  1. I’m pretty sure we all feel this way as fans because we haven’t had a GM who knew how to build a winner since Keith Allen. My favorite teams of the 1980s were built by Allen and then were slowly eroded / evicerated by the parade of fair to bad GMs since. To be fair the GMs since Allen were good at acquiring flashy players and talent at times but were lousy at building a team that could win in the long run. That is actually what they hired Hextall for but then they pulled the plug on him early and frankly as time goes on it doesn’t look like his picks are panning out as planned anyway. My hope with the current management is that they are looking long term to build a winner the proper way. It’s way to early to judge if they will be successful but similar to Hexy their hearts are in the right place and we are going to have to wait and see about how their long term plan unfolds.
  2. I agree 100% with this. I also have a sense that with the current management they are not naive to the fact that they are not yet a cup contender so whatever happens I don’t expect they will mortgage the future to “win now” even if they make it and then go on a little run.
  3. Wow an A-Mac reference! Now there is a guy I haven’t thought about in a while! Thanks for reminding me of that horror show. As April fools is coming up let’s go down memory lane and read together this April Fools piece written about A-Mac! https://brotherlypuck.com/2021/04/01/andrew-macdonald-was-the-hero-we-needed-and-we-were-too-blind-to-see-it/
  4. An actual Flyers victory vs Boston, We Welcome You!
  5. Reason #2817 why I don’t miss having season tickets. I felt like the day was wasted and was in a foul mood over the loss on top of that
  6. That’s exactly how I felt when I left Tonawanda and moved back home to Philly area in 2008 and got my Season Tix. I’m sure I discussed that at length back then on Philly.com Sabres fans were some of the worst and most abusive toward me and the Flyers and I cheered every one of their losses when they lost to Stars in the SCF, Canes in 2006 ECF and Senators in 2007 ECF. They have basically sucked since.
  7. This is starting to remind me of the Eagles “gauntlet” from this past season.
  8. BTW while we are on the topic of Pelle and the Porche. My kid had a game at the Flyers practice facility in Vorhees NJ, so while they were dressing and warming up I made a pilgrimage to the site of Pelle’s demise. The Sommerdale school is long closed down and boarded up and looks like a haunted house. That horrible wall is still there along with the steps he crashed into. I sat there at the impact zone (that corner in the attached photo) and while I didn’t cry I did get very emotional and thought about Pelle the rest of the weekend. It brought back a flood of memories and that gnawing feeling of “what if”? / “if only”! I mean if he had hit the wall he would have sideswiped it and bounced off and had some injuries and paid a hefty fine for DUI. But he had to ram into that opening where the stairway is. I wasn’t prepared for how much visiting would grip me and affect me to be honest. It was surreal.
  9. Ahh thanks for that context! That makes sense what you are saying and explains why as soon as I choose to begin my journey back they are struggling. In some ways missing the PO could be a blessing so we see what we could be but don’t get too comfortable that we are there and then also get a better draft pick along the way.
  10. Ok so what I am getting a few games in is they are who we thought they were talent wise, but attitude wise they have an edge and can win some scrappy games. Soooo we need more talent to win is basically the conclusion here and when they arrive we will have the scrappy attitude and swagger to back it up. These absolute drubbing games at home were just murder to your soul as a STH. You paid good money fought horrible traffic, found free parking (well I did anyway), walked far, bought overpriced food and drink, and then watched your team get destroyed and sullenly skulked back to your car, potentially fought more traffic on the way home and wondered why you didn’t just stay home with your family. Nahhh I don’t miss it but if they get better and Hilferty keeps reviving the team back to what they were intended as founded, I could see a game plan in my future. I have it with the Phillies and it has been AWESOME.
  11. Bump! Hmmmm some clairvoyance from trevluk?
  12. What I remember most besides him being old and slow was him taking out Mr. Ed Crosby’s teeth.
  13. What a pair they were! On the old Philly.com board we used to “affectionately” refer to them as “Hathje”
  14. Wow thanks for reminding me again of some of the MANY reasons I dropped my season tickets!
  15. Sorry guys it’s my fault…as soon as I come back they implode again. I’m the mush
  16. This was 1 of many steps that needed for me to consider coming back to the team. Now that we are a year in what grade would you and the message board give Danny B so far? I would give a rating if I had better knowledge as to his full body of work but honestly, I’ve been so unplugged from the team I am not qualified at the moment to give a proper evaluation.
  17. Hmmm looks like I picked a bad day to stop sniffing glue. What a return for me to watching the team again .
  18. Thanks also for the kind words, it’s good to see that I’m not alone in my feelings about what happened with the team last decade or more. I was 9 when I started liking the Flyers and now, I’m a couple years away from 50. I guess you could say I grew up a bit too and lost some of my undying devotion for the team and focused on stuff that matters more.
  19. Thanks for the kind words it’s nice to be back and glad to hear I’m not the only one who became a bit jaded.
  20. I met him too at a “Meet the team” event and he was my favorite player at the time. While I wasn’t expecting him to become my best friend, he could have uttered at least a word or 2. I was trying to tell him how much we appreciated his hard work and was thanking him for signing my stuff and he didn’t say a thing and barely looked at me. It was a bit disappointing as most players I’ve met at least treated me like a fellow human being .
  21. Many thanks, it’s good to be back.
