  1. Tie Straps? That is going to take awhile to grow on me. To me the tie stuff is for Original 6 only. Oh well, not bad, but not great. It's better than that Tony the Tiger crapola
  2. @idahophilly I wasn't saying anything about Rick's girlfriend. I was saying that you won't let it go. Meaning talking about philly.com over here is like talking about your ex-girlfriend on a date with your new girlfriend, an analogy of sorts. Let's enjoy it here and forget about that dump over there. We're all here for one reason- GO FLYERS!!!!
  3. Good stuff. Have you ever considered any beer leagues? Also good you went on to coaching. Good luck with the twins. Maybe they'll be Claude Giroux and Bobrovsky in a few years. Again thanks for the story, it reminded me of my youth, except I was Jordon and my close buddy was Scotty Pippen....
  4. I could be a great locker room guy too and I would do it for about 10% of his salary. Hell I would do it for 5% of his salary. I could tell funny jokes, drink beers with the youth, tell stories about how I used to play wing man for my friends, puking in toilets in Mexico, hanging at college bars, etc. I could discuss the trials and tribulations of marriage and getting older, what a good method of birth control could be, my favorite episode of In Living Color, the worst Ozzy album, etc, etc. I could all this and more, but it's not worth a million dollars at the end of the day. That $$ is going to bite the Flyers in the ass when Shenn comes off of IR and somebody has to get sent down. The game has evolved and Shelley doesn't fit the bill anymore. In fact, he should pay the Flyers for his ice time, not the other way around.
  5. Me too 34thandPearl. It is nice that Cooter, Read, Rinaldo, Gus, and Harry Z are not just mear call ups and will probably have a place with this team for years to come. And to think we haven't even seen what Schenn can do. It's amazing the talent level of this team. This is a good thing being that they will grow as a core (much like the 06-07 Phillies did) and two they are dirt cheap compared to some of the high $$ contracts we have. I have a feeling that a big name will be moved this year to compensate for their D issues. My take is that if they are buyers by the deadline one of our rookies and a high $$ contract will be moved for some much needed defensive help. Oh and from what I counted Edmonton is starting 4 rookies.
  6. The only other one that comes to mind is the Oilers, but I am not too sure how green they are.
  7. I think it is weak to play the 1-3-1 pseudo trap, but there are ways to beat it, especially with two line passes gone. Why couldn't the Flyers either send someone deep to hustle into the offensive zone, or play a game of dump and chase? Again, I like how Lavy handled it, but I don't think we need the refs to determine and penalize strategy now. Insanity.
  8. You can always count on Meltzer for a good game day read. What's everybody's thought? A wild west shooting gallery like last year, or a controlled game? I really hope the Bryzgalov of late shows up and Pronger actually plays. We need a solid win after all this time off.
  9. No offense meant IP, but you need to cut the cord bro. The philly forum has been **** for quite some time now. Why go back? Well I mean other than to mess with Rick, but then again that kid of defeats the purpose of being here. Idaho, I am guessing you are the guy who talked about his ex-girlfriend on a date...... Just let it go. The gang is all here now and if the remaining few want to find a new forum, I am sure they know where to look.
  10. There was some buzz circulating back in June that he signed a contract extension. Then it quickly disapeared.... Odd, but by the end of the season, I think he will sign an extension.
  11. I was at Dick's Sporting goods last week and saw a Jagr Flyers shirt while in the checkout line. For two seconds it crossed my mind that the shirt would look good at a game. Then reality set in, it's still a Jagr shirt no matter what color it is. I like how the guy has been playing and he has been doing wonders with Giroux, but at the end of the day JJ is and always will be JJ.
  12. Will Mark Recchi wear his sweet Bruins Leather jacket for the pre-game skate? I wouldn't really consider Mark Recchi Flyers Alumni. I mean he went on to win 2 cups elsewhere.
  13. Wow, maybe the puck hog Kovy will give some of his trillion dollar salary back to help the cause. Or not.....
  14. @Illflyaway I was thinking along the line of have Read be the finisher, JvR the banger and Schenn centering the line. That is a fast line with a little time may be able to generate some offensive threats. My only concern with this is, what to do with Courts when Schenn returns.
  15. He (JvR) needs solid line mates. When Schenn comes back JvR and Read would look great flanking him. Lavy is turning into the Andy Reid of NHL head coaching. (Oh crap did I make a Kauto-esque reference?) I just don't get some of his moves, i.e., Shelley on a line with Briere? Simmonds in the shootout? Orange ties for all home games?
  16. Lavy has benched JvR on numerous occasions before with little or no results. I hope it sinks in this time, but my finger is starting to point towards Lavy with all his line juggling. He needs to keep the same guys together at all times barring injury. And WTF he went with Simmonds on the shootout? That was the laziest attempt at a shoot out (From Simmonds) that I have ever witnessed. Maybe he should bench Simmonds before JvR. Wayne must be sick or something because he was get man handled big time yesterday. Anyhow, the other night you could hear Berube and JvR going at it on the bench (the Vs mic feed was picking it up clear as day). I am starting to suspect that the contract that JvR was rewarded with last summer is going to his head. He (JvR) should be very careful because Holmgren has no problem sending a player off to the hockey gulags..... ask Jeff Carter. In respect to the lines, I would like to see: Hartnell-Giroux-Jagr Simmonds-Briere-Voracek JvR-Couturie-Nodl Rinaldo-Talbot-Harry Z Oh and if they can send Lilja back to Detroit that would be great. Other than that, Lavy needs to simplify the breakouts because they are spending a lot of time back peddling in their own zone. Speaking as Lavy: "For every cross ice d-zone pass that I see there should be 20 lashings. And if you must pass the biscuit through the D Zone, you better put some damn heat on it." Well that is what I would say if I were Lavy.
  17. Interesting, I did not know that. Imagine that, our weakness is a strength on another team......typical.
  18. That came out wrong Blocker. It was supposed to be like WOW....(the Flyers are bad at faceoffs)...... Blocker is right in the respect of getting somebody to teach these kids how to take a draw. Hey their (Flyers) new thing is just falling on the puck during the faceoff.
  19. This forum is great. It crushes philly.com hands down. It's fast, easy to navigate and does not crash. To me, even without the trolls, philly.com was getting worse than hockeytraderumors.com (if anybody ever posted there) Good to see a lot of familiar peeps from the old boards and I looking forwards to discussing the season with you guys. Anybody from clarkemustgo or hockeybuzz pre2007?
  20. Who was the Flyers last Faceoff Beast? Aside from Carter, I cannot remember one for the last 5 years or so. Brindy was good, Premeau? Wow... Blocker is right, they can get an old Salt in there to teach these kids how to win a damn faceoff
  21. @Spinorama Yeah it is pretty bad when you are worse than Lilja. What is the deal with Bartulis? Did he run over Lavy's dog?
  22. Great signing, Shea Weber will look Great in the O&B next season.....
  23. @Leach27 I would imagine that they have to get somebody that is a solid 5-6 guy. I didn't like the "Walker will be back" comment though. I thought he would be gone forever.
