  1. I know one thing for sure, the defense is not doing well. Either the Flyers look for outside help (trade JVR) or look to change the system to a trap-like/wing lock, or something that is different than what they play the Rangers. I do know that if JVR comes back after the trade deadline after his supposed concussion, I will be suspecting that his impairment was milked. He better think twice if that is his strategy. This team is not a Cup championship team right now. If Homer is a seller looking forward to next year, unfortunately, I think that may be the route to go.
  2. Watched the game against the Islanders with my son. When it went to overtime, I said I'll bet you a dollar that the game goes to a shootout and Bryz will let the first two into the net and we don't score one. So freakin predictable!!
  3. I simply loved that game. For a 49 year old fart, it brought back soooo many great memories. I am proud of being a Flyer fan. Only in Philly would 45,000 people turn out to see an alumni game. Somebody once commented that being a Flyer fan was like being in a little club. It seems that we take the back seat when it comes to the Phillies, Eagles, and Sixers. After today, I don't think our club is so little. Imagine, 45,000+ orange and black. Love it!
  4. "Split the episodes in two... Sorry, but the cripple boy angle is touching and all, but I don't need to see it in this show." I made a joke to my daughter, "I wanna see the kid cry". Hate the rags, want to see them lose and see all their fans suffer.
  5. "I just didn’t feel well. I didn’t know what it was, we said it was a virus but I didn’t know what it was. I had never felt like that before, where I had headaches and nausea and all the rest of that stuff. So I had a concussion test. I took the baseline test and passed that… I’ve just never felt like this where you get lightheaded, you have headaches, you’re nauseous...It’s been a bit of a mystery with what exactly is going on. I did some blood-work and we’re trying to get to the bottom of what’s going on." I think I can explain either 2 possibilities for his symptoms other than a "mystery virus". First, when you are in pain and have a muscle-skeletal injury it disrupts normal neural input to the cerebellum (balance) and mid brain, and also sets up abnormal reflex arcs including alteration of blood and vestibular apparatus (again balance). If after the surgery he still has these symptoms I would go with my second suspicion. After a lower back injury, the spine compensates and usually L5 (his surgery repair) is linked to the first cervical vertebral segment. When position of this segment is changed, it can affect the nervous system, leading to common feelings of lethargy, headaches and nausea. Being a chiropractor for over 21 years I see this repeatedly. It usually only takes a couple of treatments to return to a more functional state.
  6. Bermadmacel, way to go. I have a 21 year old that now lives in Dallas. She and a couple classmates put up money for the NHL package so as to be able to watch the Flyers. She has converted 3 of her friends to be Flyer die-hard fans over the years. I too heard the Flyer chants and am always glad when visiting there seems to be a large gathering of our fans. Somebody once said that being a Flyer fan is like being in a club. It always amazes me that away from home, just wear some Flyer logo and it starts instant conversation and friendship. So hard to explain to someone who is not a Flyer fan. Congrats on bringing up your girl the right way.
  7. It actually reminded me of the movie where the guy has a drinking problem (Airplane?)
  8. That too brought a smile to my face.
  9. Maybe it's the skeptic in me, but I don't know if I am buying this "virus" thing. I recall in the past, when there was an issue with Gagne and him feeling achy, lethargic and headaches, they said it was the "virus". I really do hope it is an illness, but keeping injuries under wraps is big in professional sports. Here's to a quick recovery, whatever it is.
  10. Last year I asked 2 NHL defensemen who was the most difficult offensive player to guard against. Both said Crosby. Whether you hate or like him, you gotta give him credit. Although I pull for the Flyers, I would like to see him back on the ice and not have his career cut short by injury. Although not a Crosby fan, he matured and had less immature incidents on the ice last year.
  11. I know it's early, but having watched the Flyers since the cup days, I think this team has "it". They play fast and are skilled. The atmosphere of supporting each other also seems to be genuine. Jagr and Bryz seem to lighten the mood in the lockeroom with their personalities. Contrast that to Richards and Carter's mortician speak. Initially, I loved the trade of Carter and Richards. Dropping Carcillo was also a plus. Leino wanted way too much. So with the subtraction of entitlement players for the young guns and we have now (and Jagr and Bryz), Homer gets a big pat on the back from me. Look for Schenn to be possible trade bait along with Bob for a top 4 d-man. Then, I think we'll have the complete team if everyone stays healthy. I'm Flyered-up!
  12. I would like to see more than one move from JVR. He has the habit of trying to beat the d-man wide than try to take a sharp angle toward the goalie. It worked in the playoffs, but I think that maybe the league figured out his one move. I don't think he has the hands and moves to consistently get by d-men. Me thinks we overpaid him.
  13. Just joined. Nice to see familiar names. Looking for the continuation of good Flyers hockey talk.
