  1. @Samifan Don't forget to mention that Downie will be part of that trade!
  2. @Samifan I'm actually scared that they would do the opposite. Send McGinn to the 4th line and Hartnell back on the top line.
  3. I don't understand why Hartnell is on any line above the third. It is so apparent that he is far behind the other top 6 forwards in skating ability. I like Brelic's lines. I'd also like to see them try: Read/Giroux/Voracek Simmonds/Lecavalier/Schenn Hartnell/Couturier/Talbot Rosehill/Hall/Rinaldo
  4. First the bad: Giroux was brutal in this game. I am hoping it is just rust from a lack of a preseason. He seemed ok in the faceoff circle but the blind passes were frustrating. Also did anyone else look at Hartnell and think he looks even slower than before? I must have heard how he lost 7% body fat at least half a dozen times but he looked slower than I remember. The Good: Mason looked good! If he can keep playing that way then we at least have found one piece of the puzzle. Vinny made me eat a little crow. He was forechecking and going into the boards hunting for the puck. I did not expect that of him. We'll see where this team is after the first 10 or so games. If Lavy can control himself and keep consistent lines I think they will be good. I also hope that Lavy doesn't burn out Mason as he has a tendency to play the hot goalie.
  5. I still feel that Homer should have taken the fall for last season. I just wonder if the impatience is due to Homer or to the organization. In other words can any GM come in and change the way the Flyers do things?
  6. I hated this movie. The only scene that captured my attention was the one with Hartnell and co. That was mostly because I didn't expect to see Hartnell in a movie!
  7. The Emery deal, imo, is the best offseason move this year. I'm happy to have him back in the O&B. He's also saying all the right things. Looking forward to training camp!
  8. I'd like to see Gags back next year but I feel like he might be left waiting in the wings like Jagr was last year.
  9. This is a thread that I wish I hadn't read. I'm going to have nightmares now. DiPietro in an orange sweater signed for 8 years $51M and a NMC. It's scary because it sounds like a Homer move.
  10. I'd be ok with Emery backing up Mason. It would at least be a marked improvement over the Bryz/Leighton tandem we started last season off with.
  11. @AndyS Are you ok trading Coburn for minimum return? I'm not and that would make me hate these offseason moves more. Other GMs know our cap situation. They aren't going to be asking for Mez. They'll be asking for Coburn and offering little in return.
  12. @ruxpin I'm wondering if this moves mean we won't be resigning Gags.
  13. The Islanders took on Thomas' contract this past season to get above the cap minimum. I'd imaging there are teams looking to do the same this year. The problem is that other GMs know we are in a cap bind and that greatly diminishes our returns.
  14. @trevluk It seems like the Flyers hand out NMCs like candy on Halloween. It makes me wonder if other teams offer them as freely.
  15. @DaGreatGazoo I stand corrected. I honestly thought it was 6.5. I don't know if 6.0 is that much better though. I guess that extra .5M helped us keep Wellwood around.
  16. So which deal is worse? Vinny's cap hit at $4.7M or Kimmo at $6.5M? I think due to the length it is Vinny's deal that hurts the team more but Kimmo's certainly doesn't help us this offseason.
  17. I don't hate Vinny but this is a typical Snider/Flyers move. No patience and our young players will move on to win somewhere else. Someone on this board drew a comparison between the Cowboys and Flyers. That looks pretty darn accurate right now.
  18. @sarsippius I couldn't agree more. They already overpaid Streit. I hope they are done overpaying over the hill players this off season (though something tells me they aren't).
  19. I remember when he melted down about Bob starting the Winter Classic. I can only imaging what he would do if he were told that he is Mason's backup.
  20. I wish I had something witty to say...I just hate this move. It doesn't do anything for the team other than replace one bad contract for another.
  21. Gary Thorne and Bill Clement were my favorite national announcers. I really miss those two.
  22. But can Streit pretend to be a #1 now? I don't see him as a #1 I think of him as a second pairing guy (3-4) at this point in his career.
  23. I wasn't initially thrilled to hear we traded for Streit (I even thought of another thread where we joked that this would be the stereotypical Flyers move). I am only ok with this if it is a sign that we are finally going to build up the team around our younger players. I just hope Homer doesn't offer a 3 or more year deal.
  24. Bernier is a big ? but is he any more risky than keeping Bryz around another season? I feel alot better going into the season with Mason/Bernier tandem than the Bryz/Leighton we had this past season.
  25. I think the Bob move alone should get Homer run out of town. There was no real reason to trade Bob then sign Leighton (who we also traded) and Bouche as backups. Snider may get in the way of many things (that is why I don't blame Homer for Bryz) but I doubt he was forcing Homer to make that mess of a backup goalie situation.
