  1. I watched the game last night and the wife was screaming at the TV when Laine just hovered 10 feet away from Mcginn allowing Mcginn to score a goal to tie the score. About five minutes later Laine did THE EXACT THING AGAIN this time Mcginn hit a crossbar. The wife looked at me and said, "you know torts is gonna glue his ass to the bench now dontcha?" He absolutely deserved it. Once was bad, twice was unforgivable. Absolute right call. Roslovic is looking like an absolute steal in the trade so far.

  2. More importantly, it's one thing to develop enough to make the NHL (which is already very very hard), it's another one entirely to become a top six sniper in the NHL. Those guys may all get their shot, but it's entirely possible they never become top six fixtures. Generally speaking, I feel we could all use a nice shift in perspective on some of these guys. We overvalue so much, without taking into account exactly what we're asking of them. Becoming a top six guy in the best hockey league in the world is something only a fraction of players ever even sniff at. Put another way, the

  5. Just got to give a little love to Flyers 4th round selection Zayde Wisdom who might be my favorite Fletcher draft pick to date. When he signed his entry level contract, he didn't go out and buy an exotic car, or a giant gold clock necklace, he donated money to the Salvation Army, who had helped feed him and his family while he was growing up poor. The OHL hasn't started up yet due to covid, so Wisdom made his way onto the Phantoms roster...as an 18 year old. So how's he doing? Look up....waaaaaay up, at the top of the scoring. That's Zayde Wisdom, 18 year old 4th ro

  6. Looking at each Division, passing the quarter turn here are the biggest disappointments from each division NORTH Gotta be the Canucks with an 8-11-1 record and a minus 10 goal differential, giving up nearly four goals a game as the defense is putrid in front of Demko/Holtby. Pettersson hasn't approached the level expected. Calgary isnt far behind. CENTRAL Nashville. Stick a fork in them, 6-9 record, but minus 18 they cannot score Rinne is aging poorly and Saros doesnt appear to be the answer. Fire sale expected soon. EAST Rangers 4-7-3, much was expected the

  8. First off, I want to acknowledge @yave1964 for his CONSTANT contributions on various NHL items throughout the site. Lots of people talk about "knowledgeable" and enthusiastic overall NHL fans, well, this man is a textbook example. Just putting that out there for those that may have been living under a rock and still don't know. His postings and opinions may not always be right, and they don't have to be, but they are well educated posts, come from an honest viewpoint, and from a man who really does pay attention to what goes on in the league. Thank you, Sir.... Ahem....onto my p

  10. My take watching about 2/3rd of the game. Pluses: 1. We have some firepower and emerging 2nd line that might be first at the rate they're going. 2. Laughton is an example of slow but steady development. 3. Coots matters. Minuses: 1. Our D gets burned in bang-bang plays by opponent top lines. 2. Hart may be having a bit, and I emphasize bit, of a slump. That might be part of non-preseason. 3. As I've said before, it is strange to see previous years' pattern of outshoot but underscore your opponents being reversed. Yes, we are getting

  11. When did JVR become a hockey player????

  12. Here's my take on Giroux.... At one point he was, at least on NHL broadcasts, considered a top 4 player in the game. And at the start of his Flyer career, he seemed to have fire and passion. In recent years, he no longer is in the discussion of "best" players in the game, and isn't often discussed among "top" players in the game. I don't even consider him the best player on his team. To exacerbate this, the "decline" seemed to follow him getting a huge contract. Speaking of said contract, when a player is receiving that type of money, and isn't delivering, the criticism will happen

  15. How does Yandle help the defense? If we do this, Gustufson or Ghost or both HAVE to go. We simply cannot carry three defensemen that cannot play defense. I really don't like Yandle and don't think he's a good fit here.

  16. Totally agree. Skill is one thing (see Fiala), but his brilliance on the ice is as much about his hockey IQ as it is about his skill. He just has a very different anticipation than the typical newcomer to the NHL (that only the very Elite 1st overall picks have). His impact started in game 1, and he creates opportunity on almost every shift already. I have very high hopes for him, but the vision has exceeded all expectations, as has his creativity and stamina. Keep in mind that the rumor when we drafted him was that he was overweight and entitled - not what I see at all.

