  1. With the Draft quickly approaching lets take a trip down memory lane to remember the one who didnt PRAN out The 2005 Entry draft was quite the draft year with the crop of talented players it brought to the table most of the players are now stars on the team that drafted them or were traded later on and became stars somewhere else, most notably the ones who were picked in the latter stages of Round 1 and in later rounds those players include: James Neal TJ Oshie Paul Statsny Martin Hanzal Jonathan Quick Tuukka Rask etc *Note all these players were drafted after Buffalo picked The Buffalo Sabres scheduled with the 13th Overall pick in round 1 and with the tactical mind of Darcy Regier leading the charge to hopefully snag another gem to develop and than bring up when his time has come to shine with the blue and gold, Darcy Regier selects from the Chicoutimi Sagueneen of the QMJHL, Marek Zagrapran.. Marek Zagrapran had a dominant campaign in QMJHL so one could see where the idea had stemmed from in selecting this Slovakian born Centre, amassing in 118 Games Played, 67Goals 102 assists for a total of 169 points in 2 years in the QMJHL. He recorded 17 points in 17 games during the 2005 QMJHL Playoffs, and his 11 goals were second only to Sidney Crosby (14). Zagrapran spent the better part of his whole stint as a Sabre prospect after signing on for his entry-level 3 year deal he played all 3 years in the minors with the Rochester Americans and 1 season when the affiliate changed over to the Portland Pirates. Zagrapen tallied, 227 Games, 56 Goals, 71 Assists and 127 Points (seventh on the team) Zagrapan's agent, ex Sabre Defenceman Petr Svoboda got him a deal in 2009 to play in the KHL for Severstal Cherepovets. The deal was initiated for what is stated as a lack of opportunity to move up to the NHL level and play for the Sabres, Zagrapran did not get a lick of NHL time (points issue) which is fairly uncharacteristic of the Sabres to not give their first round draft pick a chance to play at NHL level let alone even just a few games to see how he can play. Zagrapran moved on to the KHL for 2 years of his 3 year contract he played for 2 different teams Severstal Cherepovets and Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk talling a total of 69 Games Played, 13 Goals, 8 Assists, 21 Points. Playing in the CzechExtraliga in 2012-2013 for HC Trinec the 26 year old centre has putterd off talling a total of 40 Games Played, 5 Goals, 9 Assists, 14 Points. According to Hockey`s Future Marek Zagrapran weighed in with a 6.0 talent score and D in success. ``Although he is blessed with undeniable skills, his maturity and effort have been serious issues. His skating ability, balance, and quick hands led the Sabres to pick him 13th overall in 2005. He has not lifted his game in the past two seasons with Rochester to become the offensive force that Buffalo projected. His mental makeup and lack of consistency make Zagrapan a big question mark.`` - Hockey`s Future.
  2. I dont normally post on other teams fourms but hey, its worth the laughs it brings
  3. Buffalo officially eliminated form playoffs for the second season in a row and 4th time in the last 6 years. Sabres get defeated 8-4 by the hands of the New York Rangers, Brad Richards scored a hat trick and the game was over within a span of 2:58 in which 5 count it 5 goals were scored. 2 goals were deflected off skates of Defencemen Adam Pardy and Christian Ehrhoff, goal #3 was a complete screw up as Miller whiffed on a clearing attempt and the goal was left as a gift for Ryan Clowe who was barring down on Miller. Here's the goal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxTxgPsEy8M&feature=player_embedded Miller received another Bronx cheer before Anton Stralman scored 1:13 into the second period, the last goal before he was yanked. Earlier in the period, the former Vezina Trophy winner sarcastically saluted the crowd by waiving after he played the puck. The cheer was alla Patrik Roy So could this be Millers last game in the blue and gold? would you start Enroth the last 3 games of the season?
