  1. Bryz stopped 25 of 26 shots Sat night and is to report to the Oilers on Monday. Tuesday the Oilers host the Columbus Blue Jackets, which means we could see a Bryzgalov start vs. Bobrovsky. Ironic eh? I do hope we get to see this matchup.
  2. It only took 12 seconds for the Blackhawks to put the game out of the Blues reach last night in St. Louis and today the Blues are singing the Blues. The Blackhawks faced a little adversity when starting tender, The Crow, left the game after stopping all six St Louis shots in the first period (see below). The Razor replaced him to begin the second period, but the song remained the same for the Blues as Razor put up a brick wall: zero goals. St. Louis presented the most physical opponent the Hawks have faced to date, and openly wanted to take the action to the Blackhawks out of the gate. But Captain Serious put home the first goal of the game and that proved to be all the Blackhawks needed. As the game got a little more physical and chippy, Q put Carbomb on the top line and that “encouraged” the Blues to back off the stupid crap against Tazer and Big Hoss. With that said, having Saad and CarBomb who can skate in the spot on the top line is indeed quite a luxury. Once again, the Blackhawks penalty killers were outstanding as they blanked the NHL's top power play in four opportunities. I mentioned yesterday, the Blues entered the game scoring 30.3 percent of the time with a man advantage but came up empty as they only had five shots on the PK against the Hawks. Note the Blues were without three of their top forwards, but who gives a sh!t, the streak continues. Tonight, for the second time in less than a week, the Blue Jackets have an opportunity to put a halt to the Blackhawks record-setting streak at the Madhouse. Looking back at the two games already played between the two teams already in this shortened season, it's that tonight's game will not be an easy one for the Blackhawks. Both prior meetings with the Blue Jackets this season have been tightly-contested, physical games, with one-goal decisions that could have easily gone either way. As I mentioned previously, a questionable disallowed goal on Jan. 26 at Nationwide Arena wiped out a tying goal for Columbus in the second period (eventually a 3-2 final) and just last weekend at the Madhouse, the Blackhawks escaped with a 1-0 win as the Blue Jackets put on a late push in the 3rd period. The Blackhawks better be ready. Out of tonight's contest are former Blackhawk James Wisniewski and for the Blackhawks The Crow and The Rat (that’s Dave Bolland for all of you young hockey players). Regarding The Crow: I have a feeling that Blackhawk fans and the Blackhawks themselves, might need to prepare for the Crow to be out for some time. As I previously mentioned, it was rumored the Crow’s last injury was a concussion, suffered against the Ducks. And it sure looked like that was again the problem last night as he could barely leave the ice after 20 minutes. That leaves the goaltending of the league’s best team in the hands of theRazor and former Calgary backup Henrik Karlsson. Below are the NHL Rankings of the two teams: Blue Jackets 5-12-3 13pts: Goals for: 2.15 (29) Goals against: 3.00 (21) PP%: 12.2 (29) PK%: 83.8 (10) Blackhawks 17-0-3 35pts: Goals for: 3.10 (4) Goals against : 1.70 (1) PP%: 18.0 (12) PK%: 89.3 (2) Did you know: 1) Congratulations to the Razor, who was named the NHL's 3rd Star for February, going 7-0-0 with a 1.66 GAA 2) The Blackhawks now are two games behind the 28-game streak set by the 1977-78 Montreal Canadiens. (The Blackhawks' reach is the most consecutive games with at least one point. Chicago stretched its streak to 26 games (the Blackhawks finished last season 3-0-3) by beating the Blues.) 3) Blues fans couldn’t wait to tell you how much it meant for them to end the Blackhawks point streak. Now they’ll tell you how much it matters that they were missing key players. Seriously, I don't give a damn as it doesn’t matter, they’re still missing two points. Tonight's expected Hawks lineup Offense: Saad Tazer Hossa Sharpie Krugs Kaner Bicks Shaw Stalberg Carbomb Meyer Frolik Defense: Seabs Keith Hammer O-do-ya Rozsival Leddy Netminder: Razor GO HAWKS!
  3. First, Congrats to the Blackhawks on setting the record! At 14-0-3, the Hawks set an NHL record by going 17 straight games without a regulation loss to open a season with the win over San Jose on Friday night. Tonight, the beloved Blackhawks face the 5-11-2 Columbus Blue Jackets who are capping off a six game road trip (going 1-4). To simply look at the team records and one would say that tonight's should be a cake walk for the Hawks. However, the Blue Jackets have a new coach and a new team slogan “Lead the Charge” since the Hawks last played them in January. If the Blue Jackets are to end the Hawks streak tonight at the Madhouse, they'll need to do a lot of what they did in their last meeting with Hawks. If you recall, the Hawks escaped that game due to a questionable goaltender interference call (and disallowed game-tying goal). In that contest the Blue Jackets gave the Hawks one of their better tests of the season. Tonight, the Hawks look to avoid a let down and continue their stellar play. The Crow is expected back in net after recovering from a mild concussion. The Rat is out tonight. Below are the NHL Rankings of the two teams: Sharks 5-11-2 12pts: Goals for: 2.17 (28) Goals against: 3.00 (21) PP%: 13.2 (27) PK%: 82.9 (13) Hawks 14-0-3 31pts: Goals for: 3.34 (4) Goals against : 1.88 (2) PP%: 18.1 (13) PK%: 88.7 (3) Did you know: 1) Emery is 7-0-0 on the season and has a goals-against average of 2.10 2) Ryan Clowe, San Jose has been suspended a minimum of 6 games for coming off the bench Friday night to go after Shaw adfter Shaw labeled San Joses Pavelski into the boards just before the game ended. 3) Big Hoss has three goals and five assists during a six-game point streak against Columbus, while Tazer has four goals and four assists in his last five. Tonight's expected Hawks lineup Offense: Saad Tazer Big Hoss Sharpie Krugs Kaner Bicks Shaw Stalberg Carbomb Meyer Frolik Defense: Seabs Keith Hammer O-do-ya Rozsival Leddy Netminder: The Crow Go HAWKS!
