  1. How do you know that fan didn't just move to Pittsburgh?? Hmmmm?
  2. I've never argued that Weber is the better OVERALL defenseman. I just think Letang's skating makes him better at transitioning and offense. My point about the spite issue is simply that Poile could approach any number of teams in the league for star power in exchange for Weber. I find it hard to believe Philly would be his preference since Holmgren put him in the position he's in. I can agree with the position to help his team firing and all that... I just don't think exchanging Weber for Giroux helps his team. I think it hurts it.
  3. I disagree. For several reasons. Weber was the only real star talent on the team last year. The franchise based their promise to their fans on signing him to ludicrous cash defending against Holmgren's power play for Weber. They really put him as the cornerstone of all they're trying to do on the ice and in marketing. They tout him as the mentor for Jones. And you and I both know how hard it is to find a defenseman who can actually play the position of defense AND be such an offensive threat. He's got everything you want in a defenseman. And they're just harder to come by than star forwards. Not knocking Giroux's talent, but you can buy free agent forwards that can compliment any line up front. Defensemen are a tougher find and tend to be exposed more on their own. On top of all that, Poile could probably have his choice in all but a few of the top forwards in the league in exchange for Weber. Trading him to the team that forced you to pay him so much in the first place would be against most of our natures, business or not. Spite has to factor in at some level as well. It's not THE factor, but it counts.
  4. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy (Tucker)
  5. @Vanflyer I dunno what Nashville would take for him to be honest. They sort of sold their entire fan base on the "We're not giving up our number one guy for anything" when they spent the money. As for making doors... All of the butt end jokes got me to thinking in the middle of the night, and work was kinda slow....
  6. Hartnell is in Columbus now, Pronger still out, Briere moved along to the West... but there's still RInaldo and Rosehill to think of... you're not out of the race yet! Interesting thing is.. under Tocchet... Downie had a 22 goal season in Tampa. I still despise the guy, but it will be funny watching him victimize the Flyers' lineup with his cheap shots and then score a goal on a feed from Crosby. Seriously though.. I think if he isn't squared away he'll be out fast.
  7. Speaking of 'the end of it".. look what i made...
  8. I disagree. I think the Flyers win that trade. Again Giroux is a great player, but Weber is a rare breed of defenseman, and much harder to come by with a much bigger role on his team. I know it's purely subjective, but if I'm Nashville it takes more than Giroux straight up.
  9. @Vanflyer I was incorrect in thinking Weber's cap hit was higher. The big numbers were his bonuses. It's still not happening. Weber is their cornerstone. They just gave him $24 million in bonuses BECAUSE of the Flyers right? And Giroux is a great talent, but Weber is more vital to the Preds than Giroux would be. Both as a player and as a marketing point. Add this one to the never ending we want Weber bullsharts...
  10. Steve Downie on protecting Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin: "I can guarantee there won't be any liberties on those players this year."— Pittsburgh Penguins July 04, 2014 Downie: "Whatever team I've played on, I like to go out my way to stick up for my teammates. Every team needs a couple guys like that."— Pittsburgh Penguins July 04, 2014
  11. In the words of Giroux... I couldn't help myself. And I'm sorry.
  12. Are you drunk? He'll miss losing? He'll miss not making the playoffs? By the time Buffalo has a shot again he'll be retired. He took a $4 million contract to win and try for it all. I don't think he'll be missing Buffalo one bit.
  13. It was the best I could do in a PINCH.
  14. I have to think this has Tocchet's name all over it. As TFG said the only good games in Downie's career are under Tocchet.
  15. Ask Giroux who is the greater ASSet.
  16. Actually thanks to Holmgrown the Flyers can't afford it either.
  17. @brelic Excellent! @ruxpin I think you're enjoying this more than I am!
  18. Super far fetched. Nashville doesn't take that deal.
  19. Kovalev was a world class generational talent without the motivation to match. He could play solo keep away and dance through an entire team without once losing the puck. I loved watching his time with the Pens when he was trying to win. The problem was it wasn't every game, let alone every shift. A truly frustrating situation.
  20. They may be permitted more time to decide and use it as a discretionary tool. Here to hold you like that you'd at least get a citation for "public drunkenness". Their system may give police more power than ours.
  21. Is G participating? Thanks for the warning I'll keep my back to the wall.
  22. Not in most states. I don't know them all but most have a much shorter rule. Pennsylvania has a six hour rule. Most states have similar timelines for charges to be filed. There are exceptions that can be authorized by various issuing authorities, but you can't just grab someone and put them in a cell for 24 hours without some charge filed. Hell Pennsylvania only allows arrested drunks to be held for eight and that's WITH charges filed. The federal laws are much more accepting, but states restrict it. And if you do detain someone for six hours or even one hour you had better be able to justify it. If they were out in a jail cell you better file charges!
