  1. I read somewhere that Anaheim would be looking for a 2nd-line center in any trade pkg for Ryan. I know he's not a center, but might Voracek be an option? I know he's unsigned, but which one would you rather play the other wing on Giroux's line - Ryan or Voracek?
  2. JVR and Jagr weren't exactly heavy hitters, so they don't support the "soft" assertion. I also disagree with you that Homer doesn't want to sign Voracek. I think he was waiting to see how the Weber thing panned out. I firmly believe that jake will be signed. I also like that Couturier and Schenn (both) are still here. Bottom line is that I don't think it will be all gloom-n-doom like some people are thinking.
  3. I totally agree with you. I think a 2-yr deal (maximum) would be an easier pill to swallow, in exchange for the kinds of intangibles that Jagr brought last year.
  4. Yes...Schenn is better viewed as a replacement for Carle. I think we need to keep Meszaros. I would be ok with getting 2-3 of the 1sts back, and giving up Voracek, MAB or Gus, and Lilja. Maybe Nashville will want a veteran thrown in? He wouldn't be the key to them, but could be a good ingredient.
  5. I agree with you that I would rather keep Meszaros. MAB is a better option in my mind. I also do NOT see Briere being moved as part of anything.
  6. So this is basically replacing Pronger and Mezaros with Weber and Schenn (only talking about top 6 behind the blueline). We all know turning Pronger into Weber is not a bad thing, but Mezaros into Schenn? Is that an upgrade? Long-term, I think yes. But right now? What do you guys think?
  7. The problem with this thought is that Monday's flight was from Philly to Nashville. Tuesday's flight is the return. Intriguing development indeed. Any updates this morning, JM?
  8. Are you saying that this bodes well for the All-Star Game and skills competition?
  9. I was thinking the exact same thing. I read somewhere that the Rags were watching the Weber situation verrrry closely, and would push HARD for Nash if the Flyers got Weber.
  10. Wow. Thanx for clarifying. That seems a bit screwy to me, but it is what it is.
  11. Everyone keeps talking about the compensation that would be owed to Nashville if they elect not to match the offer sheet, and saying that it would be 4 first round draft picks. i don't think that is correct anymore. All of the research that I have done indicates that it would be 2 firsts, a second, and a third. The compensation levels changes each year as the average salary of all NHL players changes. When the lockout ended originally, it would have been four 1sts for anyone whose cap hit was above $5m. Check out this site: http://www.mynhltraderumors.com/2012/07/06/draft-pick-compensation-for-2012-nhl-restricted-free-agents/. It says that if the offer is between $6,728,781 and $8,410,976, then the compensation would be 2 1st round picks, 1 2nd and 3rd round pick. I don't know anything about what years, though. Also...from NHL.com (http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=636658#&navid=nhl-search): OFFER COMPENSATION $1,110,249 or below None Over $1,110,249 to $1,682,194 Third-round choice Over $1,682,194 to $3,364,391 Second-round choice Over $3,364,391 to $5,046,585 First-round and third-round choice Over $5,046,585 to $6,728,781 First-round, second-round and third-round choice Over $6,728,781 to $8,410,976 Two first-round choices, one second- and one third-round choice Over $8,410,976 Four first-round choices The offer sheet to Weber was a cap hit around $7.8m, right?
  12. Keep in mind also that Weber scored 19 goals last year. Isn't that the same number that Jagr scored last year? JVR was injured a lot last year, and I don't think that he was even in double-digits. What this means is that not as much offense was lost as what people are making it out to be. in addition, having Weber means more 3-2 games, and fewer 6-5 games. They might not score quite as many total goals as they did last year, but I believe they will give up far fewer than they did last year.
  13. I'm fairly certain that if there is a lockout (or a strike, for that matter) that salaries and bonuses are not paid.
  14. I'm not 100% sure about this, but I thought that they changed this rule, so that a team is not allowed to reacquire draft picks that they originally lost as compensation? Can anyone else confirm??
