  1. Samu Tuomaala with a goal and assist in a 4-3 lists to Laval. That's now 22 points in 25 games and he's leading the team in scoring as a 20 year old. I'm going to give credit where credit is due - Chuck Fletcher and Brent Flahr may have hit a grand slam with Tuomaala. He's going to be REAL good.
  2. Depends what the offers are for Walker. He's played well, but it seems Briere really wants to build a sound and solid foundation and I'm not sure if Walker fits the bill. I had also read online that Vancouver has started to sniff around and that there have been scouts at Flyers games watching Walker. If the offer is something like Aatu Raty and a draft pick, Briere should be all over that.
  3. Samu Tuomaala with a goal and two assists tonight and Alexis Gendron with two goals in a 5-4 win over Rochester. Of note, Tuomaala now has 17 points in 18 games and is tied for the AHL lead in assists with Brandt Clarke. I think it's safe to say that Samu is back on track and that he looks like a legitimate prospect again. He seems to be hitting stride. Hopefully the Flyers do the right thing with him and leave him in Lehigh Valley for the year. Let him get on a role and dominate down there.
  4. I don't buy the lack of finishers. There's a large number of 20 goal players in that line up. That's more than adequate. The problem is that the power play is a complete mess and Thompson refuses to change it up. When he was an assistant in San Jose, he also ran the power play there. It was 29th overall in the league and now for two consecutive years here in Philadelphia, the power play is one of the worst. What makes it even more concerning is that Tortorella doesn't care that the power play is bad. He's all about grinding out and low scoring affairs. It's not going to change either when Michkov or Gauthier arrive. It's getting really old to see the team continue to struggle to generate any offense and Tortorella continually talks about how they lack talent and how they have to grind it out to win. The league is about offense and we have a coach who has said he doesn't understand offensive hockey and the assistant who is supposed to be an offensive wizard can't put a simple offensive game plan together to utilize everyone's strengths accordingly. Yeah, I'm getting tired of the Tortorella act. It wears thin and it's the same continual garbage over and over. What Tortorella did 20 years ago no longer works now. He needed to adapt. He hasn't.
  5. Bonk putting together a really nice season in London. 22 games, 22 points, 5 goals with little power play time. He might end up being one of those rare defensemen that will put up numbers with very little power play time. I think he's going to make the jump as a 20 year old.
  6. He's been scratched because according to Tortorella he's 'hit a wall.' Young players aren't allowed to play through any signs of adversity.
  7. That's the thing though. The pipeline is being replenished with goaltenders and Kolosov is REALLY good. And more important, he's signed to come over next year. I had hoped for Fedotov to give over this year, but that's a wash and he'll be used as a ticket to get Michkov out of Russia early. And I fully expect that the Flyers will draft more goaltenders in 2024 and probably look at the NCAA free agents as well. As for Hart, I hope he hits. I really do. But I'm not holding my breath. Yes I get that the Flyers have not been good for the majority of his career. But usually you see goalies embrace that challenge of back stopping a bad team and don't break down mentally over that. That's been Hart's Achilles heel. When things don't go his way, he gets lost mentally and checks out. He needs to get tough mentally.
  8. Here's my issue with Hart. He gets on a roll early in the season and he looks all world. Then a losing streak will happen and he completely falls apart. Like mentally, he completely checks out. To make matters worse, these breakdowns usually happen during important marks in the season. Then once the Flyers are eliminated from contention and the pressure is off, Hart goes back to good goalie mode. I need to see Hart get over this hump before making any commitment. And even then, I'd only sign him to a over year deal to see if he can repeat his success. Yeah I'm rough on Hart, but I've watched this club for nearly 40 years and I've been caught up in good goaltenders before that have flamed out. This is a critical year for Hart to set is he can finally put it all together from a mental standpoint.
  9. They need to fire Rocky Thompson ASAP. Enough of this 7.7% power play nonsense. What he's doing isn't working. For an offensive coach, he's pretty terrible.
  10. I didn't care for Perrault. The guy I wanted was Riley Heidt. I thought the Flyers needed a legit center prospect and this was a 17 year old in the WHL who played in all situations, got lots of ice time and scored 97 points. Terrific skater, intelligent and physical. In reality, he was a better skating Mike Richards. I'm glad that Bonk is a Flyer though. Seriously, he's going to be a top pairing defenseman for a long time. That was also a need. I was reading Bleacher Report tonight and they had their first regular mock draft and they had the Flyers drafting Zayne Parekh and Cayden Lindstrom. I just watched some video of Lindstrom tonight and what an impressive physical talent. He's got size at 6'5, 210 pounds, but he's got speed, smarts and hands. And he can shoot. He's got Tage Thompson vibes to him.
