  1. I watched the game last night and the wife was screaming at the TV when Laine just hovered 10 feet away from Mcginn allowing Mcginn to score a goal to tie the score. About five minutes later Laine did THE EXACT THING AGAIN this time Mcginn hit a crossbar. The wife looked at me and said, "you know torts is gonna glue his ass to the bench now dontcha?" He absolutely deserved it. Once was bad, twice was unforgivable. Absolute right call. Roslovic is looking like an absolute steal in the trade so far.

  2. If you're looking for positive signs, I liked the way the Flyers moved the puck, AND the many times they actually SHOT the puck. Good vibes.

  3. I would give the Flyguys a B for today's effort. They played well defensively, but I would still like to see 60 minutes from their defense, and a little more from them 5 on 5. Man, is it nice to have Moose as our backup. They played well against a team that looks completely lost and seems to want to get its coach fired. A shutout win is a shutout win!

  4. Just got to give a little love to Flyers 4th round selection Zayde Wisdom who might be my favorite Fletcher draft pick to date. When he signed his entry level contract, he didn't go out and buy an exotic car, or a giant gold clock necklace, he donated money to the Salvation Army, who had helped feed him and his family while he was growing up poor. The OHL hasn't started up yet due to covid, so Wisdom made his way onto the Phantoms roster...as an 18 year old. So how's he doing? Look up....waaaaaay up, at the top of the scoring. That's Zayde Wisdom, 18 year old 4th ro

  5. Looking at each Division, passing the quarter turn here are the biggest disappointments from each division NORTH Gotta be the Canucks with an 8-11-1 record and a minus 10 goal differential, giving up nearly four goals a game as the defense is putrid in front of Demko/Holtby. Pettersson hasn't approached the level expected. Calgary isnt far behind. CENTRAL Nashville. Stick a fork in them, 6-9 record, but minus 18 they cannot score Rinne is aging poorly and Saros doesnt appear to be the answer. Fire sale expected soon. EAST Rangers 4-7-3, much was expected the

  6. Absolutely agree! I love reading all his yearly recaps among other things. Here is a toast to @yave1964!

  7. First off, I want to acknowledge @yave1964 for his CONSTANT contributions on various NHL items throughout the site. Lots of people talk about "knowledgeable" and enthusiastic overall NHL fans, well, this man is a textbook example. Just putting that out there for those that may have been living under a rock and still don't know. His postings and opinions may not always be right, and they don't have to be, but they are well educated posts, come from an honest viewpoint, and from a man who really does pay attention to what goes on in the league. Thank you, Sir.... Ahem....onto my p

  8. What a sad opinion. Maybe Canadian teams should form their own league. Then the leafs can have a chance to be champions again

  9. My take watching about 2/3rd of the game. Pluses: 1. We have some firepower and emerging 2nd line that might be first at the rate they're going. 2. Laughton is an example of slow but steady development. 3. Coots matters. Minuses: 1. Our D gets burned in bang-bang plays by opponent top lines. 2. Hart may be having a bit, and I emphasize bit, of a slump. That might be part of non-preseason. 3. As I've said before, it is strange to see previous years' pattern of outshoot but underscore your opponents being reversed. Yes, we are getting

  10. When did JVR become a hockey player????

  11. Here's my take on Giroux.... At one point he was, at least on NHL broadcasts, considered a top 4 player in the game. And at the start of his Flyer career, he seemed to have fire and passion. In recent years, he no longer is in the discussion of "best" players in the game, and isn't often discussed among "top" players in the game. I don't even consider him the best player on his team. To exacerbate this, the "decline" seemed to follow him getting a huge contract. Speaking of said contract, when a player is receiving that type of money, and isn't delivering, the criticism will happen

  12. I have to go work.. I should just lie I'm sick. Have a good third period!
    4 points
  13. This is one of our best periods. We came back from a stale period and got sloppy goals from pure effort. Those are the goals we have been missing for years, playing catch along the boards. For every great goal, a couple of greasy goals are needed to be a top team. This is a resilient bunch, too

  14. YAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!! каприсов стреляет он забивает!! This is only a test post. Had this been a real post, Kaprisov would've scored at the 8:17 mark of the 2nd period.