  24. Hextall doesn't owe the Flyers anything. Remember, when Hextall was fired, Holmgren went into his office and told him things weren't working and fired him. It was a 20 second conversation at the most. The Flyers organization basically crapped on him and tossed him out. Now, Hextall refused to fire Hakstol and it's clear that he was digging in his heels and that kind of insubordination deserved some sort of rebuke, but they treated Ron poorly. You don't treat an employee like that. The Flyers kind of brought this on themselves.

  25. For this reason, for all the "Stamkos isn't as great a goal scorer as he is made out to be" crap I hear, I am glad Stammer and his coaches decided to round out his game and be MORE than just a one time shot from the circles. Sure, Stamkos likely never sees 50-60 goals a season ever again, but his overall game has made him a very good two way forward who is still going to contribute on offense. I have a feeling that if Laine is to survive in Columbus (or most other places for that matter), he might wanna take a similar approach to his game. He doesn't need to score 50 a year if he is do

  32. The O and B are are marginal favorites but I am posting less than an hour after the Saturday win. The message to TK sank in for the first period and we were playing as well as we have this season. Then we succumbed to the Devils Trap Redux. I hope the Bunnaman line continues to work hard and dig deep. They seem to be carrying play better than their top-6 teammates. Ghost is playing well, which is a positive.

  34. Looking back on the 2018 draft, Farabee is outscoring pretty well anyone not taken top 4 (and Quinn Hughes taken 7th) while providing a good all around game. There aren't any players at this point taken after who have leaped ahead of O'Brien as far as their NHL careers go, so really as long as he keeps developing... Ginning was such a non- Hextall type pick I'm still scratching my head there. Wylie has been coming along quite well. Ersson too!

  36. I'd send Gus back. Yes, he's worthless and the Rags probably know it. But he's something that isn't a cancer, and the entire league seems to have come to that conclusion regarding DeAngelo. I don't send anything of value for DeAngelo. I get the impression that "cancer" isn't a grim enough assessment. "Hey, I got leprosy and ebola. I can't believe I got them for nothing and some other jerk is paying for half of it! I smurt!" I know what skill he's tempting. It looks like two teams have already said "gotta try it. We'll fix the sociopathic vein." Now two t

  37. We nearly squandered a hat trick and good-to-great performance in goal. I am glad we won but something has to give on the 3rd D-pairing. I don't know if it is bringing up Pulliot, ending the Morin wing experiment, or bringing in "other," but it is no fun watching good performances going to waste. We won't win overtimes like a Swiss watch.

  38. Some. The big concern has to be our own end. Yesterday we won four d-zone face offs in a row but failed to get the puck out each time. No bueno. I'm not seeing enuff support in the soft zones to give the D a quick, short outlet to relieve pressure. Every time, it's just sent around the boards. I know that sometimes, that's your only play, but it can't be the only play all the time. Need to be better in our zone, with the puck. Period.

  43. I defended him a lot back in his Montreal days. For Selfish reasons. He was on my fantasy team. I screamed and hollered at Therrien for playing Plekanec and 5 foot 2 Desharnais as 1st and 2nd line C. I could not understand why. Desharnais has some kind of dirt on Therrien. He managed to stay on the top power play for like 30 games and he only had 3 PP points to show for it. A ham sandwich could see Galchenyuk with that shot should be there. once both top C's got injured and Therrien had no choice but to try gally, I was smug as Gally racked up goals. boooooooy did that not last

  44. Players, coaches, & staff are NOT going to to bars. That's an ignorant statement. They are not interacting with the fans, most of their team meetings are on Zoom, and the press conferences are virtual. They get put on the protocol list for GOING TO A TEAMMATES HOTEL ROOM, for f#$% sake! When the teams are on the road they are sequestered in their hotel rooms. When the team is at home they are at their home. There is no way to tell how someone got infected with this virus. They could've been infected by the asymptomatic bus driver whose asymptomatic wife picked it up at