  4. @Pegulaville26 So many good goalies in the system right now in Makarov, Hackett, Enroth (assuming Sabres resign him or get RFA type return for him, he still has lots of upside) and Leggio whos on fire for the Amerks right now.. Miller most likely wont be missed once he's dealt in the summer
  5. @jammer2 The picks came out like an hour later thats why they were not mentioned, Hackett almsot wasnt even mentioned.. Darcy saved his bacon with this trade
  6. Hockeys Future lists the prospects potential Johan Larrson Talent Score: 7.0 - Probability of success B Matt Hackett Talent Score: 7.5 - Probablity of success C
  7. Min/Buf trade: Sabres send Jason Pominville and a 4th in '14 to the Wild for Johhan Larsson, Matt Hackett a 1st in '13 and a 2nd in '14. Is the final details on the Sabres and the Wild trade that broke today. Pominville who skated his last game last night versus the Pittsburgh Penguins will forver been known as the guy who ended the series against Ottawa in 2006 sending Buffalo to the East Finals to play Carolina. Relive the short handed magic as called by none other than Buffalo's own Rick Jeanneret G Matt Hackett (Selected by Minnesota Wild round 3 #77 overall 2009 NHL Entry Draft) http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=100341 RW Johan Larrson (Selected by Minnesota Wild round 2 #56 overall 2010 NHL Entry Draft) http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=127786
  8. The Buffalo Sabres defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 and ended their 15 game win streak (which if the Penguins won 2 more games they would of tied the NHL record they set back in the 90s with 17 ) in what was a very solid team performance. Kevin Porter notched 2 goals and almost had his first hatty on a 2 on 1 rush Porter capped on 2/3 shots. Porter stat pack earned him first star of the game honors G: 2 SHOTS: 3 A: 0 HITS: 1 PTS: 2 PIM: 0 +/-: 2 TOI: 11:16 Steve Ott and Cody Hodgson also scored for Buffalo, which won for the first time in five games. Amid speculation he could be traded before Wednesday afternoon's deadline, Sabres captain Jason Pominville had two assists and was a plus-3. Ryan Miller made 19 saves during his 492nd game for the Sabres, breaking the franchise record for appearances by a goalie. Interim head coach Ron Rolston had this to say "In order to break the streak against a team like this, you have to play really well," Buffalo interim coach Ron Rolston said. "And we hadn't done that to date in terms of a 60-minute game. I think I'll enjoy that the most." The Sabres are still in the race for 8th and final playoff spot but with the season quickly coming to a close, the Sabres pretty much need to get all the points they can get and not give up games they are winning (ie Capitals game a few games back) whole way through which may be a tough task with the expectd fire sale to happen as assets have been starting to be traded off So do the Sabres have what it takes to make it to 8th and play the Penguins in the first round? will they have the assets needed to make a deep playoff run? only time will tell
  9. Regehr officaly a member of the LA Kings after passing medical tests. Sabres now have gained 3 second round picks, is it time to make a moves for roster players for current immediate and long term help or wait till free agency and stack up on more picks/prospects? through trades of Pominville, Miller, Stafford etc
  10. Tuesday Carolina placed Jussi Jokinen on waivers and teams had till noon today to claim him or not, well nobody did that not even the Sabres who despite Jokinen having only 10pts in 30 games is a 3mil cap hit for 1 more year after this year and could of benefited I think from a change of scenery from Carolina because of the crop of talent that team currently has (Skinner, Faulk, E.Staal, J.Staal, (Jared Staal on the up and coming) Semin, etc).. I for one think the Sabres should not of passed up this opportunity to grab a FREE player from the waiver wire as I stated he is only a 3 mil cap hit next year and for the rest of this year the Sabres can afford that they have $5,656,335 in cap room plus the deadline is approaching and the Sabres will likely sell some more assets to make even more cap room. There is no reason I think the Sabres should of passed up this opportunity to get a player who can definitely help out in the goal scoring department he would probably be better addition than Ville "cant score a goal" Leino although I still believe Leino will turn it around and become a better player for the Sabres. Jokinen's best seasons are as follows:(Year-Games Played-Goals-Assists-Points,Team) 1) 2009-10: 81-30-35-65 (Carolina Hurricanes) 2) 2005-06: 81-17-38-55 (Rookie in Dallas) 3) 2010-11: 70-19-33-52 (Carolina Hurricanes) 4) 2006-07: 82-14-34-48 (Dallas Stars) 5) 2011-12: 79-12-34-46 (Carolina Hurricanes) Jokinen is by no means a bad or lazy player or at least from what I heard he can really bring an offensive punch to a team that clearly can use any sort of boost possible right now as this team doesnt have very much going for it right now taking a chance on Jokinen would of defienetly been a welcomed addition to the team. Jussi Jokinen if you didnt know in Dallas was a wizard of the shootout and he could of be that deciding factor when the game needs to be won or tied up for the Sabres when they get into shootout troubles. Jokinen went 9 for 9 one year and he scored some dazzlers in his shootout career here is a top 5 video I found. What say you buffalo? Pass or Fail?
