  1. Wonder if it's going to be the GM or Captain trend going forward? I never understood why Craig Ramsey was given such a short leash. I really liked him as the HC. Barber, I did not. Hitch, I really didn't like. Stevens was decent. Lavy was good, but not great, at the bare minimum he was entertaining. Berube was not too good and in way over his head.
  2. I have it framed and hanging in my garage. That is when they crapped the bed against the Sens. They made the Sens look like beasts in that series too. I thought the Flyers would have fought harder after fighting past the Leafs. But in all honesty they scored more goals in that series than they did against the Craps.
  3. I think Daigle soured Yashin slightly. In fact, I think there would have been a much different Yashin if Daigle was traded to Quebec at the draft. However, in the end they got a nice haul for the Yashin.
  4. @radoran Or put a stop to the hand outs to crap teams that couldn't buy attendance. I fail to see the logic where big market teams supplementing small market teams equals high ratings.
  5. I am a little lackadaisical with this post, but going through the numbers since the 2004-05 lockout, the teams that have won the cup were not in the top five in spending. I would like to look at the numbers in the pre-cap era to see if there was any impact with $$ vs Championships. I'd almost like to say that the two are not correlated and the cap is anti-capitalistic and WoW does bring up a good point. The Toronto and New York fans are paying out the @$$ to support desert hockey.
  6. Thanks for posting this. I vaguely recall this and this brings back some fond memories of 90's hockey. And yes, nothing screams the 90's like teal and purple.
  7. @OccamsRazor Yeah when I saw "Flyers actually gave up a talented Scott Hartnell", I actually lost all respect for Travis Yost's ability to objectively analyze hockey. I wonder if he was wearing his Senators jersey when he typed that report up? Then again, I'd talk $hit too if my team was too cheap to retain any talent. Must be hard being on the outside looking in for Travis. Haters gonna H8 H8 H8
  8. Why does everybody rule this team out? They started off bad last year and righted the ship mid-way through the season. They are essentially the same team as last season without TImmonen. Chief is going to have a full camp and the defense may actually jell. As much as I like Timmonen, his health has been a concern for about three seasons now. Odds are he may not have held up the entire season and the Flyers would have been stuck playing a Phantoms call-up. Besides, from what we have witnessed they suck at loosing too, as in Patrick Kane says: "Yo! Philly, hide your cab drivers next time I'm in town"....
  9. Man that is awesome. Tocchet is a really good dude. I remember when he was ending his career in Philly, might have been early 2001, and I saw him and John LeClair at a bar in Philly (Finnegan's Wake). I chatted them up for about 10 minutes, and had a drink with them. I'll never forget how down to earth the two were. Back to the topic in hand, if anybody can get through to Downie it will be Tocchet; however, I truly think Downie is a shell of his former self, and I wouldn't expect too much toughness out of him....
  10. I am surprised that Malaysia hates the Bruins more than the....... ok too soon end thought..... back to work.
  11. The Islanders may have a good squad this year. Not SC Champions, but possible playoff team. Adding Halak and Johnson could prove to be a solid tandem. Outside of that they, have so/so forwards and so/so defenders. I can see them doing well. I would not expect the #1 or #2 overall pick being the Islanders pick that the Sabres now own. However, stranger things could happen in the NHL. Should make for an interesting year for the Sabres. With all the picks they have, I would expect a roster move for some of those picks. October hurry up and get here. How's the summer going Rick?
  12. @pilldoc question #1: Pittsburgh Pirates
  13. @yave1964 Frighting that Winnipeg may be his only option at this point. I guess winning the cup in his 1st year is hard to repeat..... Not that I have too much Canadian knowledge outside of Ontario, is Winnipeg all that bad to play in? On or off the ice? Personally, I'd like to see the Edmonton make a move on him, but I am not too sure how how they'd work that out salary wise. They have so much firepower on that team that it almost seems like they need to build from the net out going forward.
  14. was Lasse the one ball wonder, or was that another throw away defender? Kyle Calder....puke
  15. Makes Ward very tradeable, or at the least a compliance buyout candidate.
  16. It's a big price tag to sit on the bench ....possibly. I do not see him returning to greatness, and basically winning the cup so soon in a goalie's career can be tough to repeat. With that said, he is 30, and has some mileage on him, but is very serviceable. Does anyone see Khudobin taking the starter job and Ward being moved? If so where does Ward fit at his current pricetag? Sorry for the edits. On the road and doing this on a phone is challenging for my less than tech savvy @$$
  17. @pilldoc At the moment I do not think that there is any number that should be retired. Maybe, and it's a reach, I would retire #55. Pavel Brendl 6 goals and 7 assists in 50 games for the O&B. How Vancouver did not take him with the #2 pick is beyond me.
  18. @radoran Thank you. I am glad to hear that Schenn get to keep #10 until he goes to Winnipeg
  19. @radoran does this mean #88, #10, and #37 become retired numbers for the Flyers? I forget how this works.
  20. Got to go with KY and his marathon OK goal in the 2000 EC semi-finals.
  21. @AJgoal VLC in my opinion is going to be a deadline move. Some team on the cusp that needs scoring depth will take the contract to make a run. Especially if said name team is hurting at center. Maybe like the Adam Oates move of 01-02 season where the Flyers wanted to make a run, but were decimated at center. And also, I agree, Nashville is not going to be spiteful for the sake of being spiteful. The way I see it is they will not be going out of their way to do the Flyers any favors, but if the right deal came along the most certainly would have to.
