  1. Greetings: I just read my profile and noticed its been 10 years since joining the board. I am not sure if it was Radoran or FC who led me over, but I recall a group who defected at about the same time. We have a good gig--civil and intelligent, with some humor and street wisdom. Thanks to our leaders, HF, pilldoc, and Tropical, and all the Supporting Members. Let's hope for another decade in good health...maybe one with a Stanley Cup along the way. Peace, Howie

  3. When you read and hear about the poison of so many web-based outlets, this exception is very special. It is worth celebrating. I've said it before and say it again, this is an extended family. I really hope we stay happy, healthy, and engaged for years to come.

  5. I think he's a flagship example of this organization destroying a player. He's the next Justin Williams. He's a very good player who's had the player sucked out of him by this dementor of an organization. I hope he recovers when he's moved. And I feel terrible for the impending mental health disaster for whatever kid or kids are coming back. Because their spirit and skills are about to be shredded and we'll be throwing them out in a couple years. And writing posts blaming them. Rinse. Repeat.

  6. ha, i dunno, man, coming back here and seeing LITERALLY the same exact post topics and conversations, just with all new names in the organization, PTSD is a real thing. and don't mention giroux as the common thread, because he was a faint source of hope many years into the "we have our awesome moments, but really, don't take us seriously, they are just moments" era of the flyers. don't want to be a stranger, but touching the hot stove that hasn't been turned off for like 20 years.... that said, it's pretty awesome to see so many of you still around. you are dedicated

  7. And thanks to all those who sacrifice all and keep us safe so we can enjoy what so many don't get to enjoy. Even as insignificant as hockey may seem in all this mad world we all can come here to escape sometime and share one common bond. Happy holidays And the loved ones we miss during these times that made it so special.

  9. Neither did Laviolette's - who has only won a Cup and subsequently taken another team to the Final. Nor did Berube's - who has subsequently won a Cup with another franchise And now AV's doesn't work, either - a coach who has been to two Cup finals with two other franchises Now, stay with me here, I'm speculating that it just maybe, perhaps, might not be "the coach".

  10. Well the Flyers are 8-8. Perfectly mediocre...the farm is the AHLs worst...Fletch's work is done. It took awhile, but they've finally got Couturier and Farabee to play terrible hockey. If Hart isn't stealing games this popgun offence isn't going to beat any decent team. 2 goals or less in 10 games. Scored more than 3 once since the first 3 games. And of the oldest 13 players on the team, ol' Fletch brought in 10 of them in his short tenure. So at least the future is bright. Gostisbehere leads his team in points. Fletcher traded assets just to get rid of

  12. I didn't see this all put together in one spot and I needed to see it broken out so....this is what happened in the past week or so. Going into the 2021-2022 season the Flyers top priorities were: Top-pair defensemen for Provorov to play with (and mentor the kids). Ellis A shoot-first top 6 winger. Atkinson (I think we need another but not sure it can/will happen) To get tougher to play against. Ristolainen (and Atkinson & maybe a little of Ellis honestly) A backup goalie capable of playing 20-30 games. Of the 4 trades, the

  13. Quenneville should never be aloud to coach in the NHL ever again. After reading a lot of went on with the Hawks. He lost any right to be head coach in NHL. To me he was one the worst enablers in the whole scandal. I don't believe an NHL team would think it's worth the headache.

  14. Whoever the brilliant minds bring in to coach, I just hope they get us Connor Bedard. I'll say Neal Broten. Never coached a day in his life. Minnesota North Stars alltime leading scorer though. And he's from Minnesota. If Homer and Fletch read this, consider it a done deal.

  15. Bet the farm on Tocchet. Six years as head coach. Zero playoff round wins (one playoff round). Team never finished higher than 4th. "Flyer hockey" "tough to play against" yadda yadda It's been inevitable since he was inducted into the Flyer Hall of Fame next to Homer. As always, happy to be wrong...

  16. When my youngest was a peewee, we got a chance to attend a Canadiens optional practice. No coaches on the ice. Players were free to practice whatever they wanted. Despite his reputation as an undisciplined free spirit, Lafleur pushed himself hard. I think my son learned a lesson that day. Success requires hard work.

  18. I have seen Jakob Chychrun play some games and he has value and of course is young, but I think an equally if not better player is Ivan Provorov. Maybe right at the moment he is not playing to his standards, but he is also only 25 years old and I feel he has much more to give in the future. I know Flyers fans watch him day in and day out in games and get frustrated, but I think there will be some reward in the end with him.

