  2. Crosby made the playoffs in Y2, lost in the Cup Final Y3, and won in Y4. I'll take that. Couturier is a logical choice, and not a bad one. When I was saying "everyone over 29" he was the 29 I was thinking about keeping...

  3. PRESEASON OUTLOOK Bleak is probably too optomistic a word. They finished dead last, got the first pick drafted Owen Power who said, nah, thanks anyway but I would rather just stay in Michigan. Between that and losing Ullmark to Boston and the ridiculous Eichel thing dragging on, well, most people pictured the same if not worse. FINAL RECORD 32-39-11 75 points 5th in the Atlantic. HIGH POINT OF THE SEASON Well, Trading Eichel for Krebs, Tuch and picks was highway robbery....on the ice they started red hot going 5-1-1 to begin the year including a 5-1 stunner over the two

  4. Y3 was when Rejean went and got Bill Guerin and I think Cullen to show Crosby how to win. If we keep Couturier, maybe (I know he hasn't won in PHI) that steady veteran voice is already in house. That's one less step to take on the road back. Edit: I also think Jordan Staal came on the scene in year 3 .

  5. PRESEASON OUTLOOK Bleak- to put it mildly. They finished dead last in the West in 2021, and then in the offseason added nobody of substance. Longtime GM Bob Murray was gone, Pat Verbeek took over and instead of going in with a bang kept the last place team nearly intact. FINAL RECORD 31-37-14 76 points, 7th in the Pacific. HIGH POINT OF THE YEAR tHEY STARTED SLOW (2-4-3) as expected then inexplicably Troy Terry caught fire and carried them on a eight game winning streak. At that point nearing the quarter turn they were in first place in their Division and through 17 ga

  6. This, 100%. I always disliked him when he was a Duck but he's one main reason why the Stars made it to the final and why the Canadiens made it the year after. He's the one willing to go where it hurts and he seems to be hell of a leader in the room. Plus: he's already won the Cup. The potential deciding X-factor. But he has to stay Perry.

  7. Welcome- In the past 7 years the Flyers have tried to build through the draft during Hextall's tenure. Then they brought n Chuck Fletcher to, I don't know, not drive the bus off the cliff? care take that process. Chuck has had some bad luck to say the least, but also made some stupid moves that didn't alleviate the problems either. Hayes contract and 5+ x 5 for Ristolainen ties his hands pretty well with the salary cap. Are you in favor of what? Dumping all the vets starting fresh? Trying to compete and peel off bad contracts and hoping some draft picks reach their c

  12. I've always found Barry Trotz to be a good coach simply based on the results he usually gets when he is brought on. Obviously, as Nashville's first head coach, he was responsible there for taking a traditional expansion franchise and bringing them up to speed of the league, instilling a workmanlike attitude that I believe persists today there, and with the help of his GM's, stock the minor league system for long term viability. Then he goes over to Washington and helps get the monkey off their back...coaching them to a title, while instilling a sense of hard work defense into what was mos

  14. Wild Signs Forward Pavel Novak to Three-Year, Entry Level Contract The Wild selected Novak in the fifth round (146th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft. Novak, 20 (4/16/02), collected 72 points (29-43=72), a plus-26 rating and 14 penalty minutes (PIM) in 62 games with the Kelowna Rockets in the Western Hockey League (WHL) this season. He ranked T-1st on the team in goals, second in scoring, assists and plus/minus rating, third in power play goals (8) and shots on goal (208) and recorded 20 multi-point games.

  17. Looking back on that trade ,we were better off not making it. Forsberg was just as good as Lindros. Sure there were differences in their styles but statistically they were pretty on par. Lindros was always hurt, Forsberg won the Cup and Lindros didn’t. Plus we threw in Hextall,Duschense, Huffman,Ricci, Simon ,plus 2 first round picks.

  18. Buttman has had his share of that for sure. I am always in the belief that things work out in these weird ways to benefit ratings, media, and of course money as well. If Montreal gets the #1 pick that means the place will be packed for sure and not only that the area will be watching and buying beverages which means more money being spent. I always looks at things that way.

  20. when you say this, you may as well just use the dreaded "R" word, and to put a fine point on my take after seeing this. I don't see Trotz signing up for that kind of job at this stage in his career. He did it once in Nashville, as a younger man with more energy. Do you think it's best to hire the coach first then try to refresh the roster? Truly where the Flyers are, I don't even know where I would begin and which path I would take. I can see trying to remain competitive and ways to do that, I see merit in tearing most of it down also. I am having a

  22. Which veterans remain? Konecny, Provorov, Sanheim, and Farabee, those are the "core players"? Are there signings of different experienced players? The team could potentially be EDM East if they were to get Cooley one year and Bedard the next with no real veteran leadership in place, Those guys get thrown into the league and have to figure it our on their own ala Sidney Crosby and the sucking is prolonged. I would hang on to Couturier. His contract isn't crippling, he's a very good, almost great player when he's healthy. I would try to move Hayes instead. Mov

  24. Ok, I was expecting the Flames to come out very strong and put the Stars under a storm of nuke and fire. But I haven't thought the Flames could handle that rhythm during the whole game and maintain that level of heat. Goddamn climate warming, I guess... A win totally derserved, Öttinger can't do all by himself and be God all the time. And as a defense-first minded team, getting 54 freakin' SOG is quite embarrassing. The game was fun, they were A+ opportunities on both sides but the Stars just don't have any offense at all. Pavelski was checked 24/7, the top line was off, the other

  26. What I was saying earlier though. They're not that good, they rode a hot goalie for the season. A goalie who now seems to have either burnt out or worn out or just lost his mojo. Without him they aren't much.

I hope the old Toby Keith lyric (not a country guy) applies tomorrow night for him... I ain't as good as I once was,But I'm as good once as I ever was."

  31. Why do I get the distinct feeling that the same thing is going to happen with this coach search that happened when AV got hired. Trots will get hired by another team and Fletcher will come out and say “We didn’t even talk to him” just like when Quenneville got hired by Florida. EDIT: italicized my edit

  32. I am seriously crushing on young Jake Öttinger. Of course, I'd need to be careful now cause I am old enough to be his mom (yikes!) Seriously though...he has been fantastic. Bishop who? Khodobin who?? Holtby WHO??? Jake Umlaut Öttinger is the only name Dallas fans need to know when asked who is in net for them! Thus far, 112 of 115 shots stopped in the series, according to the TBS announcers. Insane!

  36. Me neither. And one has nothting to do with the other. A good solid goalie coach is what Hart needs. It reminds me of when Carson Wentz had his best friend as his QB coach and let him slack off with his fundamentals and mechanics and well Carson has never recovered form that in fact the same guy followed him to Indy and well we know how that ended. The coach has to do his job and fix Hart because he slipped big time this year.

  37. Unfortunately, not only 4th line but 3rd line too is not very productive during these series. I wish to see plenty of goals from Fiala-Gaudreau-Boldy line. Not sure if Bjugstad will be more productive than Duhaime. Rossi would be a nice addition to the 4th line, but he was not tested enough here during a regular season. And now he does not have a chance to be used during playoffs because he was injured at the end of AHL season.

  40. He's pretty f***ing amazing. Take into account he's 16 and plays on an absolute crap team, so he's focused on every game. he was 4th overall in WHL scoring, getting beat out by a pair of guys who are 21 and going to be 20 in a week who play on the same line, and a 19 year old. Bedards closest scoring teammate had 61 points. He put up 100. He's a highlight reel every game.
