  1. So a guy that worked under AV in NY & Vancouver and who clearly likes AV. Brilliant !!!!
  2. So who is behind the bench with Yeo tonight? Homer? Clark?
  3. You have to think Trotz's head is on the block. I also mentioned his assistant Lane Lambert being a good option.
  4. I wouldn't have taken Hart out on that. To be yanked after that and then sit on it is a confidence killer. It's time for AV and crew to go.
  5. Who was the coach and what was his style.... It matters
  6. Agree completely and I wish they would have possession entering the zone more but I have a feeling this is a coaching decision. He's a winger now. I can't see him playing center again - maybe, 3rd line center for a playoff bound team.
  7. With Lane Lambert as Head Coach, Danny Briere as Flyers GM would be interesting. I hate retreads but I wouldn't mind this one. They've been grooming him up here in Portland with the Maine Mariners (ECHL) which is owned by.......Comcast Spectacor. I've seen him a few times walking the stadium. Edit: I didn't realize the Islanders have lost 9 in a row now. Covid definitely played a part. Maybe Trotz will be available and he can bring Lane with him.....hmmmmm
  8. I guess it depends on what teams you are talking about. He's a 2nd pair defensemen with the right partner on a lot of teams. He has the skill, we've all seen it. Sometimes - and I'm hoping it is - a different coach can pull it out of him.
  9. Pretty sure we are the only ones that think we aren't by now buddy This is a great point. Giroux was animated as I've ever seen him. Coaches weren't even involved in the timeout. He was trying to push the team but unfortunately it has 4 flats.
  10. Yea I guess that's how it works. But, to the best of my knowledge, that doesn't happen mid-year. I can't think of any assistant coaches that have been offered a head coach job with another team to which they left mid-year. That would be an off-season move. But I guess to your point, if you are offered a promotion....
  11. Baseball (and my marriage) are the worst. Baseball and Golf are the two best drugs to help me sleep.
  12. Maybe this topic should be split out? "What coach is next..." I'd like to see a younger coach - someone that's been under tutelage of a decent coach on a decent team ideally. Tortorella - I don't like and never have. His style only works for a couple years. Boudreau is to old for me. He's 66. I'd like to go younger..... "new NHL and all". Claude Julien is 61. He kinda sucked with Montreal but with Boston 2007-2014 he was the man. Rick Tocchet - Nope, no more retreads (NMR) Gerard Gallant - 58yrs old. VGK was decent. But with 3 teams, other than that cinderella run with Vegas' first year, he hasn't won a playoff series. Lane Lambert - Islanders assistant coach under Trotz. Since they can't get Trotz, how about Lambert who's learned from Trotz? He's probably my first pick but I don't know how you pry him away. Are there offer sheets for coaches? Nate Leaman, Providence College head coach - I can't imagine they go with another college coach again. Maybe an assistant. Patrick Roy?? So my choice is talk to Lane Lambert about leaving the Islanders at the end of the season.
  13. @vis Welcome back, sorry it's for these circumstances. I was actually looking forward to this season. I could see what Chuck was trying to do and there was a chance (at least I thought) that it could work out. Hayes being out really hurt in the beginning I think and was the linchpin to this whole crumble.
  14. LOL. "The Rangers lapped us" They sold everything and built back up and are now significantly better. That hurts deep.
  15. To be far, the injuries are mounting up: Brown, Ellis, Morin, Laczynski, Allison, Foerster, Couturier, JVR, Farabee, Lindblom, Brassard, Koncecny, Thompson... Hayes is probably 80%
  16. While I agree some of this is corporate greed the other piece is the changing times. If a business doesn't change, they die as you know. The younger generations require constant "entertainment" and quite frankly with the number of stoppages in a hockey game, it doesn't give it to them. I have two kids 12 & 8 who watch games with me from time to time. The oldest said the other night "it feels like they don't play more than they play" along with "why are do they stop all the time". Well, the kid has a point. Here's the rough math: ~3 commercial breaks each period @ 2:00 each = 18:00 ~60 faceoffs @ ~ 0:20 each? = 20:00 2 intermissions @ 18:00 each = 36:00 ===== 74 minutes of non-hockey vs 60 minutes of hockey ====== The average length of a game is 2:20-2:40 so my math is a little off but not by much. Quite frankly, without the non-hockey entertainment, the sport is doomed as us old-diehards go senile. So while I understand exactly what you are saying, I completely understand it. Don't get me started on the NFL (which I've stopped watching completely).
  17. I cant turn it off now. It's like watching a car crash. I'll say 5-1 or 6-1. JVR scores with less than 2 minutes left.
  18. Not sure I blame the first on Hart. Wish he would have gotten the 2nd though. Team looks lost.
  19. Thankfully the USMNT qualifiers have filled in nicely. EPL and champions league is taking the edge off also. I'll still watch every flyers game like have the past 20 years but I've stopped taking my yearly trip to PA to watch them. It's just not worth it the last 4-5 years IMO.
  20. Hart can't be moved. That's the largest piece that was missing for the past decade Giroux was "phenomenal". Imagine if Hart was in net for the past decade - it's arguable - but there might have been a cup in there, especially 2010. It's also the hardest position to find quality in and they finally have it. In fact, they might (maybe, could) have two based on the small sample size of Sandstrom's .929 SV% / 2.24 GAA in his last 10. IMO - On the block is anyone over 25. If there is going to be a rebuild it needs to be all in this time. Not mediocre like last time. Let's get a top 5 pick for 2-3 years and gather as many picks as possible. **** it, let's pull a 'penguin'. Up for trade are: A Grade: Couturier, Giroux (NMC), Atkinson (M-NMC) B Grade: Lindblom, Laughton C Grade: Hayes (Contract $ limitations & M-NMC) D Grade: JVR (Buyout) I'm okay with forming a team around guys that are 25 and under. Again, if this all were to happen we are still 3 years away from being 2 years away. Forwards: Konecny (24), Farabee (21), Allison (24), MacEwen (25), Wisdom (19), Foerster (19), Frost (22), Ratcliffe (22), Laczynski (24) Defense: Provorov (24) York (20), Sanheim (25), Zamula (21), Wylie (22), Hogberg (23), Bunnaman (23), (I actually like Ristolainen too but..) Goalies: Hart (23), Sandstrom (24), Ersson (22)
  21. Frost won't learn anything more in the AHL. If he is going to meet his potential he needs to get quality (12+) minutes per game in the NHL. There comes a point when players need to play against better competition to get better. Over the next 1-2 years we'll see if Frost makes the progression to meet his potential.