  19. -The return is definitely light; there's no two ways about it. -If Friedman's reporting is correct, and Florida was the only team Giroux would waive for, then Fletcher's big mistake was letting Montreal jump the line and get all of the goodies before the Flyers could. -I hope that I've built enough goodwill around here to say this and for folks to know that I'm not trolling: your management team badly needs to go. -The Panthers had better win, because they've completely emptied the cupboards now.

  20. Lots of pundits were convinced that the Flyers would be in the thick of things this year, instead they are buried in the standings at 16-24-10 dead last in the Metropolitan. The question is how? As an outsider looking in, here is what I would say are the top ten reasons the season went off the rails. 10: CARTER HART WAS GOOD BUT NOT GREAT AND MARTIN JONES IS MARTIN JONES How much of the goaltending you can blame on the defense is debatable but truth is Hart actually has had a very decent year with his goals against dropping from 3.67 to 2.90 this year which is ver

  27. Teams have a habit of making their best player Captain. Lindros and G were never Captain material. Just because someone is your best player it does not mean he is a leader. All it does is place extra pressure on a guy who is already in the spotlight and expected to do great things. It's a bad move.

  29. No, it doesn't. It needs an actual rebuild and a change in fundamental hockey phillyosophy. One would think a decade of the worst on ice results in franchise history would get that message across.

  30. If Fletcher trades Giroux he may as well hand in his resignation. He's gone all in with his idiotic long term signing of Hayes, trading of picks/players for soon to be signed too long Ristolainen, more picks/players for signed for too long Ellis. He brought in old man Yandle (he of ZERO points in his last 17 games) to replace the guy he gave away along with draft picks Shayne Gostisbehere (who LEADS his team in scoring). He brought in old man Brassard. And old man Braun. And old man Atkinson. And older man Thompson. Who all looked like great pickups...for 5 games. Sadly the season is 82 games

  31. He has a pedigree, so there's hope. It's entirely mental at this point. That game was huge for his confidence. But it can be shattered in an instance so his next start is crucial. Hopefully Ellis gets back soon, because we are spending too much time in our end, which is unsustainable.

  32. Ah...It's all coming back to me now! Now I remember what it feels like to watch a hockey game and be entertained and pleased with the effort and outcome!! Been a while... 1) I LOVE watching Giroux shoot the puck this much.....(Vora-who?) 2) Martin Jones CAN play the position. Can he do it consistently? And can our D start making life a bit easier on him/Hart. Hart WILL have a bounce back year. Maybe not a Vezna year but he'll give us what we need in the pipes (god i hope) 3) We are winning these games DESPITE missing Ellis, Hayes, etc. 4) Brassar

  33. What I dont like has nothing to do with his heritage or anything off ice, I feel he is hands down bar none the most overrated player in all of hockey today, and would probably be a first or second team all time overrated goalie ever. Looking at his last five years; 2021 2.64 goals against 21st among goalies. Save pct of .901 40th among goalies (A quick note, this is not including goalies such as Craig Anderson who got into a few games, I am using only goalies in both cases who played at least one third of their teams games) 2020 2.79 goals against, 32nd in t

  34. They got him to forego free agency and take lower than he probably is worth on the open market (again). That costs something, and that something in this case is term. If he has radically declined at 37/38, the buyout option doesn't look terribly onerous, either.

  39. ^^^^ This x1000 ^^^^ This is exactly the mentality that has plagued this team for the past decade. It should read "its not what the Flyers do" to ----> "It's what the Flyers HAVE TO DO!" Quite frankly I don't give a damn about Flyers history any more. It's no longer about the Broadstreet Bullies, or the Flyers vs Soviets in 76, or Kate Smith singing "God Bless America". Nice memories ...of course, I became a Flyers fan because of a lot those fond memories. But that is what they are ....just memories. The NHL is NO longer played that way. Simply put, the NHL cha

Here is a good take on this performance: https://www.broadstreethockey.com/2022/1/5/22868040/ducks-4-flyers-1-fake-game-didnt-happen-nhl-recap-analysis-carter-hart-troy-terry-cam-york We were offensively inept and our D exhibited the same crap we've witnessed for the past few seasons, with heavy duty breakdowns leading to prime scoring opportunities. Risto's performance was a reminder of how big a mistake CF made in the acquisition. OK, he levels people. Then the folks he levels go on to score because he neglects to cover them close to the net. 43. From where I sit, there is no way that any of the events even leading up to the assault is acceptable conduct in a professional environment for an NHL coach to engage in with a bunch of 20 year olds who aren't legally allowed to drink. Even if it was "just a beer party" - and it was clearly not - these aren't the actions of a Coach that an NHL franchise should be condoning or allowing to happen in the first place. Especially so when one of their star players has had such a public problem with underage drinking. Nor does it absolve the team, coaches, and executives from
