  1. I'm not on the ledge about a 4th or 5th rounder either....I'm just saying Briere is starting to do the same things the previous guys did with draft picks, while a few people are saying he isn't....while he's doing it. I know 4ths and 5ths rarely work out. But they don't work out ever if you throw them in on trades.
  2. I think a generational talent is one that comes along once in a generation and dominates it. It isn't 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 guys who put up points. Crosby, as much as I hate to admit it as a Flyers fan, pretty much dominated his era. Not only did he put up more points than Kane, he did it playing a tougher position, while also playing solid defensively (Kane sorely lacks there) In about the same amount of games Crosby scored over 100 goals more and 150 assists more, while playing a 200 foot game. Add 70 more playoff points on top of that. Theres your generational talent. And I don't think anyone can argue he's handed it to McDavid. You're never going to see the Flyers get a generational talent picking 14 through 32 (someone elses pick) all the time. Maybe we get a franchise player out of Michkov.
  3. I'm happy that we've got some extra picks, especially 1st rounders. We all know the more chances you have, the better chances of landing something special. We also all know picking near the very top gives you the best chance, especially in a good draft. That's why they need a rebuild and stop this middling bs.
  4. I honestly don't see anything wrong with Chicago stripping down their team after winning 3 cups, and doing a full rebuild. I'll bet they end up contending before the eternal borderline playoff Flyers ever do. I also am not sure I'd call Bedard, or Kane "generational", I think that term gets thrown around way too loosely. Kane, for example has put up the 4th most points since he joined the league, behind Crosby/Ovechkin/Malkin and just ahead of "generational" Kopitar/Stamkos/Pavelski/Giroux. But they're certainly franchise players.
  5. I think your statememnt tells us more about Johnsons effectiveness than mine did.
  6. Meanwhile, Erik Johnson is -5 in 4 games with the Flyers....saving our youth from the horrors of losing.....which, in fact they've all experienced in their hockey careers and yet, are still somehow playing.
  7. Well I won't argue you Couturier is a better choice over Laughton. That doesn't make Laughton not leader material. Also, they're supposed to be rebuilding. Laughton is going to be 30. Of course that brings the question why they don't trade Couturier, who's 31. He'd bring in a great package, other than Chuck Fletcher took his value away with yet another patented Flyer too long contract.
  8. I'd love to get either...at what price? Catton certainly isn't big, but he's good everywhere and has a heck of an IQ. Over 50 goal scorer, leading the league in shorties. 5'11" and 170 in his draft year isn't terrible. That's about that Frost was in his draft year...he's put on about 20 lbs.
  9. Laughton couldn't captain a Stanley Cup team, but he could certainly captain the Flyers until they actually have a contending team. He teaches the players to work hard, and even though you may not be elite, you can have a nice career. The guy can slot in at any forward position on any line. And I say all this as a guy who would have liked to move him, and hope they do while he still has value. I'll never understand your disdain for a guy who got stuck playing with some of the laziest, dumbest, douchiest players ever assembled on one team.
  10. I get what you're saying rad. But if I can see how done Johnson is how can that room think this is helping them in their hunt? If I played there, I'd say the same thing..."Erik Johnson? Seriously?" Your last comment is bang on.
  11. I'm hoping we drop a little further, and Catton falls into our lap. One can only dream.
  12. I agree that he isn't much help. I just don't think they had to spend a draft pick, lower or not, to get not much help.
  13. The pattern isn't on Briere, yet. It's a Flyers pattern that Briere has begun to dip his toe in. I don't think Briere has done a terrible job by any means. I don't think he's done a great job either. It's also a very short timetable. Right now, he's no Chuck Fletcher so I can live with it. But some of his moves certainly aren't wowing me.
