  1. Which apparently Lindros could never figure out or rmember when it came to Stevens......much to his detriment.
  2. I agree with you on all points, actually. There hasn't been -- which is why I've been posting that the Flyers have got to learn to adapt to play, compete, and win in this new era, sans fighting. They can't rest on those laurels anymore. When I was posting about CoachX's theory, which I don't necessarily endorse (that's just my opinion and he's welcome to his), I was being facetious when saying that if the plan is to put a fighting team on the ice, at least I hope they can win at that -- because I'm not entirely convinced they can execute that strategy successfully and even win fights, or a fight, the way things are going with this team at this time.
  3. Great post! CoachX's theory may be somewhat more compelling or entertaining if they're going to win their fights. If the Flyers fight and lose that's just like rubbing salt in the wound and you're out quite a bit of money for nothing. Money for nothin' and your chicks for free....according to the Dire Straits. I just hope they can win at something even if it is a season of fighting instead of competitive, quality hockey!!
  4. I totally got your point, I just think it's highly debatable. I use myself as an example -- would I tune in more, sign up again for another season of center ice just to see more fights. Nope. Would I be interested in, or more likely to watch younger players play, learn, and develop? Probably. I do agree that they can't win with this current roster, so we have that in common.
  5. Have "had" guys like this. Had being the key word there. Unfortunately, in the new NHL which isn't so new anymore, though maybe it still is to the Flyers because God knows they've had trouble adjusting, players like this don't add much to a winning formula anymore, if anything. Once upon a time they could dominate on the ice, as the Flyers did of old, and that'd help you win games. I loved watching the old Flyers. They were good at that game and they won. Now, not so much. Now I just want the Flyers to win games and win how the NHL dictates you must win. And that means changing the formula which the Flyers haven't managed to figure out and do yet. It's time, Flyers. Get with the new program and rebuild, retool, re-whatever, accordingly. Just win games. And don't sign players like this to do it. It doesn't work.
  6. Exactly this. Fletch is a huge problem but the even bigger problem is the people who hired him. The entire organization is dysfunctional.
  7. Totally agree on the cap - nothing can ever happen if they can't make it work under the cap. Stupid cap!! If he really did want to be here, then it really is Fletcher's fault for mismanaging things so badly that he couldn't figure out how to make it work. And Hextall's, and Holmgren's, and Clarke Part Deux. It's a problem that's been compounded by every GM since Farwell. But it sure feels to me, from the outside looking in and I have no knowledge of anything at all, but it feels to me like the organization is at best disorganized and at worst toxic. I think players can feel that. Who's offering me the best chance to win with all the pieces and parts --- and it's not this organization.
  8. Fletcher has been consistently out GM'd by every other GM in the League. The problem in Philly is not just his own personal shortcomings and ineptitude as a manager, but the even bigger problem that nobody in ownership or the organization as a whole seems to know how to build and run a program, after Snider died, does anyone inside even care anymore? The team has become an afterthought, a sideshow. Why did Gaudreau go to the Blue Jackets (which I don't mind because it'll be fun to watch him play)? Because he wanted to have fun. Because the organization has its schite together. Until the Flyers can fix the organization from top to bottom - with the GM being just one cog on the wheel - they will forever bumble and never be competitive. It's my opinion that they never fully adapted to or recovered from the change in League rules Bettman made over a decade ago. And, in this era of salary caps for whatever reason, they just can't figure it out - maybe too many moving pieces. But if we can do it on this board, I mean come on. I've read so many good posts from all of you that we could put together a better team. Don't get me wrong - I loved watching the old Flyers, best hockey ever. But as much as I hate to say it, and stating the obvious, they haven't been competitive for 20 years and they are no longer an organization that players want to play for. They're an organization that other teams take advantage of every time we shoot ourselves in the foot. If I'm Gaudreau why do I want to come here? Regardless of length of contract or salary or whatever the offer is. I'm a no every time.
  9. I'd love if it was only a seven year, get over the hump, be patient wait. Unfortunaly, I've heard that admonishment three times seven now. I'm 53 and only have so many seven year humps left. That mantra is pretty ponderous at this point. It's old and worn out. I'm still a Flyers fan, but just can't wrap my head around why they haven't been able to figure it out and learn and move forward from their mistakes. It's like a bad, low budget remake if Groundhog Day
  10. Same here. But particularly after seeing him in action up close and on the Columbus, Ohio (where I live) media outlets on a regular basis with the Blue Jackets. He'll lose the locker room and implode. As a Flyers fan, I was pretty happy when he was announced as coach of the Jackets, figuring they were going to get what they deserved. They had some success but it was sporadic and ultimately was not sustainable. He wore out his welcome quickly. I was hoping the Flyers would do better. He won't last. They need stability through yet another rebuild and I'm afraid they won't get it with this guy. Torts is his own biggest fan. If he can check or reign in his ego, it might be interesting to watch, and he may have some modicum of success. He's an arrogant prick, though.
  11. And there's about a 95% chance they'll screw that up too.
  12. They've been sucking for several years....at least ten, and rebuilding for several years. I've been waiting at least a decade for the rebuild to end. Every season it's the same. Wait a couple more seasons. That's all it'll take. Then. Oh, we just need a couple of more seasons. I'm now over 50 and wondering if I'll ever see the end of it. I feel too much like Charlie Brown falling for Lucy's line of crap that she'll really hold the football this time. Really. She will. Well I ain't buying it with this team anymore. What's the plan, Phil!?
  13. Watching the game tonight. Why, I don't know. Like train wrecks I suppose. Anyway, noticing Yeo behind the bench. The guy looks petrified. Lost. No confidence. Even my 9-year old son noted it. This does not bode well.
  14. Tough break, indeed. Just seems to be our luck. Right when they were clicking. Good news, though, for those with injuries. They'll have some time to heal.
  15. So both these guys, Grant and Thompson, are great penalty killers. Does this mean the Flyers are planning on taking more penalties as the season winds down? What don't we know????? Hmmmm.........
  16. That is good news and I'm glad he's skating. I'd love for him to get through this. But, and there's always one of those, I wonder how his head is going to feel the first time he gets hit or knocked into the boards multiple times throughout the course of a game. It's the contact I'm worried about - even if he is cleared for it.
  17. As an eternal optimist, I'd like to note that at least whatever may have happened, it didn't involve a Porsche........
  18. AV doesn't have that deer-in-the-headlights look that Haskol always seemed to have standing behind the bench.
  19. I'd love to see this. Put the conspiracy rumors to bed. Call out the League on its biased inconsistency.
  20. The League clearly still has a bias against the Flyers. There is no consistency or fairness. There is no equal application of or treatment under the law. Just look at TK. Hey Bettman, Flyers Lives Matter!!
  21. Is Ghost performing at a level that will get a good return? I'm afraid we may be selling low there. Other teams may see his potential. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery. Guaranteed he'll take off and play lights out, though, for whatever team he's traded to. That's the Flyer way!! I'd shop Giroux. He's underperforming this season too. Definitely off his pace. But we might be able to get something decent in return.....before it's too late. If it isn't already.
  22. I think Buffalo Rick also made the transition to this site......
  23. I don't see anyone making an offer. The risk is enormous considering the return. Maybe there's a return several years from now when he can get the issue under control through medication, or maybe it never gets under control. I think we're stuck.
