I'd rather watch a few more years of bad hockey that will eventually lead to great  hockey, then to be mediocre and keep drafting solid players 15-20. Sure you need those players but you also need 2-3 ringers to even have a shot. We won't ever compete for a cup without two legit centers and a couple of high end defensemen. We lost the Cup to the Isles, they had Bossy, Trottier and Potvin, we had Linseman, Propp and Watson. We lost to Edmonton, they had Gretzy and Messier we had Poulin and Sutter. I can keep going, even when we had the Legion of Doom, we had weak defense and goaltending, while the Devils had Steven's and Niedermayer we had Desjardins and Therein. They had Marty we had Hextall. Without high end talent in the key areas, you won't win.

Ask Buffalo and Ottawa fans how they feel about that. Flyer's also were without their top goal scorer Tim Kerr both time they played the Oilers in the finals.  People tend to forget that.

Yes, but none are game changers and until we get that,we will be the same as we've been for years.

How do you know which are game changers though?  How many guys that were drafted outside the top 10 have turned into absolute stars? There's been a lot.  Michkov is a game changer.  I feel pretty comfortable saying that. The draft is such a crap shoot.  It's like playing the stock market. Most stocks won't do crap but once and while you'll find a really good one.  I can tell you right now Chicago, Anaheim, San Jose won't be touching the playoffs for a long time. I would predict 5-6 years. They are that bad. They have drafted a lot of top end talent.  From my understanding this years draft has one game changer. The rest of the first round is pretty meh. So we might as well enjoy watching some good hockey.  Their going to draft a couple good players in the first round. May even add another first rounder at the deadline.  At least I'm enjoying watching them again.

It’s going to suck if that catches up to them not this year but in 1-3 years and the team then realizes they don’t have enough talent.  Now is the time to get that talent.

1-3 years when they have Gauthier and Michkov. I think that's some pretty good top end talent coming through.  Ask Buffalo how all these top end draft picks are working out.  You can draft all the top end talent all you want. If you don't surround them with good Vets and develop them properly it won't matter.  That's one reason I have some faith in the Flyers now. I think they have the right guys in place now to lead this franchise.  I'll take this team any day. They work their asses off and they are actually fun to watch.

Conspiracy talk fits a loser franchise.

"We would have won the lottery, but it's fixed".

"We would have won but the refs were against us."

"We would have won a Cup, but our goaltending."

Chicago played the game the Flyers and their fans wouldn't.  We'll see what they have won in a couple years.

I'm betting they're better than the Flyers inside of two years.  Everyone will point to the lottery, but as I posted a couple weeks ago, they have tons of assets coming and their cap situation will be all fixed by the time they arrive.  They are swollowing their medicine, while the Flyers, like a freaking baby, are trying to spit theirs out.

Not sure if watched much of the Blackhawk’s games this year but they are literally one of the worst teams I’ve seen play. It’s a toss up between them Anaheim. They are a long way away from being good again.  Bedard will help but they have a long way to go.

I could see him wanting his own pool to splash around in.

Well one thing is for sure  Billionaires and movie stars have ego's. They like to own expensive things. Be interesting how it plays out.

Hey, they just need to finance a $1.25B purchase from a company that is making money hand over fist on their investment.

    Should be pretty simple.

Boreanaz has an estimated net worth of ~$70M

    Timonen ~$44M

    Forsberg ~$54M

So unknown guy on the right better be good for about a billion or so. :hocky:

Apparently he is a billionaire.  Is he not part owner of the Sixers and the Devils? That's all I can find out so far.

People act like Hart is 30 years old. He's 24. Goalie's don't hit they're prime until around 27-28.  Some don't see the NHL until 25. I don't get people's logic on Hart. Provy and possibly Hayes will be gone this summer. I don't get the rush why people are trying to trade Hart. He still has one year left on his deal and is still an RFA after.  Goalie's don't usually get huge returns on the market. And the teams looking are usually looking to ad that final piece. They're drafts picks won't be high anyways.

It's not the medical that bugs me. It's the training staff. How many players is that now in the last five years that are getting hip surgery? WTF is McCrossin and company doing because clearly the training plan they're providing players is blowing up on them.

This is not a training staff issue. I've seen hip injuries becoming more common even in the minor hockey world. It's a product of year round hockey training. Most kids have to train year around and do not play other sports.  Playing other sports is crucial to develop other muscle groups.  When you do the same movements over and over your bound to get certain injuries. It's happening with baseball as well. Arm Injuries that would happen to players later in their careers are happening at a much younger age. It all relates back to over use. Even when parents are told don't play year around they won't listen. I've seen it first hand. They believe their kid will fall behind.

He gave Calgary a list of 6 teams he will sign a long term deal with. The Rangers, Devils and Islanders are on the list and what a surprise...the Flyers are not. All three of those teams are way better than us already. Imagine what a thorn in our side he will be. These other teams already will skate circles around as now they can hammer us too. We sure wont he making the playoffs any time soon. Its gonna be a long rebuild.

Apparently that list is completely false. That's the word up here. I'm not sure why people want Tkachuk so bad. Watched him since he came in the NHL. He's not a difference maker. He need goods players around him. He literally wouldn't make a difference for the Flyers next year. The Flyer's need to tank next year. Not try sneak into the playoffs.  The top two picks next year can set a franchise up for the next 10 years.

From what I've seen in mock drafts he won't be there if you trade back.  His value has shot up in the last month. I've seen a couple where he's been ranked 5,6,7.

Honestly, his picks aren’t the issue I don’t think.  His FA signings, particularly resigning Ristolainen, are puzzling.