  11. Tonight should of been the night that Kaleta returns to the lineup but head coach Ron Rolston has other ideas making him a healthy scratch for tonight's game versus the Capitals. Kaleta said in an interview that Asked after today's skate how he feels, Kaleta said this: “I’m (ticked) off. I want to play,” Kaleta said. “And especially after watching some things, sitting there watching the game, I want to play.” http://video.sabres.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=668&id=222547&cmpid=embed-share-video Ron Rolston's take on sidelining Kaleta http://video.sabres.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=1373&id=222552&cmpid=embed-share-video Kaleta knew what he had done to Richards was wrong and Kaleta has paid his dues for his punishment so he does have every right to be pissed off. Head coach Ron Rolston says he likes the line ups the way they are therefore Kaleta will not play, Rolston goes on to say he cant think of any other guys to take out in order to play Kaleta What do you think about Kaletas reaction to the supplementary, supplementary discipline handed out to him by Ron Rolston?
  12. New Jersey Devils -> La Kings -> Florida Panthers -> Buffalo Sabres... to be more percise..
  13. TJ Brennan traded to the Florida Panthers for a 5th round pick in this upcoming draft the draft pick was once property of the La Kings.
  14. Last night Rookie Brain Flynn scored his first NHL goal to give the Sabres a 2-0 lead against the Devils and Enroth was 66 seconds away from recording his first victory in over a month but than it went to hell...Under four minutes later, Adam Henrique spoiled Enroth’s shutout on the power play. Henrique’s initial shot was blocked by Mike Weber, but not to be denied Henrique grabbed the rebound and fired a wrist shot past Enroth. With time winding down, the Devils pulled Hedberg for the extra attacker. David Clarkson’s shot was stopped by Enroth, but Patrick Elias drove the slot to bury the rebound into the wide open net to tie the game with 18:54 remaining in the period. The devils eventually won in a shootout 2-0 on goals from Clarkson and Elias, Pominville had a chance in OT but clanked it off the post. Brain Flynn was by far the best player on the ice last night and my feelings about this game is listed in the video link below..
  15. @flyercanuck Yeah, Vanek, Miller, Pominville all end next year its crazy
  16. exactly, and it only took to playing hockey back in austria to figure out hey Im awesome, he eneds to go back there more often and by often I mean every year..
  17. The Sabres have won their 3rd straight game with a 4-3 win over the New Jersey Devil in a shootout. The Sabres have a winning streak!!! for the first time all year the Sabres have won 3 in a row it was a rough start under interm head coach Ron Rolston and many wondered if coaching was actually the problem in Buffalo as the Sabres fell 3-1 to the leafs and than 4-0 to the Islanders but the Sabres bounced wining in Florida and Tampa Bay. This game saw Hecht yes HECHT! score on a nifty backhander and Pominville notched 2 goals. In the last 3 games the Sabres scoring seems to have spread around the roster a little bit getting goals from Hodgson, Myers, Gerbe(2 against Florida), and Ennis. The mood should deffiently be a little happier in the room nowa days with the team winning. Sabres fans hoping Vanek returns back to the lineup when the Sabres take on the the New York Rangers and their newly reunited doom line of Nash-Richards-Gaborik on the road Sunday night at the Garden, if the Sabres can win this and push the streak to 4 this team may have regained the confidence it needs to at least dig themselves out of the 14th place hole they dug with 26 games to go.
