Just read that Regis wanted a 5 year deal, and Pens wanted 3.....I haven't seen what Rutherford got. If Regis lost a GM position over length of contract negotiations, he's a LOT dumber that most of us thought.

Sorry, guys..but I'm not going to revise history. Carter could score when he was in Philly, on and off the ice. And that's all he did...he floated, he didn't back check, he didn't go into the corners, and he sure as hell deserved the reputation he got while a Flyer. The talent was never a question; the heart always was. Maturation is one the keys, as someone said. Saying that...if he had stayed in Philly I'm not sure he develops into the player he is now--for all the reasons we've already beaten to death.

You do realize the lockouts were to correct systems the owners put in place, and that the 2nd lockout was not about lack of revenue, but rather the owners wanted to lower the sharing percentage the NHLPA received? The league revenues are at all time highs. Yes, the playoff expansion would be about revenue, but not because MANY teams are losing money. It's because MANY owners want to maximize their return. Or as some people say...they are greedy.

The problem with Schenn's deal is this: his agent is gonna argue that his "value" is at least $3.1 million, or close to that going forward. He's going to base it on his last contract. Yes, I know that was the Value based on unobtainable performance bonuses. But, if it was one of us, and it was our agent...what would you want the premise to be...the base contract, or the total annual value of the contract? Obviously, the higher of the two. Based on performance, Coots is a great baseline for Schenn. However, if the agent doesn't move off the previous contract AAV, and the Flyers have Coots number in stone as a comparison--this could get messy in a hurry.

I get there are exceptions to the rule, and things may change during the draft, but to ALWAYS have that philosophy.......

Well, I'm going to bring up this debate again, based on this response. SO.....the Best Player Available is a Center..do they? Not a fan of that philosophy, and never will be. "I not really involved in the Draft as a whole. We have scouts for that, but where we pick, we’re going to take the best player available, so I’m not sure if it’s a D-man or forward, but I think we have to take the best player available and that’s what our philosophy is."

I don't know if I'm a fan of another 5/7 game series. Winning 16 games it hard enough, much less the chance that hockey will now be played until July. Preseason, 82 regular season games, and potentially 28-35 playoff games?? I'm curious what the NHLPA will have to say about that. Personally, I think every round should be re-seeded. If higher seeds keep winning, they remain higher seeds that way; which places emphasis on playing well/finishing well in the regular season.

I agree, FC...and for the record, I've bought one Flyers jersey in 20 years...number 18--RICHARDS. I loved the guy when he started in Philly, didn't like him so much when he left. I think he may be a situation/player where the contract, and only the contract, determines his fate. As you pointed out, he plays key minutes, albeit in a different role than in Philly.

I've been reading/seeing that a lot, and in national media outlets--obviously speculation, but it appears to be the case. He's got 5 years at a cap hit of $5.75 million/per. Not many teams other than the Flyers will play that for a center to play 4th line.

Can't argue with any of that. I will add one point that pisses me off when those trades are discussed. People talk like we traded both of them to LA and gifted the Cup to them. Carter was traded to Columbus, which at that time, was NHL Siberia. Richards was traded to LA. 2 different trades, 2 different teams. Carter pouted his way out of C-bus and has thrived in LA. Argue about the trades all you want....but don't forget they were not involved in the same deal. People need to stop revising history about how lopsided the trade was, yada yada yada....it was 2 trades, not 1!!! (Not implying YOU said that Fanatic..just a general observation)

You're right Alaska. Somehow I missed the initial 2 mins to Carcillo--it certainly explains why the linesman was trying so hard to get him off the ice. And like Van said..it's Carcillo, pretty effing hard to defend anything he does.

Carcillo will get what he deserved; he was wrong and should be punished. However, the linesman isn't innocent in this either. He grabs a player that is not involved, hasn't dropped his gloves or stick, and shoves him into the boards. There has to be accountability for that. Heck, there are 2 guys throwing bombs, and he leaves his partner along to break it up. Bad officiating to me...and Carcillo makes it worse by being Carcillo.... Just to further complicate the argument, what happens if that cap is NOT $71 million next year??? Don't forget the little Ass Clown Commission also said it could be $69 million, after adjusting for exchanges rates--or something weird like that. I don't like the contract at all, at $71 million it's hard to justify, at $69 million, it's downright brutal.

My hate for Carter when he was in Philly is well known. His floating, his lazy attitude, his play when I feel like it mentality, etc... All that being said, he is arguably the best forward in LA these days. He plays his butt off, works hard, and is on the ice in key situations. Like @Vanflyer said, Sutter has gotten through to him, Carter has matured, and is a heck of a hockey player right now. And like @murraycraven said...F Carter.

Where did you see/read this? I didn't see it in any articles I read. If he has one, that's pretty darn interesting given all the noise about the KHL/NHL transfer agreements the last several years.
