I didn't get to watch this game today, but looking at the result, all I gotta say is "Wow".

This may not be a surprise to people who think Boston has a legit shot for a deep run, but I for one, had the Caps taking this series, I see Washington a big, strong, skilled team, and really didn't think Boston, even WITH Taylor Hall, had it in them to boot them.

Obviously series isn't over, but barring a complete collapse of Maple Leaf proportions, Washington will be hard pressed to win three straight.

I don't know. I don't think any real surprise here. Boston is simply the better team.  The series isn't over but I wasn't impressed with the Caps down the stretch.

I called Bruins in 6 but I might end up being wrong the other direction.

Caps may have some size and strength, but they lack hockey skills as compared to top clubs like Boston. Not great stickhandlers.  Their power play rushes through center ice are still fairly anemic.

But they gave the effort tonight, can’t fault them on those grounds.

On the first goal, when Pastrnak blew by Nic #1 (Dowd) then failed to be checked by Nic #2 (-k Jensen) to just skate right in front of the crease to bury it, I can imagine him thinking:

”Dude...let me slide right in, why dontcha, still counts; like, whatever, not taking it back. (Hosers.)”

Hope the Brewskis continue a good run.

Well shoot, I detect a wee tad of Schaudenfreude there.  It’s OK, all are free to think and feel as they like.

Here’s a fun fact that perhaps only the Capitals, with perhaps the most hapless playoff record of any consistently good regular season club over the decades, could possibly attain...

...starting with the season they won the Cup (2018), then including the 3 following playoff seasons...they actually have a losing record!  Overall in these 4 playoff seasons, they are 19 wins, 20 losses.  (I’m not counting the games they played in the 2020 bubble for seeding, where they went dead-even 1-1-1.)

Stated differently, 2018 seems a long time ago.

I love it....bruins on to round # 2. It does irk me to see a post season without Ovi going past round one, and now he's a UFA, i don't think there is any chance he does not remain a Cap.

Next up is Isles or Penguins.

Late, high, launched.

Yes, suspension worthy to me.

I'm happy. A lot of Twitter and Facebook comments I see stipulate that they hate Boston more than any other team, even among those glad that the Caps lost.  I'm guessing a lot of jealous people living in Canada. Possibly some New Yorkers carrying some hate of Boston over from other sports.   I actually don't dislike Boston. The only thing I don't like it's their fricken announcers, but I just watch the opposition feed.

But I do hate the Capitals more than any other franchise and fan base.  And it's not even close.  Thankfully, we're nearing the time when Ovechkin fades back to Russia and 95% of the fan base crawls back under whatever rock from which they crawled out after his arrival.

Back to cheap, easily obtainable hockey game tickets for actual hockey fans within driving distance!

Nope, not his fault...solid coach, always has been.

Let's not forget a good portion of this series, the bruins were outplayed, imo, and the difference was rask.

Agreed.   But not always relevant, right?

I completely hope you're right.   I wonder.

Accurate description of the series, too, IMO.

Not to ruin a good Caps Playoffs Futility story, but I forgot they lost to the Canes in 7, not 5, in 2019.  (They lost 4 of the last 5 making this yet another series they lost being up 2 games for which they are specialists.)

OK, they’re 21-20 in this period, not 19-20.  (5-12 since the Cup.) Give ‘em one more year to lose a first-rounder by 4-2 or worse to get them under .500 since and including 2018’s 16-8 run.
