  1. Usually any NHL outdoor game creates a lot of anticipation for fans. The Winter Classics and the Stadium Series are an event almost every fan, regardless of what team you cheer for, take interest in. The one thing that piques the most curiosity on these games is always the grand, jersey reveal. There’s just one problem: The Flyers jersey was leaked. Not once, but twice. Also, the Penguins jersey was leaked along with the second time the Flyers jersey was leaked. Ouch! Someone was way too excited to show these off! The leaks soured any excitement fans had left about the official reveal. It was a bad kept secret. We got wind of these photos 4 days before the official unveiling and it was reported everywhere amongst Hockey focused Facebook pages and Instagram fan pages. It is clearly stated that these Stadium Series jerseys are supposed to resemble the “black and yellow construction signs” of Steel City to honour Pittsburgh’s history and all of those bright yellow bridges the city is famous for. What came out was an NFL colour rush jersey which is coincidentally similar to the Pittsburgh Steelers jersey they wore this season. The fade between the yellow and black along the detailed parts of the jersey is a nice touch to modernize the look. The “A Great Day For Hockey” punchline along the neckline is unoriginal for two reasons: 1) The font used for the lettering is the same as the letter font as the name lettering used for the 2017 Stadium Series jerseys. 2) The punchline itself is very generic and doesn’t pay tribute to anything connected with anything Pittsburgh specific at all. The Penguins would of made up for the blandness of the sweater by adding a patch honouring their back-to-back Stanley Cup championships during the 2016 and 2017 cup runs. That is missed opportunity because there isn’t knowing when the Pens will get another chance of participating in an outdoor game. Besides the differing shades of yellow and the striping, there isn’t much of difference between the Steelers Color Rush and Penguins Stadium Series jerseys. POSITIVES: The fade of the logo is a nice touch Modernization is apparent and distinguishable Letter kits are simple and match the jersey seamlessly CRITIQUES: Slanted yellow sleeves makes the overall pattern of the jersey awkward Punchline along neck is generic and cheesy Missed opportunity to utilize patch for back-to-back Stanley Cups (stripes along sleeves don’t count) Looks too much like the Steelers Color Rush jersey PHILADELPHIA FLYERS To go with the theme for the 2019 Stadium Series, the Flyers added a nice fade along the logo cutting out the white between the wing and orange dot in the middle of the logo. It’s clean and the orange and black were utilized the right way. The black name plate is a great touch to with the Flyer’s unique theme of adding offsetting name plates on most off their jersey designs. The black stripes along the sleeves are simple yet welcome feature about the jersey. The “Philly” signature along the neckline is used with an original font and it’s crisp. That feature might be used in future marketing efforts on how to effectively use it as a shoulder patch or along somewhere on the neck for a new jersey in the future. POSITIVES: Orange and black go well with modern twist on the jersey overall Black stripes along lower sleeve fit in nicely Fade along logo is clean Capitalized opportunity of the off-setting nameplate “Philly” along the neckline is a good touch CRITIQUES: A patch or punchline along the neck commemorating the “The City of Brotherly Love” would of been a great add-on since the Flyers are hosting.