  14. Who needs Zegras or Eiserman (falling due to one dimesional), we have Frosty.
  15. And THEN Philly traded for him. Clarke, Barber and Homer all endorse this move 100%. I just can't believe some of you guys do. Only a 4th rounder, right? To go with only a 5th they threw in another trade . To go with the constant they do this pretty much every....single....year. Players taken in the 4th round or later in the last 20 years who've played over 600 games (players the Flyers traded MORE than where they were drafted to get them in bold) Pekka Rinne(683) Mark Streit (786 games) Troy Brouwer (851) Daniel Winnik (798) Jannik Hansen (626) Roman Polak (801) Kris Versteeg (603 Philly traded a 1st and a 3rd FOR Versteeg) Ryan Callaghan (757) Torrey Mitchell (666) Not that many, right? Ok, that's one draft. Patrick Hornquist, Darren Helm, Anton Stralman, Keith Yandle (which makes me wonder if they'll "Yandle" Johnson so he can play his 1,000 game next season...the ol' boys would love it!) Mathieu Perrault, Andrew MacDonald (he played just under 600 but Philly traded a 2nd and a 3rd for him and signed him to a stupid contract so I thought he mattered), Jamie Benn, Nick Bonino, Carl Hagelin, Justin Braun (2nd, 3rd), Patrick Maroon (Philly actually drafted him but cut him he went on to play 778 NHL games and won 3 Stanley Cups), Jake Muzzin, Alec Martinez, TJ Brodie, Gustav Nyquist, Matt Martin, Jared Spurgeon, Cam Atkinson , Jason Demers, Casey Cizikas, David Savard, Craig Smith, Mattias Ekholm, Marcus Foligno, Ben Chariot, Mike Hoffman, Anders Lee, Eric Haula, Mark Stone, Jesper Fast, Brendan Gallagher, John Klingberg, Ondrei Palat, Johnny Gaudreau, Jean-Gabriel Pageau. Obviously players taken in the last 7-10 drafts won't have played 600 games yet but theres plenty of good ones Kaprizov, Lebanc, Mangiapane, Roy, Roy again, Bratt, Batherson etc. Not to mention goalies.
  16. C'mon, you don't really think I THINK they're building around Johnson? Ok, thanks. I know what they've said. I never thought it would take one trade deadline. Already discussed it, you can't fall in love, going to have to be some tough decisions, whats better for the team going forward. I agree 100% with those comments. But none of those things mean bringing in a 35 year old. It's not like he's any good. It's just taking another draft pick and Flyering into the wind. As we do. Heck, they're paying Johansen $4 million a year....throw him on D. When this team is a legit top 10 team ( not just playing way over their heads for two thirds of a season) and they want to move assets to strengthen them for the present and give them more depth, sign me up.
  17. Drysdale (if he can stay healthy) and Michkov (if he ever comes over, don't get me wrong, it was the pick to make) are a good start. But theres 16 of the last 17 cup winners with at least a 2nd overall, 10 with a 1st. That's a pretty telling stat. PS, welcome to the board.
  18. Stanley Cup Champions (Vegas isn't counted because nobody else can build a team like they did) Colorado (McKinnon 1st overall Landeskog 2nd overall Makar 4th overall) Tampa back to back Stamkos 1st overall Hedman 2nd overall St Louis Pietrangelo 4th overall Schenn 5th overall Washington Ovechkin 1st overall Backstrom 4th overall Pittsburgh back to back and 3 times in 9 years Crosby 1st overall Malkin 2nd overall Fleury 1st overall Chicago 3 time winner in 6 years Kane 1st overall Toews 3rd overall LA Doughty 2nd overall Gaborik 3rd overall Boston Seguin 2nd overall Horton 3rd overall Detroit BINGO! no top 5 picks. Good luck finding a Datsyuk, Zetterburg, Lidstrom where the Wings did now. Anaheim Pronger 2nd overall Neidermeyer 3rd overall Carolina Eric Staal 2nd overall Tampa LeCavalier 1st overall Theres pretty much your last 2 decades of cup winners, every one except St Louis and Detroit had at least a 1st or 2nd overall on their team. Philly was usually competitive before the cap when you could just buy a team...you can't do that anymore. Of course we now have 1st overall 35 year old broken down washed up Erik Johnson leading us to the promised land, so we got that going for us. Nevermind!
  19. Mediocre is fine.... The problem is, a few more mediocre drafts, added to a mediocre team, equals what? They need high end talent. Rarely do you get that picking from the middle of the pack on down. I know you see this as glass half full, just like I see anyone cheering for this team being mediocre half insane. The best case scenario for this team is for them to lose their way as far down as they can get in the standings so Briere/Homer/Clarke/Jones and all the other ex-Flyers can see, NO, WE'RE NOT CLOSE!!!!! No, I don't expect the players to go into games saying " Lets lose this one for flyercanuck". I'm saying it would be the best thing to happen to this so called "rebuild".
  20. Some people say that theres a woman to blame, but I know..... its the senior advisors fault. SING IT! Well, today we are 15th out of 32 teams. So I actually do know we are mediocre.
  21. None of these moves, on their own, are big deals. Neither were Clarkes or Holmgrens throwing away of 2nd round draft picks. Until you start seeing them do it on a consistent basis, and they add up to where we are now, and STILL doing the same things. Throwing in draft picks where theres no need for it, signing players that don't fit into a rebuild, TRADING for 35 year old defenceman. It's just doing the same crap that gets us nowhere. And here we are, wasting away again in Mediocreville, (sing it with me) searching for my lost draft pick and salt
  22. Well you can call it 'rebuild". Trading away pieces for the "now" and getting return for down the road aka picks/younger players. It's what we should be doing, instead of maybe making the playoffs.