  18. The Sabres lose again this time 2-1 over the Winnipeg Jets which has finally got me to my breaking point, the Sabres need to change! or just tank the rest of the season and get a top 5 draft pick its a lock shortened season who the hell cares!! If the Sabres arent gonna smarten up and turn this thing around just tank already . Anyway now that that is out of the way..... Everyone is screaming for a coaching/gm change and personally I am getting to the point where I am agreeing, the waiting for them to fix things is over its time to bring in a new crew with fresh ideas on how to help Mr Pegula execute his plan to winning a stanley cup.. Its time for the Winds of Change to blow.. GM - To replace Darcy Regier who would you get? In essence the first thing that comes to mind would be recently revoked of GM duties Brain Burke because of his track record of getting really good players for basically guys with slighty average talented players (nikals hagman) mind you he did ship off Luke Schenn for JVR but really who won that trade? the Flyers needed a D-man to fill Prongers void because he really probably isnt coming back anytime soon and JVR has worked wonders so far in Toronto (8G 3 A = 11pts and a +4 rating) through 16 games. Coach - Your following include Craig Mctavish and Guy Carbonneau, Marc Crawford. My personal prefernce is Mactavish of the 3 as his season with Oilers in their cup run in 06 speaks for its self i'm sure he would love to put together a team that will just crush the Hurricanes every time they faceoff against them.. Mactavish who with the 8th seeded Oilers trounced through the Redwings(4-2), The Sharks(4-2) and at the time the Mighty Ducks (4-1) by which he employed the trap system which helped neutralize most of their top tier offense juggernauts. HAVE YOUR SAY! Who should replace Darcy and Lindy?
  19. The Sabres have been the recieving end of mass criticisim due most in part to their incosistency this season (mostly by "Sabres Fans") to be able to string a buyable winning streak that has Mr Pegulas motives for the Sabres being a contender in jepordy. The Sabres have been the most inconsistent consistent team in the NHL this year, win 2 games, than lose 2-3 games which has plumeted to last in the Northeast division,12th in the conference, and 24th in the league. Sabres (6-9-1) with 13pts on the year so far are 3pts back of the Senators (8th), 6pts behind the leafs (6th) 7pts behind the Canadiens (5th) and 8 pts behind the Bruins (3rd). Sure the Sabres have no perfromed the way we expected them to when the Sabres got tougher in the offseason but key assests just clearly not have shown up to play to help balance out the scoring prowess the Sabres truly possess. Its been the Vanek, Pominville and Miller show all season long, players like Stafford only having 1 goal this far into the season is not what we were expecting when we signed him to the 3/yr 12million dollar contract he signed (4mill per year) there are other notables that need start putting more pucks into the net such as young stars Ennis, Gerbe, Folgnio and Grigorenko. The players do have a few goals to their name but are being paid to score at a much more productive pace than they currently are. The Sabres are a much more deadlier team when all those players (minus Grigorenko although he should be proving why we are keeping him up in the big leagues) are firing on all cylinders every night. Ville Leino who we have not yet to see since the end of game 1 of the season has been injured, would the team be better if he wasnt injured? was last season just a flukey 1st year? Hodgson has something to prove this year if he wants an extended stay in Buffalo entering his last year of his contract. Something is wrong in Buffalo and the fans want something to be done to right the ship that has caused the Sabres to not be even the slightest bit of a contender so far this year. If you were GM for a day what would you do??
