All trash talking aside, the Islanders still have the personnel, and if they keep their key RFA's, the core, to attempt a return to this point next season to see if they can get it done then.

Key RFA's for NY:
Ilya Sorokin (G)
Adam Pelech (D)
Anthony Beauvillier (W)

Also, some UFA's that may or may not return:
Casey Cizikas (C)
Travis Zajac (C)
Kyle Palmieri (W)

And of course, they should have their captain Anders Lee return and be a factor in any runs they make.

It,s simple if a player goes down and a team wants to spend the cash to make the playoffs,once the injured player comes back it,s up to the team to play one of them or sit others to play within the cap

It's even SIMPLER than that:

The NHL has set up, for quite some time now, where there is no salary cap for the playoffs.
Call it a terrible ruling, policy, whatever, but that's what it is, and has been for some time.

The Lightning operated within those guidelines.
To "cheat" implies a team did something AGAINST the rules, which the Bolts did not.
They simply made the best of what the rules allowed them to do.

If things are to be changed, they are to be done at the league office level, then the Lightning and everyone else, will have to abide by THOSE new rules.

At the end of the day, the better team simply won out.
Period.

Isles weren't good enough to beat TB last year, they weren't this year.
Good team, but just not good enough against this Bolts team.

And this is the last you will hear from me on "cheating".
I am done trying to explain this to people who just want to see things how they want to see things.

Good luck to the Isles in 2021-22.

But unless Cirelli shoots up into one of the Bolts at the bench (into whomever the Isle is at his bench) they're really not going to call that.