  2. THE DEBATE – Hockey Podcast | Episode 45 Philly Disaster and Bye Bye Berglund$ The Philadelphia Flyers are not in the Christmas spirit as they fire head coach Dave Hakstol. The team is in disarray and Brad Burud and Blake Frairs have their opinions, and they are not very nice. It seems like Philadelphia forgets how to be professional sometimes. Then Patrik Berglund bolts Buffalo and leaves $12 million dollars on the table. Well this one is a shocker and one that no one may figure out. They wrap up the show with Leafs talk as Kyle Dubas makes a bold statment, Ken Hitchcock playing to the officials, and a rejuvenated Pacific Division. It’s an action packed Christmas edition of THE DEBATE Hockey Podcast. PODCAST
  3. A game that could have easily been a high-scoring rout in the Philadelphia Flyers’ favor ended up going the complete opposite way for the New York Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist bounced back from a poor performance against the Buffalo Sabres the night before to dominate the Flyers on national television. The Flyers had a high number of scoring chances throughout the night, only to run into a hot Lundqvist that would not be denied of his team getting the two points on their way out of Philadelphia. The loss creates a complicated matter on the Flyers’ part, as they fall to a measly 1-5-2 since their 10-game winning streak. What complicates things even further has been the recent play of goaltender Steve Mason. After being stellar during their 10-game run, he’s falling back considerably as the team has struggled. It leaves the door open for Michal Neuvirth to return to the crease after his two-month absence because of a knee injury. For the full recap click link below: [Hidden Content]
  4. The Flyers awoke the boring NHL offseason with a loud boom last night. Flyers signed Weber to basically a max contract offer sheet of 14 years and 110 million dollars. Flyers set up this contract with about 26 million in the first year with bonuses paid to Weber and with about 68 million paid out within the first few years depending on which reports you read. Salary cap circumvention? If I was the NJ Devils and the NHL approves this deal I would want a real good reason why I have to give up a 1st round pick next year. I don't know where I come down on all this I am very torn. It was fair game for the Flyers to give Weber the offer sheet, but at the same time it is kicking someone when they are down. As a Sabres fan this brings back awful memories of the 2007 offseason in which the Sabres lost Briere and Drury. The Oilers then came in and offered Vanek an outrageous offer sheet trying to steal him out of Buffalo. Now if you look at the cap hit and market Weber isn't being way overpaid for the player he is. With the loss of Suter I think the Flyers saw blood in the water in Nashville and attacked. In a way Nashville did this to themselves by playing games last season with Weber and taking him to arbitration. I respect the Flyers for their desire to win and they are not afraid to go all in on anything. However this is where I find myself today; this is exhibit A,B, and C of why we will not have hockey until Christmas next season. Owners led heavily by Ed Snider himself are claiming they are losing money. Yet they go throw a max contract at a player and drive up the cap again. With the CBA talks Ed Snider just added another gun to Donald Fehr's holster on top of the insulting first CBA offer by the owners. Also what if in the new CBA their is a rollback of salaries like the last CBA, the Flyers are then stuck in big time cap jail with the Bryzgalov contract already on the books for the next 8 years. From the Nashville standpoint as a small market fan with a big market owner I feel bad for what is occuring right now. If Nashville does not match the offer it could only be a matter of time before they are in danger of being moved out of Nashville. If Weber and Suter are gone, how long until Rinnie wants out? How do you explain losing two of your teams superstars to your new fan base that has started to grow of the last few years? On the other side of the coin if the Preds match they are going to be handcuffed in the future with signing their promising young players. Those people saying that they can trade Weber after one year are not using their brains. Why would Nashville pay him 26 million dollars for one year and then ship him out? Doesn't make sense from a business standpoint. As your reading this you can probably tell my struggle to pick a side on this. In the end I think I am more on the side of the Flyers went into a grey area with this offer sheet. Sure it is not illegal, but at the same time it's a big market bullying a small market. This is not done around the league because GM's have almost an unwritten rule to not pouch on other team's young talent. The reason why perhaps the best player in the game Steven Stamkos was not given an offer sheet last season. It's frowned upon I guess be the best phrase I can use here. For example it isn't illegal to hit in the all star game, but you just don't do it. I also think this move will effect not only the Flyers and Predators, but the other 28 NHL teams as well.