  20. According to report on twitter the Sabres have given an offer of 4 years 30million to RW Shane Doan @theScore: Report: Sabres offer RW Shane Doan a 4-year / $30 million contract. http://t.co/cLOybhzK Is there anything the Sabres won't do to improve their team? All that's left is the waiting game to see if he wi sign as in the report the Couotes want him on a 2 year deal This I a significant move for buffalo as it gives the a veteran winger who can still be a potent threat in scoring and have playoff experience making it all the way to the west finals with the yotes this past year Thoughts?
  21. If any of you have a twitter account you may or may not follow an annomoys user by the name of hockey insider who claims to have many sources giving him details on transactions going around the nhl. It has lead to people to calling him fraud and he is just merely speculating only he knows for sure if he is legit or not.. In the latest installment of his rumor round ups he stated a few days ago that the Sabres and the Blackhawks have rengaged in talks of a Ryan Miller for Patrik Kane deal and added 2 other pieces maybe in play included were Drew Stafford and Corey Crawford and some picks... It played out like this: Hockeyy Insiderr ‏@HockeyyInsiderr Just got confirmation from a 3rd source that talks regarding "a trade centered around Miller and Kane" are 100% back on! #Sabres #Blackhawks The trade being discussed however involves many other players. Deal not close, but some progress being made this week. #Sabres #Blackhawks As of right now, names on #Blackhawks side being discussed are Kane and Crawford; on #Sabres side Miller and Stafford. Picks involved also. My source was unaware who had the proposal, but could confirm the names involved. Negotiations will continue. #Sabres #Blackhawks Both #Blackhawks and #Sabres are working on more than 1 front at this moment. Both teams trying to improve via trade & working the phones. He also had a snippit of the Sabres being in talks with Edmonton The #Sabres on the other hand maintain contact with #Oilers re Gagner. Very interested in landing him if the price isn't too high. First of all I dont think Miller for Kane can be back on because Miller would have to of been asked to waive his NTC to go there and we all know Miller have established he would die by the blade before ever leaving Buffalo... as for Gagner I can see it happening, its not TOO farfetched of an idea .. we all know Edmonton needs D so probably a Sekera or Leopold for Gagner? SO wether you choose to believe this annonomys twitter user or not you cant help but wonder... WHat if this does acctually happen??? Do we even like the idea of Miller and Stafford being shipped outta town? What would be a fair price for Gagner? In some fairytale world this was to actually happen and Darcy makes these deals happen with the players in question and (enter name here) for Gagner .. What grade would you give Darcy this offseason and where do you think this remodled Buffalo Sabres team will finish.. REMINDER!!!! Only 55 days left!! LETS GO BUFFALO!
  22. The Sabres have been very silent through out this off season. After shelling out last year, the Sabres were expected by many to be very quite.. The Sabres when seeing their chance to make something happen during the CBA negotiation off season have delivered... Draft: 12th Overall - Mikhael Grigorenko 14th Overall via trade with Calgary - Zemgus Girgensons Signings/Trades: Traded: Derek Roy to Dallas Stars for Steve Ott and Adam Pardy Signed: John Scott With still plenty of time left before the start of pre-season (hopefully with a new CBA in tact by than) the Sabres still have a chance to land some big fish... Bobby Ryan and Shane Doan have been circulating names linked to a being possible candidates in Buffalo and would look pretty snazzy in some Blue and Gold next season.. Silence kills Buffalo sports fans every off season with shouts of #dosomethingdarcy running ramped on twitter as other teams gobble up the likes of Rick Nash, Zach Parise and Ryan Sutter... I see that Buffalo sports fans seem to want Darcy to do every thing possible right away as opposed to waiting in the wings and watching the top free agents go to other teams and most often sometimes rival teams Darcy has done well with focusing on what the team really needed coming into this off season and thus he has done well stringing together some magic to enforce this team that was ridiculed last year for being softer than Mr softies ice cream. If i'm Darcy i'm done playing waiting games as Sabres nation grows ever impatient waiting for the next domino to fall after seeing Derek Roys departure, surely something else has to give.. Make an offer and solidify your scoring punch Darcy, the Sabres have tons of talented prospects setting yourself back a few doesn't hurt at all seeing a draft pick slide away isnt too shabby either we draft well no matter where we fall in the draft.. The time for waiting is over you have all the tools at your disposial its time to make a splash that no one saw coming liek you did at trade deadline this past year swaping Gragnani and Kassian for Sulzer and Hodgson GO FOR IT! nothing to lose everything to gain
