  1. Let's be realistic. We are seeing exactly what we expected to see before the season began. Even with everybody healthy, we knew the Flyers would be struggling mightily. Add not having JVR, Atkinson, and Couturier, and on paper, this is arguably the worst NHL team today. Frankly, they are overperforming gigantically at this point in the season. Carter will keep them in many games, but the Toronto game is what we should really start expecting to be more of a regularity. Fletch set them up to fail... No two ways about it.
  2. Still not sure how they pulled this one off. Last year, this would have been a loss. But Hart is playing out of his mind right now.
  3. What trash? Your team is playing well right now. And so are the Flyers. But the key words here are RIGHT NOW. It's a long season...
  4. Sadly, the Flyers can't simply forget about him. He is carrying an annual cap hit of a bit north of $5 mil. And our moronic GM gave up and arm and leg to bring him in. So we might as well use him. I still think if leveraged correctly, he still has a place on this team. For all the bashing he got in Phily, when he is on his game, he provides a physical presence. He hits, he blocks shots, he is strong along the boards. If he would only do all this consistently, he could make the Flyers a tougher team to play against. And he does have some offensive skills. I really think he could be an asset. If there is anybody who can get the most out of this guy it's Tortz.
  5. Slim pickings... Doesn't matter. Flyers' inapt management doesn't have cap room for anything...
  6. But how is it possible? I am not trying to be smart; I am genuinely perplexed... How can they like it? How can *anybody* who has even a semblance of a clue can watch this sheer nightmare unfolding and think he is doing a good job? How can it be?
  7. For comparison, Yzerman signed Oli Maata, David Perron, Andrew Copp, Kubalik, and Ben Chiarot. And Fletch signed a 4th liner Deslauries and the returnee Justin Braun. I mean... Why does this incompetent clown still have a job? How can the Flyers ownership be OK with this?
  8. Fletch is a poster child for how to build a losing franchise. The guy is a joke.
  9. I seriously hate this team right now.
  10. I am good with this acquisition. He is one of the best offensive d-men in the league. Yes, he is not the best defensively, but it's not like we are talking Karl Dykhuis here. Pair him with a stay-home d-man and I bet you will not even notice his defensive mishaps. With 1.5 points per 60 minutes last year ranks him 8th among all d-men in 2021-2022, sharing the company with the likes of Cale Makar, Fox, Carlson, Josi, Devon Towes, and Hedman. And he is only 26 years old with huge ceiling. Now... I don't like DeAngelo as a person. I don't know which sane person would... He is a bigot and seems to actually take pride in this. So the Flyers' character is taking a dent here. But in terms of a player, this is an immediate and undeniable upgrade. We all know how abysmal the Flyers' blueline looked last year.
  11. This would look like a logical plan on the surface except for the fact that it's the Flyers we are talking. This roster is beyond patching, which would qualify as a long-term project. And the Flyers don't really have a good track records with long-term projects. Plus, I don't think Torts is the type of coach who fits well into a rebuilding mold (if he Flyers even decide to go that route).
  12. Fletch needs to fix this train wrack of a roster first. It's like keeping firing mechanics, one after another, after they fail to make a car without any workable parts run. This organization is so dysfunctional that it's not even funny anymore.
  13. You know, I've actually suspected that for quite some time. Your writing, and analysis in general, is on a professional level. It's almost unfair to the rest of us here. But seriously, I always enjoy reading your comments.
  14. It can go either way... hard to project. But one thing I want to say is that it's really easy to underestimate how unbelievably consistently good this Tampa team has been over the last 3 years. I really believe what we are witnessing is a dynasty and maybe one of the best teams in the NHL of all times.
  15. I don't recall which of the non-keeper leagues I was before... Could have been Conn Smythe, but I don't remember. Just decided to take a one-year break. Might come back next year if there will be openings.
  16. I gave you all a big brake by not participating in this league this year. Use this time wisely to sharpen your skills as I am coming back next year.
  17. It's a good problem to have, but assuming both him and Talbot are 100% heathy come playoff time, I don't envy Evason as this will be a really tough decision to make. At eth very least, I think Kahkonen should be rotating with Talbot the rest of the way instead of playing only on the one of the back-to-back nights. He has deserved that much.
  18. I heard.... For the first and second round picks. We are all set.
  19. Let them throw Jack Quinn in, and I would listen. Oh, wait, I forgot, we have Fletch as the Flyers' GM. Never mind then.
  20. And that's the thing, too. Unless they can make a gigantic push in the 2nd half of the season, they almost have no shot at the playoffs. The teams learned how to be successful against them: shut down their two-headed monster, and you have a decent shot at winning the game. If only he can stay away from his regular foolishness, Kane will bring attitude and make the Oilers hard to play against. And they don't tie a boatload of cash into this. Nothing ventured, nothing gained....
  21. Well, Samsonov seemed to be falling out of favor with Lavy for quite some time. And from this, I am guessing they don't have much faith in Vanecek, either. So I can see why the Caps would want to upgrade that position. But this is a big hit to the salary cap. Plus, I don't think it's a long-term investment since MAF is not a spring chicken. I also don't think the Caps are contenders this year, which is what this trade would lead us to think. If they are so down on both of their goalies, why not bring the kid slowly and see what he can do first? They have a decent prospect in Zach Fucale in the system. All in all, doesn't make sense.
  22. But one year is not such a big risk and it won't burden their cap too bad. This may actually be a low risk-high award type of signing. I mean I don't see why not...
  23. And in the process, to be complete, let's also throw in some prospects and 2nd round draft picks to trade for Taylor Hall and Zach Parise.
  24. Just so I am clear. So Hayes is part of the "core", but their best d-man (Provorov) and young, premiere goalie (Hart) are not part of this "core"? Hmmmm. Where could I possibly get an idea that maybe - just maybe - this organization [how should I put it] doesn't have the first damn clue what it's doing? Just wondering - why would I think that?