  11. Flyers development 101. Add this to Tortorella's press conference after the game about not wanting to get into a run and gun game with Anaheim and you just have to shake your head. If you're that afraid of the Ducks and if you think your players can't keep up, then maybe you need to move on. Yeah, I'm really starting to sour on the Tortorella experience. It also doesn't help that he says he doesn't understand offensive hockey and the guy on the staff who supposedly understands offensive hockey runs the third worst power play in the league.
  12. Didn't look dirty on the replay. Osipov clearly has a height advantage on Desnoyers and he caught Desnoyers with the puck. The on ice awareness of players sometimes isn't what it should be.
  13. I'm going for a defenseman and a forward this year again. If the defenseman is Mews from Ottawa and the forward is Greentree, that's a win for me.
  14. Define star talent. The only reason I ask is because that term is being thrown around like the term "franchise player" used to be. Is a star player someone who scores 100 points in a season? Is it someone who scores 50 goals? Is it someone who has a two-way game like Patrice Bergeron had? Is it a defenseman that averages a point per game and plays 25+ minutes a night? See what I mean. Star player is so generic that with no definition, it could be anything. I'm not trying to be difficult, but there really needs to be a definition of what a star player is.
  15. Barkey also had a four point night last night against Owen Sound. That's now 26 points in 17 games. Bonk with 14 points in 17 games. London just continually turns out players. And make no mistake, these two will be players for quite some time.
  16. Greentree is hopefully a Flyer using the Florida pick.
  17. If Barkey can become a Yanni Gourde or Brayden Point, that would be HUGE!!!!!
  18. I must be a masochist because I'm loving this. I really want to see who wants to be here and is willing to fight through. As well, in looking forward to seeing the first veteran who has an all out war with Tortorella about how the team is run or how Rocky Thompson continues to roll out a power play that is far beyond horrible and nothing will change.
  19. Well, this is what I expected from the Flyers this year. They're heading to the annual 10 game losing streak like clock work. Let's see which players will continue to labour through and which players are going to give up.
  20. If Rocky Thompson is smart (and so far he's proving he's anything but), they're going to deploy Gauthier on the point of the power play and let him bomb away from there.
  21. Agreed that the forwards are further along and the defense is a work in progress. If they move Frost and get a defender in return (right handed preferably), that should help. Bonk is about 2 to 3 years away at a minimum and Attard is aging himself out of the prospect group. The good news is that with two first round picks this year and with the draft being deep with good right handed defensemen, the Flyers should be able to draft one. I'm still on the bandwagon though that Gauthier will be a left wing at the NHL level, so they're going to need a top center prospect to balance things out.
  22. I still hope they're sellers. I'll give credit where it's due - they're playing well right now. That's the year 2 Tortorella effect. However, I still see a lineup with players playing out of position, relying on players that are past their prime or just aren't any good. The other interesting thing that Tortorella pointed out in his press conference last night is how does this team respond if they go on a prolonged losing streak? If they go on a 10 game losing streak (how many of those did we see when Schmuck Felcher was GM), are they going to be able to pull themselves out of it? I'm not convinced they can. I also see some players with ridiculously high shooting percentages. Once those go down, we'll start to see what kind of team this is. Right now, the shooting is simply unsustainable and while I appreciate the heaters some are on, it's going to cover down to earth eventually. In terms of movement, I'm good with seeing Deslauriers, Atkinson, Laughton, Staal, Sandstrom all go. I have no problems if they listen to potential Couturier deals, provided they are already out of the playoffs. I'm not trying to crap on what they're doing because the truth is, Tortorella has worked in a number of younger players into the lineup (Brink, Foerster, Zamula) and he's getting results. At the same time, there's still a lot of work to do. It's too early in the season to determine whether they're ahead of plans or not.
  23. Sanheim is on a whole other level. He gets it and he's made the jump. We should all be thankful Krug turned down coming to Philadelphia. Sanheim might just be worth that contact after all.
  24. Sean Walker has been so good this year. Every GM needs a steal in a trade and Briere did well getting Walker. He really does play a solid game. And can I just add in, Sanheim is in beast mode to start the year. That extra 15 pounds of muscle he put on has been a significant difference maker. He's a completely different player with that added muscle. He might just end up being a legit number one.