  23. I was thinking of trading him back to Michigan I was thinking along the lines of getting Jimmy Howard from the Wings but don't know if they would be willing to give him up. Howard's on a last year 2.25 contract I believe and will probably have a career year this season to get a new contract . But a #1 and prospect from Detriot would be sweet considering how they develop players
  24. With all the rumors last year near trade deadline of MIller possibly going to the Hawks in a one for one deal for star stud Patrick Kane gets me thinking, should we really trade Ryan Miller? Should Ryan Millers tenure in Buffalo be over? Miller has stated last year amidst of the rumours that he will die by the Sabres blade before giving up on the team. Miller does currently have a no trade/no movement clause but entering his last few years at his 6.25mil contract, it might be time to move on despite if Miller wants to stay or not I mean if a team really wants him in any deal that the Sabres are currently trying to make to gain a real good player to help improve our team, shouldn't they give it a shot and just ask? I'm sure Miller would understand if helps to better or team, Miller hasn't had the greatest of seasons since his Vezina trophy year in 2010 I personally dont want Miller to leave and I think this will be his year to shut up the critics who criticize him as a goalie who lets in softies.. But if the price is right you cant help but be tempted
  25. In the last few days Sabres made some big splashes in remoulding the identity of the Buffalo Sabres who were considered by much of the NHL as Pansies when Milan Lucic ran over Ryan Miller last year and the team didn't react.. Day 1: Sabres signed John Scott on the opening day of free agency for 600,000 for one year and with the cap going up to $70,200,000, Scott’s contract takes up less than 1%. Scott will not be paid to put points on the board so dont look for any big goals for him this year, Scott has never lost an NHL fight. Day 2: The Sabres traded Derek Roy and what was left of his 6 year deal at 4mil (one year) to the Dallas Stars for Steve Ott and Adam Pardy Adam Pardy has one year left at 2mil Steve Ott has 2 years left at 2.95mill Ott was fourth in the NHL last season with 278 hits in 74 games "I think more than anything else we needed to move the balance of skill versus the physical nature of our game, and become a tougher team to play against," said Regier, who made the deal one day after signing 6-foot-8 forward John Scott as a free agent. "Steve can play and complement the higher-skilled guys and contribute in a lot of different ways. I think that he will be very valuable for us." Pardy, 28, had three assists and 16 penalty minutes in 36 games with the Stars in 2011-12, his lone season with Dallas after three seasons with Calgary. In 183 NHL games, he has four goals, 25 assists and 157 penalty minutes. The Buffalo Sabres now have 10.995mil in cap space to work with to sign or trade for more players. Players to look at: 1) Bobby Ryan - 5.1Mill with 3 yrs left 2) Zach Parise - TBD 3) Rick Nash - 7.8mil 6yrs left IF we cant lure Parise here with Stafford look for Stafford to be on the block to acquire wither Ryan or Nash. Sabres have the parts to deal for both Ryan and Nash if operation Parise is unsuccessful. Getting both Nash and Ryan will cause a 2.9mil overage in cap nothing we couldn't clear up with some trades though Trade scenarios 1) Stafford, Sekera, and 1st round pick OR prospect for Rick Nash (which is what it probably would take cause Columbus wants alot) 2) Leino for Ryan (which is a salary dump trade to fit both Ryan and Nash) What are your trade suggestions for Nash and Ryan? We got plenty of prospects to fill the void of any defensive departure used in a trade so im not too worried plus Foligno has proved he's NHL ready with his play in our stretch run to the playoffs .. So who will the Sabres grab next? time will tell LETS GO BUFFALO!
