If you are looking long term, and cap management, who is more important to the Flyers, Sanheim or Konecny? I would argue that Sanheim is more important to the Flyers long-term future than Konecny. Given this , why should Konecny receive more than Sanheim?

Not make excuses. They lost the game they should have won. Somehow they looked just like their parent club! Watched the entire game. It was far and away the worst refereed game I have seen in a long time. It's unbelievable, but the officiating is much worse in the AHL than the NHL.

Given that there are supposedly a plethora of goalies available, maybe we can get him for a couple or years, for around a million each.

The Bruins just signed Svedberg as their backup goalie for next year. That means that Chad Johnson will be a UFA. Although it has taken him awhile to mature, his last two years work has been impressive. At the right price, I think he would look good in O&B. He might even give Mason a run for his money. Competition is always good.

HF101 You and others have done a fabulous job of creating a great hockey site.We lost Philly.com, but you have created something so much better. Sure it came out of a Philly base, but every month it has become broader and more interesting as its membership has become more diverse. It is not surprising that I read about it here, then a day later it is in a feature article of one of hockey's North American journalists. Keep up the great work and keep it diverse.

Nothing against Mike Richards, but I really hope that Flyers stop signing UFAs and focus on building from what they have. Mike Richards had his time in Philadelphia and there were good moments, but it is time to move forward, not backward.

Jammer, Thanks for the incite. Ekblat apparently is the whole package. A once in a generation defenceman. Any guesses what the Flyers would have to give up, to get him (assuming the No1 pick is available)?

Really good question/s. This defense is s l o w and o l d. Coburn is a good 2-3 defesseman. Age has caught up with Timmo. Schenn is a slow 2-4 defenseman. Grossmann was really good when he first came over from Dallas, but age and injuries have taken their toll. Streit and McDonald are mobile decent 2-4 defensemen. They do not have a true 1-2 defenseman at this time. Not a pretty picture. I really think that the Flyers have finally learned that you have to build through the draft and hold on to those draft choices. I'm really excited about the future Flyers defense. Ghost, Hagg, Morin, Alt, Gus, maybe the Russian, Vaseliev and Larrsen. Additionally, I would not be surprised if they traded for a high draft pick this Summer and went after a d'man, or baring that they trade for a true number 1 d'man. Given time for this group to mature and meld together, and I think that Mason will have a super defense in front of him in 2-3 years. If the Flyers do go heavily for defense this Summer, my only worry is what will the forwards look like in five years? BTW: Are there any good European d'men and or forwards who might be lured to Philly?
