  1. This is all fascinating, but i take it as irrelevant. This is a new team, with a new coach, and new management. Some key players remain. So be it. i will still circle back and say that Laughton was not traded because the Flyers value him higher than any other team, and did not get the value they wanted. If they had, he would be wearing another sweater and I’d finally STFU about it this forum also values Laughton in a way that I don’t. I still say if he is so good at uniting the room, and being a role model for younger players, why was he not given the C? I don’t recall very many posts on here touting Coots as having the same locker room ability as Laughton. I take Coots being made captain as a clear indication that Laughtons “intangibles” are overhyped. As alluded to by others here, in the absence of better options, Laughton stands out by default
  2. This makes me think of Dave Poulun. Who I loved. not to you specifically, but the question still remains….if he so good in this role, and so vital, why isn’t he the Captain? Why was 14 given that role? And also, why are they trying to trade the guy who is the glue that holds the team together? the two things seem to contradict
  3. I’m on board with your POV here. In a lot of ways it’s exactly how I feel. You’re just more tactful and eloquent in delivering it maybe your the Laughton of the forum
  4. If he so good at this mystery role, why wasn’t he named Captain? You don’t have to remind everyone. I’m all alone on This crusade. Everyone else dotes on the guy. As for his contract, if you don’t have to move him, why are you trying?
  5. This right here. This is the crux of my issue with this player. What is this value? What is its true worth? Does it equate to wins? Does it equate to advancing this team. If it did, they wouldn’t be willing to trade him. Hanging on to a guy because you like him, and not moving him for something more valuable (the 13 pick is more valuable IMO) is right on par with the nonsense that has kept the team from getting better. If he’s so good at what he does, and he’s so valuable at it, why try to trade him fact is they don’t get what they wanted because they overvalued his worth, and no other teams will over pay for those “intangibles” Bullshcit! You’re in a rebuild. Your entire plan is based on that. You don’t keep players for nostalgia. What will his excuse be IF they don’t make the playoffs? Yeah, you did him a solid in that case by not reading him Then he’s an idiot. Because you obviously can’t trade him for more than he’s worth, no one wants him. Wait…I know, maybe he figures at seasons end, after they don’t make the playoffs, Laughtons value will be higher. Maybe he’ll finally score 20 goals
  6. I undedrstand Seeler. I also understand why they kept him. I guess I would want to know what the return would be to determine if it was worth it to keep a "Character" guy Laughton, I dont think they had an offer they liked. All reports were they wanted a first. Im guessing the rest of the league thought he wasn't worth that. I agree with them. I'd rather have Seeler In the end, I think they are sticking to the plan. There is noting here that will make me anxious...other than watching a game and NOT hearing Laughtons name mentioned through two periods
  7. which players did they keep that you think they should have jettisoned? The one they "fell in love" with?
  8. Aaaand just like that, the wheels come off! game over. Maybe next time
  9. There is that, but he just looks like an annoying dipschit. A lot like that little bytch in pissburg everytime I see them, I wanna punch them in the face
  10. Austin Matthews is a talent d player, but every time I see his face I just want to punch him
  11. Here’s another fun fact: in 8 seasons Simmons scored 203 goals, and had 784 penalty minutes in his captain like ascent to Flyer legend, Laughton has not yet scored over 100 goals, and he hasn’t reached 250 penalty minutes, but he has played 11 seasons, all with the Flyers
  12. Even though I don’t know what it is, it seems to me that DB has a plan. None of the moves bringing in these older players seem permanent. They have a way out. And like I mentioned in another post, having 4 firsts in the next two drafts is a big win. I would consider 4 firsts more valuable than 6 or 8 middle to late rounders. since things are what they are for the remainder of the season, instead of worrying about the unknown future of this team, I’m going to enjoy the ride hoping they have a playoff run and give us something to cheer for
  13. I’m of the opinion that you can be in a rebuild, and also make the playoffs. This sport is not a vacuum. Just because your team is young and inexperienced, doesn’t mean you can’t exceed expectations. Just because you are a certain age, doesn’t mean you can’t play good hockey. DB came out and said he traded for EJ as a stabilizing presence for what is happening right now, this season. I’m not sure what the issue is here? Should they just pack it and not even try? Should they just tell all the current players, GFY, we don’t care how hard you’ve played, it’s doesn’t fit our plan, so we need to NOT make the playoffs in hopes that we draft some player(s) that will help us make the playoffs? im sure that would go over well. the players would love it. also, when GMs make trades, none of us have inside details on what took place. We can all sit here and argue what WE think should have happened, but that’s not how the real hockey world works
  14. Of course they will, it’s the Flyers. If they cloned Gretzky in his prime, and signed him for 1 million a year for 10 years, Flyer fan would argue the term was too long and the guy is too small