For the record, Fletcher does nothing for me.  He’s a boring, uninspiring vessel who doesn’t come off as having vision or a thoughtful approach.

One thing for sure Torts is going to want a certain type of line up. Will Fletcher be able to get him that? I just don't think so. Doesn't seem like the type of guy that thinks outside the box. As of right now I would be fine if they handed over the GM job to Briere. He seems to have a handle on todays NHL.

Guess he can’t be blamed if things go south with Torts.  Wonder what this means for Fletcher, though.  Seems he is being a bit undermined here.

Maybe if were lucky he'll be so mad that he will quit before the draft.

Me neither. It just seems too savvy of a move for this management.

Money always talks though.  I golfed with Ken Hitchcock in a tournament years ago. I asked him why chose the Flyers. He said it wasn't his first choice. He was actually going to go back to Dallas but Clarkie backed dump truck full of money on to his lawn and he couldn't refuse.  Kind of funny in the 18 holes I golfed with him Clarkie called him, Roenick called him. I can't even remember how many players called him that day. He said it was funny that people thought Roenick hated him but they were actually buddies away from the rink. Roenick was always calling him for advise.

I think we all know Trotz is not coming to this mess. DeBoer wouldn't be awful, but the coach I would want is Torts because he will kick some @ss. That is severely what this team needs right now.

Trotz has interviewed 3 times in the last week with the Flyers. Two by zoom, one in person. You don't talk three times without having some sort of interest.

Let's say Ellis isn't coming back or is gonna be in and out of the lineup from now on...do we trade for a guy like Chycrun?

In order to have the assets AZ would want, do we trade Provorov to another team for a top young NHL ready player and a first round pick and then add a guy like Frost in a package to AZ for Chycrun? In doing this you are replacing Provorov with Chycrun and losing Frost who can be replaced with somone like Savoie in the draft. So we really are not gutting the team with this type of trade.

I have not seen AZ play at all this year, so I am only going by what I hear about him. Is Chycrun that good and a legit #1 guy? Is he that much better than Provorov, that we should trade Provorov? Anyone who had seen Chycrun play, please add some comments and insight.

We need to keep this team in tact for next year. Resign Thompson and he can the power play for all I care.  Connor Bedards stats as 16 year old - 100 points and 51 goals on a bad team.  I can live with a couple bad seasons if it means getting Bedard.

I would think we probably would draft a LW or Center this year since RW is overloaded. Other than Ratcliffe we don't have many scoring LW prospects. At center we have Frost and O'Brian ,two offensive guys that are not very big. Maybe we draft Geekie or the big LW Slavofsky. At least we have some good young players that are actually contributing right away,  it gives us a reason to watch the last ten games.

The more I read about and watch Savoie play the more I like him. Kid has some serious offensive skill. Something the Flyers are lacking. Kids like Geekie seem to take a long time to develop. That's kind of always been the draw back of drafting a big forward. I don't believe Slavofsky will be around for the Flyers to draft. He's been moving up the draft board rankings. Even pushing Wright for first over all.  They really need to get this draft right.

Well he better get his sh it together he will have competition coming over next season.

Ivan is coming to take someone's job you can bank on this.

I wouldn't bet on it. That sure doesn't look like the speed of the NHL.  Goalie's that come over from the KHL always seem to struggle when they come over here.  Whether it's the speed of the game, the size of the rinks or the quality of shooters. I expect nothing different from him.

Oh trust me with this sh it show they should be in on both this my friend isn't a quick fix....it is years away from being good again....there is a lot of funk that needs to be removed from this roster.

And well let's see when this even begins first before i guess we try to predict the future but they should be in the running of both because at the end of the day they are not good and have so many flaws i would even know where to start the fire if i was going to burn it all down...

Next years draft whoever gets first pick could basically be getting the next super star that could set you up for the next 15 years. I think Bedard is going to be a special player. I've watched him play and he's impressive.

So no practice.....huh....yeah way to get better team....might as well keep this tank going...

Sitting at the 9th draft spot now...no way they can out tank Montreal or Arizona it seems they seem to be all in on Shane Harper....crossing fingers Flyers can get it on that about the only good thing to come of the season....sad to say.

    :BrownBag:

This isn't the draft they need to tank for. It's next years draft they need to tank for. They'll get a fairly high pick this year but next years draft the top two are going to be really good. Bedard or Michkov. Don't think you can go wrong with either.

What I find interesting is we never heard a thing about this until Makar scores two beautiful goals in one week. Not a peep.

I recall one of their scouts saying they had interest in Heiskanen. But Hischier/Patrick were pretty much consensus 1/2 pick in either order.

My guess is one of the key architects in the mismanagement of this franchise is trying to deflect blame.

Really? I've heard the Makar story several times over that last three years. Every time someone would tweet it out people would freak out on them. Definitely wasn't shocked when I listened to that pod cast Clarke was on.  Was a good listen. Clarke had some interesting stories.

  22. What I find interesting is I haven't seen one person come to Hextall's defense yet. Usually when you get a story like this there will always be one person that comes forward and says wait a second it didn't go down like that. But nothing from no one. Unless I'm missing something. But I haven't seen anything on twitter or anything. The only thing I have seen is from former players and employee's saying ya that was common knowledge at the time. What I don't get is why people are so surprised that Clarke would say something. He was asked a question and he answered it. Not like he has ever held back in the past. At least it's some entertainment for the day. Other than this putrid team right now. All we can hope for is a sell off at the deadline and a terrible season next year for a run at Bedard. This team still has some good young pieces to build around.
