On a weaker team like the Flyers, Frost actually is a second line center. He has 18 points in 34 games and is a  plus 8. If you factor points per games played, he's our fourth leading scorer.  All the guys ahead of him have been in the league longer.  People were writing off Farabee in previous years now he's really stepped up. I wouldn't give up on Frost yet, we have no centers in our system and Coots is over thirty with a bad back.  Even if we draft a center tomorrow, it's 3-4 years before he is any kind of factor. For the next 2-3 years we have no other options bit Frost unless we trade for a good young center and other than Hart or TK, we have nothing to offer to get us this center.

Oh, I'm not arguing to get rid of Frost. I've been a Frost cheerleader. He does seem to be learning the defensive side so moving him to wing could potentially screw some of that up (not trying to overstate that,  but responsibilities in the defensive end are different). I'd keep him at C the rest of the season and see how he progresses. If not, I try him at wing before doing something more drastic.

you're really sold on him aren't you? I'm getting there...I hate that the Flyers' 2C (usually) only has 7 goals in 34 games and his assist count (11) is tied with Walker, Atkinson, Foerster and Owen Tippet the guy who "can't use his line mates." (sorry - totally uncalled for).

Frost is defending really well and w/out the puck his game is noticeable nearly every night. Hopefully he can get some production going for himself in the 2nd half.

I'd rather Frost played wing. I still don't think he's an NHL center. Certainly not a 2C.  If we had an actual 2C, I'd think about 3C, but i don't see a lot of offense coming from him at center.

It's hard for me to see that Sid, being a fierce competitor that he is, genuinely doesn't want to make the playoffs.  I find it hard to believe.

Well  he's pre-menopausal, so Sid is going to get a little more tired and faster due to the withdrawal from sudden surges in estrogen.

I wonder how close this will be. Not sure they have the room for this and being able to add a lot in the future.

In theory (I feel like "in theory" should be boldfaced, 20 pica, italicized, underlined...)

When TK hits UFA, we'll have Cam Atkinson off the books if we haven't traded hi yet.  Same with Hathaway.   Depending how long and how much of a deal we sign Tippett, Poehling (if), and Brink to, we should be able to swing it.  Sean Walker, Staal, and Seeler combined don't give us much more runway.  I guess the heartburn will be the Hart contract, but he'll be RFA so it's still manageable unless he only extends one year.

It's the Couturier contract that will be the albatross by then.   25-26 should be the year we're going for it "in case" some of these necessary signings don't pan out and it sets us ack.   York will be an RFA at the same time we're attempting to sign TK, so that could be a thing.    Petersen comes off the books, though, so maybe it all pans out.

I'm glad I don't have to track/gameplan this crap for my job, though.

If you want to keep any of these older guys it should be Walker in my eyes.

I actually agree with this.   Your whole post, for that matter.  I guess we have to see if they'll even be able to sig Seeler, though I don't think it's a particularly heavy lift.  I think there will be a limit on salary and term, so if Seeler thinks there's a better offer out there, maybe he takes it.  But I think if the Flyers offer, he's taking.

I knew it fcuk the rebuild same ol same ol...

...i'm sure there is a logical explanation for it....they would rather lock the Norris candidate up long term than lose him for nothing.

    :bonkingheadonwall:

If we can do it and a manageable term and cost ($2-$2.5M/3 yrs), I'm fine with it provided we can move Risto (+ retain) and Walker at the deadline.  If that were to happen we'd have Drysdale, York, Sanheim, and Seeler going into next year.  I'm actually okay with Wallker on the same kind of deal, but if we can move him for prospects/picks even better.   Plus, we have Andrae and Bonk in the system.  I guess Ginning, too, but I'm thinking if he was going to be something, he'd be here by now.

Merzlikins is not a number one goalie for any team who is being serious. Overpaid, does not have killer instinct. Offer a bag of well used warm up pucks and take on half his salary the CBJ will be glad to dump him. Puff puff pass.

Was thinking along very similar lines.  The only reason he has a job at all is that all of their goalies suck.

If they want to see if Daniil or Spencer are #1 goalies, I can save them the trouble:  they're not. But they ARE cheaper garbage.

And I approve of what they did maybe this was the best return they could but you'll never know if you don't ask anyone.

From all accounts, they did though.   And honestly, after the WJC he just had now was the time to get the best deal you're going to get.

And again, I'm not even sure what better than a plug & play 1:6 RHD 21 year old dman plus a 2nd looks like.

I'm not trying to pile on, just sharing my take on the asking because I thought both the Flyers and the media have raved about how FOs around the league knew and did a great job of keeping the whole thing quiet.  I assumed--I guess this is an assumption--that's because he was shopped.

I dunno, I really think RW is a need, too. The Flyers are, for starters, very under-sized at the position, lacking offensive pop outside of Konecny, and don't knock me out defensively.

1RW: Konecny - Very good player.

2RW: Atkinson - Getting old and will need to be replaced.

3RW: Tippett - I mentioned him yesterday, and I think he's far from being the answer. Nice release, but doesn't use his linemates at all and is poor defensively. Ideal 3RW, would be poor as a regular 2RW.

Brink - on the cusp... If a player hasn't been able to produce much by 21, the odds of him ever doing so are pretty low. Small guys without explosive speed don't usually have notable careers. He's too small to do much if he doesn't work out as a scoring winger, and I don't recall scouting reports or viewings impressing me about his defensive ability.

    -----

I seem to recall somebody, in the last few days, mentioning that Konecny should be moved to improve other positions. Personally, I think a RW depth chart of Atkinson, Tippett, Brink and 4RW replacement to be terrible, but that's just my opinion.

    You are correct.

Danny’s transparency is something I don’t know if I’ve ever seen or heard in professional sports. What an awesome press conference.  Total respect….

Per DB …. Cutter’s camp gave no reason to why he changed his mind…

This is why i always say, "don't take the prospect to Pat's on the first visit." There are MUCH better options.

(And no, Steve's Prince of Steaks is not one of them. Come at me.)