  5. Personally I would rather the Sabres play any of the other 28 NHL teams tonight besides the Flyers. This goes all the way back to game 7 of the playoffs last year, when Philly blew the doors off a injured and overmatched Sabres squad to send them home. Well tonight the Flyers may have that chance again. With a Caps victory against Florida tonight and a Sabres loss the playoff race is over. However flip that scenerio and the Sabres will have a playoff birth by the throat. All that will be needed is a point against a Boston team probably without Chara, Bergeron, Thomas, and other top players. Also both teams could win tonight and then Florida, Buffalo, and Washington will be playing for their playoff lives Saturday. The Flyers themselves are locked in a battle for home ice advantage with the Penguins in the 4-5 matchup. The Pens have a 3 point lead and can lock it up with a win tonight against the Rangers. Personally if I was a Flyer fan I hope for two Flyer L's and two NJ W's and a first round matchup with Florida or Washington. The Flyers come into tonight's game off of a 5-3 loss to the Rangers Tuesday night. Philly forgot the game started at 7 and before they knew what hit them the Rangers put up a 4-0 lead after the one. That would be all King Henrik needed to lock up the division title for New York. Philly comes in a little banged up. They will be without Danny Briere, Andrej Meszaros, and solid trade deadline pickup Nick Grossman. Also Illya Bryzgalov is only playing his second game coming back from a chipped bone/fracture in his foot. Many people do not think he is 100% yet and Buffalo would be smart to take advantage of that. Bryzgalov was red hot in March and the Sabres need to get to him early. Making Bryz uncomfortable should be top priority tonight. Buffalo also comes in with two big injuries. Both Tyler Myers and Christian Ehrhoff will miss the remaining two games and possibly longer. Without those two on the blue line Buffalo has given up 14 goals in two games with the Leafs and one game with the Penguins. That needs to change tonight or the offensively gifted Flyers will end the night quickly. Philly has won all 3 matchups this season. At times they appeared to just toy with the Sabres. In the first game they chased Miller within 5 minutes, the second game they pulled a vintage 2011 playoffs comeback to win 5-4 in OT, and the most recent game was a 7-2 laugher where the Flyers put up 7 unanswered. However something Sabres fans can grab onto is that these three matchups were before Ryan Miller got hot and the new bodies in the lineup in the form of Marcus Foligno, Tyler Ennis, Cody Hodgson, and Alex Sulzer. Also two of these games happened when Leino had under 5 goals and he scored in one of them. He has 7 now! Sorry, I thought Flyers fans would like that. This is technically Buffalo's 3rd "game 7" of the season the first a 5-1 win against the Caps in DC and the second a thrilling 6-5 OT win against the Leafs Tuesday in the FN Center. Two different ways to win, but both count for two points. One of these days these games are going to give me a heart attack. Projected Lineup: Stafford-Ennis-Foligno Vanek-Hodgson-Tropp Leino-Roy-Pominville Gerbe-McCormick-Kaleta Regehr-Sekera Sulzer-Leopold Weber-McNabb Miller (Enroth)
  6. The Sabres and Flyers share the ice for the 3rd time tonight, however the first at the Wells Fargo Center. These two teams do not really like eachother after last seasons 7 game series. Philly has won the first two meetings in two different ways. The first they chased Ryan Miller early and held onto a 3-2 win. The second they pulled a 2010 playoffs come back. The Flyers trailed 3-0 and came back to win 4-3 in OT thanks to a great pass by MA Gragnani to Claude Giroux sending him in alone on Miller. Ville Leino returns to Philly tonight, should be interesting the reception he receives. Remember when Leino saved the Flyers in round 1? Leino robbed Ennis from Sabres history... I throw up in my mouth everytime I remember we lost to Boucher, Leighton, and Bobrovsky. Unlike the first two meetings Jhonas Enroth will start tonight for Buffalo. Makes sense seeing tomorrow's game against Montreal is more of a must win than tonight's against Philly. I think Tuesday's loss to NJ was the final nail in the coffin. They missed two chances to make up ground on Toronto. They can only lose 5 games of the next 22 which includes a west coast trip to Vancouver and Anaheim. As well as 2 more stops in Boston and one more after tonight in Philly. Therefore the auditions for the tradeable pieces start tonight. I am hoping for a strong night from Jordan Leopold and Paul Gaustad so maybe the Flyers will be interested in one or both of them. Expected Lineup: Leino-Roy-Pominville Vanek-Ennis-Gerbe Stafford-Gaustad-Kaleta Kassian-Ellis-McCormick Ehrhoff-Myers Regher-Leopold Weber-Sekera Enroth (Miller) Prediction:Flyers are hurt maybe they get lucky? Nope they will Bryz look like a star 4-1 Flyers
  7. Who do you think should be the starting goalie for the Flyers, Bryzgalov or Bobrovsky? Personally I think Bob should be the starter. He has already proved that he's better than Bryz, so I'm not sure why they never have him start! Am I the only one that thinks so?? I just want to see what everyone else's opinions are.
