to come in top five in the Calder voting and they want to trade him the first chance they get.
  12. Charlie O'Connor's best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this fan who's going with this girl who asked two randos who thought the Wild might have considered offering Rossi for Gauthier three months ago. You're right. I guess it's pretty serious.
  13. Who was the moron who took Provorov over Rantanen? That 2015 draft is actually a great example of the perils of drafting. The Bruins had picks 13, 14, 15 and picked those right before Barzal and Connor. They got DeBrusk out of those picks. All the wailing and gnashing of teeth over JVR's UNH days and they were gonna go Makar over a Canadian centre who they could put on the roster immediately? The amazing thing is that people actually believe Clarke's Thursday afternoon quarterbacking on the issue.
  14. Funny how Clarke never mentioned this until years later when Makar was a star. Clarke wanted a smaller offensive defenceman over a 200 foot WHL centre? I call bs.
  15. Not saying he certainly would plus I th8nk you could get him for much less. But coulda shoulda woulda they have it covered. At this point they need to hope the money was well invested. Who knows Ivan could come in with a whole offseason to work and train in Philly and be lights out a steal. Or they let him finish out his contract and the year Michkov comes over bring Bob the Prodigal son back to lead the to the Cup and 37-39 whatever age he would be then...he only has 2 more left on his deal he signed with the Jackets. Stranger things have happened
  16. or....maybe out there in the multiverse the Flyers have won 3 of the last 5 Cups
  17. Seems odd, indeed. Could be that someone is feeding him that information? The 2021 salary cap was 900 million rubles ($12.8M) https://fullpresshockey.com/2021/10/25/khl-team-salary-payroll-revealed/ Top players in 2022 https://www.markerzone.com/news/index.php?no=131738 1. 90 million rubles ($1.5 million USD) Maxim Shalunov (Lokomotiv) This is all on page 1 of google results. Not sure where O'Connor is getting his information...
  18. @radoran I wonder why Charlie keeps saying what he is then? He wrote an article about the situation on his discord and recorded a second pod saying the exact thing again. odd.
  19. @OccamsRazor It's not outrageous to think Stolarz will be better for the same money. He could. Who knows what the Flyers player will do. He could totally **** the bed or he could become Russian Tim Thomas, or something in the middle. With 2 first round draft picks in 2025 the 2024/25 season seems like a logical time to try the great unknown out. If it goes poorly the team gets a higher draft pick with their native pick. The contract is for two years, if Fedotov stinks It's over before cap space is an issue. I don't think this signing signals buffoonery on the part of the GM.
  20. Book it, Vegas are the 2024 back-to-back Stanley Cup champions. They have the best centerline of the league (I mean they can have a 30-goal 60-point scorer to center their fourth line...), their top-4 defencemen are elite, they can have the luxury to scratch a guy that has three rings, their bottom-6 can be part of a top-6 everywhere else. They have complete versatile players than can adapt and play in all situations. It's the first time of the season that the Golden Knights have a full roster including their new aquisitions, and it's scary. Hanifin and Hertl are perfect fits. The only question mark remains the goaltending but this relative uncertainty is perfectly handled by the best D corps in the League. That being said, it's a series of details so far. Both teams are really close but DeBoer is completely outcoached by Cassidy and his defensive system consisting in clogging the slot and push forwards to attack from the outside. The Stars just can't handle and they are struggling like hell to get significant scoring chances from close. I'm not pissed about the Stars being down 2-0, it's the way to get behind 2-0. Öttinger was sub-average in game #1 while having a ****** start and palyed trailing hockey for the rest of the game. The Stars did a good job in game #2, very good first period, Öttinger was solid, the forecheck was good, they did what they had to do but two major pee-wee brain farts led to two Vegas goals. Again, a series of details, but no way you can win when you make such mistakes. No disrespect to the Rangers, the Panthers and other very good teams but with their full roster Vegas is ahead IMO.
  21. His previous deal was for $548,000. https://broadstreetbuzz.com/2023/07/08/ivan-fedotov-wont-return-philadelphia-flyers-signs-cska-moscow/
  22. Didn't see this. I still would have paid it. And would have hoped Michkov would understand. I would have waited and made a run at Anthony Stolarz. Panthers have always kinds of cap issues and could afford to offer him very much. Being a Jersey kid and an X-Flyer I feel they would've had an edge in signing him. Well that dream has sailed...
  23. Only 2 players left from his era. Scott and Coots. He doesn't want to part with him. So when they win the Cup with them he can still say yeah see I help build a Cup winner. But guess what? They ain't wining no Cup with those 2 maybe after they have moved them but not with them.
  24. I posted the podcast in this thread. Charlie O'Connor has reported this repeatedly.
  25. How do you know this he was making 275K to jump to 3 million? Where do you get that info from?
