    You're right, of course.

But then you have a player looking at $7.5M and "could get" (sake of argument) $10M and over the course of an 8 year contract that's $20M which, after all, is

    TWENTY MILLION DOLLARS

Some people might have a hard time giving that up.

(Not saying TK wants/deserves/has been offered such)

Looking at it that way, makes complete sense.   I was looking at it through my eyes were 7.5 x 6 = 45m.  Invest that the 'right' way and he can make the additional 20m while he's playing those 6 years.   To you and me, 45m vs 60m is a very small difference when it is managed 'correctly'.

    Heck even Marchand signed for $6.1 - on a team-friendly deal with a M-NTC.

^This.   No reason TK should be asking for $10m.  At most 7.5m at 6 years in my opinion.

How much money is enough for someone?  If he wants to win a cup, his AAV comes down so they can get higher quality players.

  3. @J0e Th0rnton

Something like that happened to me when I was younger.  I won't get into it but thankfully I convinced her to tell the truth as it was alienating me from everyone I knew.  I do understand why women's words are more trusted then men's though.  History doesn't lie.  On the flip side, It's sad that both sides aren't heard before judgements are passed.  The pendulum is swinging too far maybe.

Having two teenage daughters makes me shutter just thinking about the experiences that they hopefully will never have.

  4. So, here's a question.   Let's say Carter is found guilty and (I admit I don't know the whole story) Hockey Canada is thought to have to have tried to cover this up previous to the Flyers drafting Carter, will the Flyers Organization sue Hockey Canada for loss of revenue?    Not sure they can get a draft pick in compensation as the NHL wasn't involved.

See, if it was a 1st, a 3rd and Brink, I'd do it. No to Konecny. No to Hart.

This.   1st, 3rd and Brink.  No problem.  Don't think it gets it done though.

Hart nor Konecny in this proposed trade however, I would be okay with trading either/both for the right deals.

If the team isn’t selling on UFAs (and maybe some others) at the deadline, it is a huge mistake.

The assumption is that selling at the deadline gets you more assets.   And if that's correct and the assuming the offer is at least decent, not selling Sealer AND Walker at the deadline would be a huge mistake and more of the same type of 'management' they've had for too long.

TK can get you three assets in a trade especially when he scores 40 this year. Nobody on the team is getting us anything close to that. RW is our deepest position, so if you can get a really good young center and more,  it just quickens the rebuild by a few years. Drafting another Brian Laughton with the 20th pick isn't gonna help us at all.

Help me.  I googled but couldn't find a Brian Laughton.

Other players to win top forward at the WJs...

Ryan Poeling, Max Domi, Jesse Poolparty, Victor Tikhonov. Igor Grigorenko, Alexis Lefreniere (as a 17 year old) Casey Mittelstadt....over the last 20 years...none of these guys became big deals in the NHL.

In addition to Carey Price, Tuukka Rask, Drew Doughty, Erik Karlsson, Evgeni Malkin, Alexander Ovechkin, RNH, Zach Werenski, ....

Arguably there are more 'well-known' names on that list than not.

And so another young D-man escapes the Flyers organization. Good for him. For the Flyers who cares.

You lost me at D-man  :)

I really thought Issac would pan out and he still might.  The preds obviously sees something in him and right now, I trust the Preds org wayyyyy more than the Flyers org.  Just on that metric alone, my guess is he turns into a serviceable 3/4 liner.

  10. I am wondering what does make GM 'qualified' other than already being a GM previously.   Seriously, I'm wondering.

If Briere, who -  (1) Played in the NHL for 15 years (successfully and wasn't a goon)  (2) Rose the the ranks to GM a ECHL team (successfully - isn't qualified, which person is (assuming they weren't a GM previously.

Haha no this is your view based on your conviction (I’d say speculation) that the Flyers can’t reach their prime in the next 5 years. I’m speculating too but in the other direction. I believe they can get there, and quicker than half a decade, but I’m not convinced they will.

So in simplest terms, you think during this "transformation" (not rebuild) the team reaches their prime (best chance years for a cup) within the next 5 years.  And I think they are approaching their prime in year 5.    Glad we got that sorted out!

I wish there was a way to put a reminder on posts like a calendar system.   That way you could mark it to remind you so many days in the future to remind you to come back to see who was right about predicting what will happen in the future.  @hf101, @radoran@yave1964 - quick, someone implement that code please.

As for now Grateful poster, if we are still spinning 5 years from now we'll come back to this conversation.