  16. Kap is going to become the best player since Gaborik. In fact, I already think he is in the short sample (First to 10 points, and will likely beat a lot of Wild rookie records). That said, I am guessing the team will have more success than during the Gabby years. There is just something about how he is making everyone better. Only the very few have this across sports. It is early, but there are great signs. Last night, Evason said after the game that 'the coaching staff is not surprised, we could see this in practice.' This says a lot.

  18. Walz finally makes a good point. "It might be time for Marcus Foligno to go have a talk with Doughty" about the cheap shot on Kaprisov. We may need to plant a Semenko type from the Gretzky days on Kaps line to minimize the dirty play against him.... Suter with the ole'

  21. Totally agree. Skill is one thing (see Fiala), but his brilliance on the ice is as much about his hockey IQ as it is about his skill. He just has a very different anticipation than the typical newcomer to the NHL (that only the very Elite 1st overall picks have). His impact started in game 1, and he creates opportunity on almost every shift already. I have very high hopes for him, but the vision has exceeded all expectations, as has his creativity and stamina. Keep in mind that the rumor when we drafted him was that he was overweight and entitled - not what I see at all.

  29. Hextall doesn't owe the Flyers anything. Remember, when Hextall was fired, Holmgren went into his office and told him things weren't working and fired him. It was a 20 second conversation at the most. The Flyers organization basically crapped on him and tossed him out. Now, Hextall refused to fire Hakstol and it's clear that he was digging in his heels and that kind of insubordination deserved some sort of rebuke, but they treated Ron poorly. You don't treat an employee like that. The Flyers kind of brought this on themselves.

  30. For this reason, for all the "Stamkos isn't as great a goal scorer as he is made out to be" crap I hear, I am glad Stammer and his coaches decided to round out his game and be MORE than just a one time shot from the circles. Sure, Stamkos likely never sees 50-60 goals a season ever again, but his overall game has made him a very good two way forward who is still going to contribute on offense. I have a feeling that if Laine is to survive in Columbus (or most other places for that matter), he might wanna take a similar approach to his game. He doesn't need to score 50 a year if he is do

  40. C U Monday. MUST SEE hockey - did you see Dumba with the Kirill the Thrill T-Shirt? Pretty awesome that he said 'this kid's attitude is infectious - all he wants to do is work - he puts so much pressure on himself we have to calm him down.' What happened to the 'overweight, entitled, and lazy' adjectives that teams heard about him during his draft year? Lost in (Russian) translation, perhaps!??! Other team's loss is our gain, I guess. The fricken 5th Round!?!?!?

  42. Hope, we will repeat our success tonight too as we play as a team supporting each other and producing goals from our all lines. I was thinking recently about comparison between Gaborik and Kaprizov and looked for their differences. In my opinion , Gaborik had a huge talent more as the individual scoring player, but Kaprizov has more talent to unify/to consolidate the team as a team's play to produce the successful results or by scoring and or by assisting equally. Looked how bloomed this season our players EEK; Greenway (both playing with Fiala on the 1st youngest line in our history); Hartman

  44. I get that but Blash has done a terrible job of developing the kids into NHLers so yeah, he has to go. I see no harm in him finishing out this season but I would love to see former Wing and Yzerman best friend Gerard Gallant get another kick at the can next season. I love his resume but i agree it doesnt matter who coaches this woebegone F troop this season.

  45. Your not getting anything for Nolan Patrick. Injury history and under whelming play equals no trade value. I'll give the kid some slack. I figured he would come out good at the start then hit a wall. You cant miss that much time and not have that happen to you. It's going to take him some time to get back to where he needs to be. I think the coaching staff understands that. Thing with him is he needs to figure out what type of player he wants to be. Look at Laughten how long it took him to figure out the style of play that he needed play to stick in the NHL. Some guys never figure it out. Whic
