  1. The last time the Islanders were demonstrably offsides, the officials ignored the evidence and gave the Flyers a penalty instead. I guess it made them gun shy.
  2. Tony, Al and Mike are sitting down for dinner. Plates of food are set down in front of Mike and Al. Tony says "But Tony is hungry also!" Mike and Al, with food in front of them, declare "We're all hungry!" They eat and then they shoot Tony. Maybe you want to rethink your narrative or develop some empathy.
  3. I want to eventually see a picture of young "Gavers" sitting in the Stanley Cup, yes I do.
  4. Absolutely, we should never be hoping for a correct offsides call vs. the Islanders, even if we "deserve" a payback. So here's my new narrative: the Islanders expended so much energy to come back, only to be defeated, while the Flyers took the third period off. This means the Flyers should coast to an easy victory on the second half of the back to back. Yeah, that's the ticket.
  5. Well, fellas, that was more excitement than I needed for a Wednesday afternoon. Or maybe the exact right dose.
  6. In this day and age, why don't they have high speed cameras to determine offsides? The all telling frame that shows the Islanders were indeed offsides is missing. I take it back, the frame IS there. The puck is about 6" into the zone just as the leaving Islander's skate touches the blue line: Offsides.
  7. Is Leon Stickle still alive? My bladder has a longstanding date with his grave.
  8. Redhook Long Hammers while the sun is up, and then... the scotch is gone... the tequila is gone... rum it is!
  9. All they have to do is get 9 goals in their next 25 power plays (~36%) to catch up to their regular season average.
  10. The two tripping penalties against the Flyers weren't just soft, they were complete fabrications. Webber crosschecking Couturier to the ice was about as blatant example as you're going to get. In a previous game, Ghost gets a holding penalty for merely "hover handing" a Hab with no contact, and in today's game they were letting all kinds of holding go. Do I want consistency in officiating? Yes. Do I expect it? Not anymore. The Habs are getting called for more penalties than the Flyers, but at least they are legit calls, unlike the phantom infractions the Flyers were called for. Damn, I got right into the spirit of ref bashing, even after a win. Getting salty in my early dotage, I am.
  11. I don't remember Lindbergh's personality off-ice, if the whole driving a Porsche into a church was wholly unexpected or not. I do remember being shocked as Hell, stunned like the rest of the Philly faithful.
  12. You, too? I beat you back here by only a couple of hours. I was cleaning out my bookmarks... and found this shiny old place. Who'd a thunk Hockey in August would bring us crawling out of the woodwork?
  13. Once the high of consecutive shutouts has worn off a bit, I'll go back and catch up with this thread and see if anyone has taken up the slack complaining about the lopsided officiating. Another "trip"?! Those weren't trips! for example. Just cleaning up bookmarks, and there this site was, waiting for me to rekindle!
  14. I once was lost, but now am found... I've missed you guys! Just in time to watch the Flyers finish off the Habs and then probably take on the Islanders.
  15. ...two seasons of Lupul which turned into one quarter of Chris Pronger for a 170 or so games (including one improbable and bittersweet fun to the Finals.) One missed shot by Carter and a Game 7 epic away from that trade being worth it.
  16. But $12,000,000 a year each? One third of the cap eaten by just two contracts!
  17. ...Hextall would be immediately be annointed the Anti-Holmgren, actually accumulating 2nd round picks!
  18. It's almost as if the mods don't trust the members to post where they meant to post in the first place. Thirty five hundred topics in the Flyers section of the forum are more than all other topics and subtopics combined. Over 77 thousand comments in the Flyers section are almost twice as many as all the other comments combined - and a good many of them originated in the Flyers' forum but were moved. I appreciate the effort by the modmins to broaden the appeal to other fan bases, but the fact remains that the vast majority of this site's "constituency" and contributers are Flyers' fans, and here is where I check first for the topic(s) I'm interested in. At least redirected threads are identified, and not just apparently "disappeared." Thanks to everyone, this is a great place to come to discuss all things Hockey... but mostly the Flyers.
  19. But his eye was twitching something fierce when he said it, and he had all his toes crossed, so take the "sincerity" with a grain of salt.
  20. Except that Hartnell has way more goals, way more assists, a way better +/- and, er, waaaaay more PIMs.
  21. There is no one on the Flyers (at the moment) that can replace Hartnell as a top line agitator. And the affect upon Giroux at losing his sometime line mate and full time buddy can't be yet evaluated. I wasn't glad when they traded Umberger away in the first place, but I don't think this makes up for it. Ah, well, thanks Scotty, have a good rest of your career.
  22. I guess the Stanley Cup Finals doesn't have the "pageantry" or "epicness" of the Superb Owl (not allowed to call it the Super Bowl without expressed written permission from the NFL...dammit! now I'm gonna get sued) because that's a one and done game, but these games do represent the pinnacle of the toughest, bestest, most glorious championship in all of modern human sports. The Redskins in 1988 showed that it only takes a modest four game winning streak and two otherwise pedestrian players having the game -no- quarter of their lives to win the American football championship (don't get me wrong, I love football, but I understand the perspective difference between the two sports.) Hockey takes SIXTEEN wins, potentially 28 games played in the post season to achieve a final victor. Basketball... take five minutes to play the final 30 seconds, put the ball through the basket fifty times and still not win?!? Nope. Soccer, take 90 minutes plus "mystery time", never put the ball into the net, and somehow win 0-0?!? Wake me up so I can say "Nope." While I don't really follow baseball, I can appreciate the strategy and gamesmanship, particularly in the National League (DH is for pansies.) The World Series is a special name. But can anyone describe what the actual trophy (banner, plate, etc.) looks like? Surely nothing as iconic as Lord Stanley's Trophy. I watched a lot of Hockey this post season, and was disappointed the Flyers couldn't manage one last rally at the end of their game 7 vs Rangers. We all feel confident the Flyers would have handled the Penguins easier than the Rangers did, and the Canadiens were spent after beating the Bruins. So close to it being the Flyers getting stomped by the Kings! So yes, I am enjoying the best championship finals in all of sports, even if it winds up being a sweep of the hated Rangers.
  23. I thought for sure you were going to allude to the rule that the Flyers must part with a second rounder as part of any major trade.
  24. A moment of remembrance.... Thanks for sharing that.
