  1. I just like saying John Stevens, HOF'er. With all the abuse that man took from us over the years, I find it very amusing!
  2. Did anyone post this??? On Nov. 10, 2011, the American Hockey League announced the four people selected for induction into the American Hockey League Hall of Fame as the Class of 2012. Honored by the AHL Hall of Fame Selection Committee as the seventh group of enshrinees are Joe Crozier, Jack Gordon, John Stevens and Zellio Toppazzini. JOHN STEVENS: A tough defensive defenseman, John Stevens was regarded as one of the top blueliners in the AHL during his playing days, and when injury forced him off the ice he found success as a coach as well. A native of Campbellton, N.B., Stevens was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1984 and made his professional debut with the Hershey Bears at the age of 18. His first four pro seasons were split between Hershey and Philadelphia, and he was a member of the Bears’ 1988 Calder Cup championship team. After signing with the Hartford Whalers in 1990, Stevens spent most of the next six seasons in Springfield, where he captained the Indians to a Calder Cup title in 1991. Three years later, Stevens was named the first captain of the Springfield Falcons and scored the first goal in Falcons history – one of just 21 goals he would score in his entire AHL career. He was also selected to be one of the playing captains for the 1996 AHL All-Star Classic, held at his first professional home: Hersheypark Arena. Stevens returned to the Flyers organization in 1996 and was again turned to for leadership on a new club as he was given the captain’s “C” for the first-year Philadelphia Phantoms. The Phantoms finished with the best record in the AHL in their inaugural season, and a year later won the 1998 Calder Cup title. An eye injury ended Stevens’ playing career in December 1998, but he remained with the club as an assistant coach under Bill Barber. Stevens was promoted to the head coaching position in 2000 and spent six seasons at the helm, winning another Calder Cup in 2005. He was promoted to the Flyers in 2006, first as an assistant coach and then as head coach, and is now in his second season as an assistant with the Los Angeles Kings. Stevens has participated in more than 1,400 regular-season AHL games as a player, assistant coach and head coach. His 834 games played are currently ninth-most by a defenseman in league history, and he also ranks 15th all-time with 102 Calder Cup Playoff games played. Stevens is one of 16 men in AHL history to win Calder Cups as both a player and a head coach, a group that includes AHL Hall of Famers Bun Cook, Frank Mathers, Fred Glover, John Paddock, Bruce Boudreau and fellow 2012 inductee Jack Gordon
  3. I don't mind it..I like the old school look. My only issue with the black jersey's is the flyers main color has always been orange on their jersey..personally that they've stayed with that. If I buy one, it will be no numbers/no name. Last one I got, I figured I was safe buying 18...well, we know how that turned out!
  4. FWIW..Green didn't play last night, but I get your point. He is just terrible defensively. I also think it's not a very good idea to you have your #1 D pairing be 2 kids with less than 4 years in the league. Those kids are good, but that's a lot of pressure to put on them.
  5. my 14 yr old has had 1 diagnosed, and probably another one in the last 18 months..he sat for 5 weeks after the "official" one. Baseline testing is a great invention. He also got a new Mission M1 helmet the next day. Point being..if a 14 yr old is getting them..I wouldn't say it's a safe bet, I would say it's a guarantee that most/all NHL players have had one along the way.

    Massive Hit

Wow is right..I just saw the article on tsn.ca.
  7. @Spinorama where "exactly" is Betts? On the roster, getting paid, but not with team?
  8. The Flyers have plenty of re-tread goalies from the last 20 years, and they bust out Mark LaForest. Hell, I forgot the guy even played for the Flyers! Well, not really, but you get my point. Bring back Dave Brown, Glen Cochrane, Daryl Stanley, Behn Wilson, etc...
  9. personally, I would also add Cam Ward to that list. Hell of a run that postseason, but not much since. Not a goalie, but everytime I think of Kaberle's name on the Cup, I want to smash my head into a wall..repeatedly. Man, I hate him...always have. It's that Maple Leaf stench.
  10. Probably has to make a shore run to winterize his house....
  11. Yes. Fire all the things. Fire them twice!! Then a 3rd time to be sure they are gone!
  12. I blame Stevens...then Richards...then Carter. Then Shelley and Hartnell.
  13. At the risk of sounding disrespectul, Mark LaForest???????????
  14. I think Lavy needs to stop tinkering. He's like a mad scientist..always trying to create something. I get the lower lines are struggling, and some of it is injury related. But find a core on each line and let them develop over a few games. If someone needs moved up/down based on injuries, etc...so be it. But to have different line combo's every game has to be frustrating as hell to some guys.
  15. And that's the puzzling part. Players get hot/cold..he just looks lost, and I don't see the effort. The lost part may be on Lavy as he changes lines like we change underwear. The effort part is 100% on JVR and HAS to change.
  16. Agree 1000%, MadDog. It's even more critical that he brings it this year with the offensive losses of Richards, Carter, and Leino. IMO, part of the reasons those trades happened is the Flyers expectation that JVR was taking the next step this year...so far he has regressed from his playoff performance last year.
  17. Welcome to the forum! Great to have you...
  18. Since we are discussing goalies...what are people's thoughts on Lavy' goalie mgmt. I didn't like how he handled things last year down stretch/playoffs, etc...and I think he's made a few "interesting" decisions this year. I would actually argue that his decision to play Leighton last year is 98% of the reason that we got Bryz and his 9 yr deal. I understand Bob and Boosh weren't cutting it down the stretch, but the 3rd goalie blowing up, was really the final straw. Certainly not a major issue, and may never be-but an interesting issue, at least.
  19. I figured 2 games..max. Shanahan is definitely unpredictable so far. I do like that he leans "heavy" on punishments, unlike Campbell. If they want to get that crap out of the game, it's one way to start.
