  1. Yes, I hear you about having to essentially give up trying to take the family. We have. My wife and I now just make the annual trip to Vancouver to watch the Flyers game only, which is usually around X-mas, so we make it a gift to ourselves.  At least now with the realignment we get to see them every year.

Yes, taking the kids to the game is a special event.  I still remember the very first time I walked out of the concourse and into the seating area, to see that great big open space, all the seats and the ice.  I remember it as surreal.  Its really a shame that is has become unaffordable to the average working family.

I can only imagine what it would have been like in the Spectrum.  My goal was to watch a game in there before they tore it down, but it never happened due to having young children.  Then in 2010, when we were thatclose to winning the Cup, I told my wife if the Flyers win, we are getting on a plane and going to the parade!!

Well, we all know how that turned out.

  2. Wow, that's cheap.  $90 each.

I went to the Flyers/Canucks game right before New Years.  We got a deal on our tickets through one of the local hotels, which included two tickets and the room for $450.  The face value of the tickets were $195 each.  The seats were in the lower bowl, in the corner by the red line, where Luongo defends twice.

Makes it hard to justify taking the family (5) to the good 'ole hockey game at those prices!

I'm not sure how much Season Tickets are in Vancouver, though, to compare to Philly.

Hey, how are you doing? Your exactly right and I remember you preaching this fact at the end of last year during that meaningless winning streak.

With the luck of the Flyers, I know it would never happen, but Ekblad and McDavid would definitely be cornerstones from which to build around. Add in the way Mason has been playing and I think we'd have a heck of a team in a few years.

Tonight against the Rangers will be a battle for last spot in the Metro (I hate that name BTW) with the loser getting a leg up on the Ekblad sweepstakes! We all know however, Homer is going to make a bad trade in the relatively near future in an attempt to save his job, which will further hurt the development of the team.

  4. Agree completely!

It's a long wait.... 5 years?  But the wait would be worth it.  Keeping Mason and developing another young goalie as a backup would be the way to go.

Will the Flyers have the patience to do it.  I don't want to answer that.

I hear you on that one, as we all know the answer to that question.

I'm somewhat of a believer everything happens for a reason, so I'm hoping this "what is turning out to be a crappy season" will result in us coming dead last, so we would be guaranteed at least one of the two, Ekblad or Reinhart!

  5. The way the Flyers have been playing has not given me much hope in turning this thing around this year and last night against the Pens, it really showed the difference between a quality Pens team and our Flyers, as we were pinned in our own end 5 on 5 many times, but looked like a powerplay for the Pens.

With that being said, the only consolation I can come up with is the possiblity of selecting one of these two players in this years draft.  Personally, I'd take Elblad and start building the team from the back end out, as Mason is proving he is a goalie we can build around, but if we end up dead last and lose the lottery again, Reihart is a pretty darn good consolation prize.

I'm willing to accept this poor season with the hope of drafting Ekblad, and hoping for a second poor season next year, while we play some of our young kids, in an attempt to draft McDavid.

I know its a long shot, but the only glimmer of hope I can pull out of this disaster of a season is that we can draft a couple of *real* stars in the next couple of years and build this team the right way.

  6. It sure is, unlike OUR year, when we had two choices, JVR or Turris.... and Drouin is going to be one heck of a player too! Man that guy has hands!

  7. Personally, I'd take MacKinnon based on what he has done all year and especially after the Memorial Cup. From the Av's perspective, I'd take Jones based on the Denver connection and media relations, as well as the fact that they already have a good young forward group and need to imrpove the D. Additionally, the type of D-men that Jones is projected to be is even more rare, so if I'm the Av's GM, I take Jones with the first pick but man is that a tough decision!

  8. @flyercanuck I watched parts of the game flipping back and forth between it and the Kings/Sharks game. What a game! Like you said Halifax game out flying but Portland battled back to make it interesting. MacKinnon definitely is going to put some doubts in the minds of the scouts, but because Colorado has 1st pick, and the history of Jones in Denver, they will probably still take Jones #1.

  9. 2009 Pittsburgh beats Philly, wins the Cup; 2010 Chicago beats Philly, wins the Cup; 2011 Boston beats Philly, wins the Cup. Last year, never happened, but three of the past four years, we lost to the eventual Cup champs.

  10. I have a bad feeling that they will go on a bit of a run, but fall short and miss the playoffs. Then, as a result of the run, they will move out of a top 10 pick in the draft and then draft another center. If the Flyers didn't have bad luck, they'd have no luck at all! I hoping we miss the playoffs and are able to draft Nurse!

  11. Absolutley agree FC, stop with the high priced FA's that don't work out and start focusing on this years draft. Looks like we'll definitely have a top ten pick with the way things are going!

That's crazy money for Perry, too. Glad we had the lockout to save the owners from themselves!

I want to make to that part of the world, but we typically hit Mexico, switching coasts when we get a chance to go, as it's a pretty good bang for the buck! Sounds like you are taking your life into your own hands trying to fish in Coast Rica! lol! Must be exciting though!

The boys are now 5, 7 and 9, so not a lot of free time for dad! I'm guessing our next vacation will be Line-up Land, or I should say Disney Land, as the boys are putting on the pressure and the youngest is getting big enough to handle most of the rides! I'm not too excited about it, as I've been there, done that and got the T-shirt but as anyone knows who has young kids, it's not about what dad wants!

  13. @flyercanuck

Hey there, how's it going with you? Sounds like you had a great vacation recently. I thought I read somewhere you went to Costa Rica, again?

I'm here most days, I just don't have a lot of time to post so I read a few threads and get back to work. I'll try to contribute more often.

The fishing was great in the summer on the West Coast and pretty good out front this year for the winter Springs. Right now the prawn fishing is good. I haven't been out as much as I like with work getting in the way and raising three young boys! The latter usually keeps me in the bush camping / trout fishing or up the mountain skiiing!

I missed the game on the weekend, (up skiiing) but I was glad to see we got back to .500, and hopefully we can keep it going!