  4. A couple of years too late. There is speculation that Dave Taylor might be a candidate for the job. He was the GM in LA for quite some time and is currently serving as the VP of Hockey Operations in St. Louis where he worked for Davidson. Prior to that he was the Director of Player Personnel in Dallas. Bob McKenzie added via Twitter that the team may consider Finnish executive Jarmo Kekalainen as a potential replacement. Kekalainen served as assistant GM and director of amateur scouting under Davidson in St. Louis starting in 2002. McKenzie reported that sources tell him Kekalainen is in the third year of a five-year deal to manage Finnish Elite League leaders Jokerit, but he has an out clause should an NHL opportunity arise. 5. The MVP Challenge continues with the Blue Jackets. -----play and earn tokens for "pickem" Note: poll and topic end 8 / 11 1. Tokens are earned for the MVP Summer Challenge by voting and posting discussion in each team MVP category or playoff challenge. 2. All team MVP's will be chosen from a poll of 5 team candidates. 3. Members earn five tokens per vote and for each and every quality discussion post within every MVP topic to a maximum of 50 tokens per Challenge. 4. It is recommended to participate in discussion prior to voting, as discussions will influence votes. 5. A new Team or MVP matchup poll and discussion will begin M-Th each week until Hockey Forums 2012 MVP is chosen in October. 6. All poll topics posted within one week will close Sat evening the following week. 7. If any re-do polls are needed due to major player trades they will be repeated on Fridays. (hopefully we won't need many of these) Consider the following questions when discussing and voting for each Team MVP and Matchup category: 1. Who is this teams most valuable player factoring in point production, leadership qualities, and overall tenacity/grit? 2. Which player is most essential to the teams success next season. 3. If you were the GM of this team and needed to rebuild with one player, whom would you choose? 4. Which player would cause their team to struggle the most if out with a season ending injury? 5. Which player and or prospect projects to be the teams most valuable player next year? Also, since the MVP Challenge is part fantasy: 1. If you were the coach which linemates would play with your MVP to enhance his play? 2. What parts of the players game need most improvement? 3. What type of numbers do you think this player can put up this upcoming season? 4. And any other player related info, stats, videos, etc to enhance discussion.
  6. Kane apparently is on the trading block. Is Nash the answer? Apparently Kane and Jack Johnson are close friends. Is this a fair deal straight up?
  7. Tyler Myers To Return By Friday? The Buffalo Sabers D-man Tyler Myers has been out since suffering a broken wrist Nov. 19, he said today he is fully healed and is hopeful of returning Friday when the Sabres visit Carolina. Today at the First Niagara Center Myers said to the press that he hopes he is ready to go by friday. He also said that he has no physcial pain on his writst when he does a fast moving motion (like taking a slap shot) but he would like to take it easy when playing his first few weeks back. Blue Jacket Trade Rumors Heat Up Jackets GM Scott Howson has mentioned that he is going to make his last-placed club and make it a top 10 team. He has also mentioned that his team will be shaken up in the up comming weeks leading to the Febuary, 27 trade dealine. Now the Columbus Dispatch has mentioned that the Blue Jackets' players are feeling some sort of effects that moves are comming up and they are worried who might be the next out. Some big names that have been mentioned to be traded are Rick Nash and Jeff Carter. Rumors around the web are indicating that Jeff Carter to the Toronto Maple Leafs but there is no response on who the Leafs will give back. Don't expect Center man Derick Brassard to be shiped off, he has been a target of many trade talks all season long but he has been pretty calm right now for the past few weeks and seems he has found his spot on the 4th line. I'm thinking that the Leafs and Jackets will have a trade in deal but on the Leafs end it has been quiet. GM Brian Burke has not said anything about a trade with the Jackets but yet again Burke is very unpredictable Shea Weber Back On The Ice The Nashville Predators start defenseman Shea Weber practiced without contact on Tuesday for the first time since suffering the injury on December 23 2011 againts the Dallas Stars, Says ESPN. The 26 year-old had skated with his teammates in a public practice in Franklin, but Nashville coach Barry Trotz maintains that there is still not a realistic time line for when the Predators Captian will return. Weber had played 35 games this season scoring 8 goals and racking up 21 assists for a total of 29 points. The Preds will start talking contract neogations with Weber in the up coming weeks as he is secheduled to become a RFA in July. Nashville's GM David Poile has mentioned more thn once that he realy wants to sign Weber to a long-term extension and his value will increase significantly. Detroit To Host The 2013 Winter Classic It has yet not been confirmed but it will be within the next few days to the next week. But the Detroit Red Wings will be hosting the 2013 Winter Classic, and the Toronto Maple Leafs will be visiting and or the Avalanche and maybe even the Sharks. Since the Rangers and Flyers Winter Classic had such low ratings the NHL wants to mix it up and put some "Random'' teams in. But the Leafs and Wings have a fun history together so if they where to play it be very good. And another rumor is that the Blues might have a part in that Winter Classic also, since the Blues been having a lot of issues having them play in the Winter Classic would be great for there franchise. There will also be a HBO 24/7 Road To The Winter Classic special.
