  1. I just worry we're yet again putting way too much stock in an unproven junior. I have a hard time thinking many NHL GMs are interested in trading top line centers for any junior player. That just seems so unlikely to me. I feel like they're more likely to find a way to move others honestly. Stastny would be the obvious choice to start. If they do move Karlsson, I would have to assume it's for more than a junior player and the 11th overall pick.

  2. Oh for sure, it would take more than Ratcliffe. I'm just using Karlsson as an example where if Ratcliffe is included, it's not giving up assets for over-the-hill vets.

  3. Have you looked at their roster on capfriendly? It ain't pretty. https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/goldenknights 19 guys signed with 0 cap space. Trading Karlsson away removes exactly $0 from their cap hit since he's an RFA. Also, look at how their defense stacks up? They've already got high priced guys back there, so if they're subtracting Karlsson ($5.25m last year), I highly doubt they'd be adding roughly the same in another defenseman. The math and need simply don't work.

  4. Well damn I just notice this was a Ratcliffe thread I'm not trying to hi Jack it. So no let's not trade Ratcliffe. There back in track.

  5. He's really more of a stay at home type through his career. Last season he had 50 pts, which is double his usual totals. He wasn't any sort of dynamo in junior either. It seems more likely last season was an anomaly than not at this point. More than likely he's a 25-30pt guy at best.

  6. You would take Trouba over Subban? Maybe I'm the oddball here, but I'm not sure why Trouba is so adored all of a sudden. Don't get me wrong, he's by no means a bad player, but the way some folks are talking on this board makes me wonder what I'm missing. He plays on a very strong roster and isn't excelling in any real way imo. On our team, I doubt he would end up playing with Provo. He'd likely be a solid 2nd pairing guy, which is great and all, but I'm not backing up the truck for that personally... especially when our bigger need remains down the middle, not on the back end.

  7. As great as Marner would be, 22yr old players with such high potential don't generally move around much. The payment for him would be tremendous as others have noted, and I honestly can't see it happening. I like the W. Karlsson idea. I like Hayes as well. I'm not a big Duchene fan, and I'm pretty confident he'll cost way too much to whomever signs him, but I could understand the acquisition and would be provisionally content with it. Regardless, we need a 2C. Go get one Fletch. I saw a few folks mention Kadri. I wouldn't mind that either. He's on a pretty reasonable contract for what he brings. I'm not sure he's really 2C good, but he's probably good enough to at least push Patrick to try harder. I heard the rumour mill was floating Ghost's name around a fair bit. I wouldn't doubt it's an attempt to find the elusive 2C we're talking about here. Not sure if that fuels the convo or not, but it opens up the trade front rather than just FAs.

  9. Be interesting to see how many off the board picks this team makes. Russo thought they were going after Spencer Knight since Caulfield will be gone at 12. Not sure how I feel about that. Yeah, he's a great goalie, but to spend a first round pick on a goaltender, he better be the second coming of Jacques Plante...and it doesn't matter how great a goalie you have in nets IF THE TEAM CAN"T SCORE...

  10. That's not all. Apparently everyone in the Wild organization told Fenton trading for Kessel when they didn't even know who was on his No Trade list was a bad idea and to not do it. But The Smartest Guy in the Room does it anyway, and then gets mad when Kessel tells him "Your team isn't even close to being a Cup contender. I'm not waiving it for you." And this was even after Suter talked to Kessel to try and get him to come to the Wild. Also, Fenton's apparently been shopping Zucker to anyone and everyone and words gotten out. The Wild are getting a reputation in the league of not treating their players well. This is going to scare off a lot of free agents. And by this second faux pas with Zucker, Fenton has successfully lowered Zuckers trade value to the point where the Wild will be lucky to get a draft pick for him, becasue every GM now knows Fenton wants to dump Zucker. And the Wild have about six scouts at the NHL combine. Every other team has at least a dozen. And the most experienced scout there has six years of service and the guy running the show (PJ Fenton) has one year of experience. If the Wild didn't look like a clown show before, they sure do now...

  12. There is a Filip Johansson clone listed as the #12 prospect in the Hockey News' draft article. About 6 feet tall, right shot defenseman with limited offensive ability.
