Prospect Roundup: The Standouts from the U-20 Four Nations Tournament

Tony Ferrari

The host nation wound up finishing tied for the best record but ran away with the goal differential crown. The Czech squad had quite a few of their top names in defender Stanislav Svozil (Columbus) and David Jiříček (2022 draft) as well as top forwards Jan Myšák (Montreal) and Pavel Novák (Minnesota Wild). The depth for the squad that came to play was a big reason for their success though.

The aforementioned Myšák and Novák (Minnesota) were centered by Josef Koláček and they were the driving force of the team throughout the international U20 exhibition season, accounting for 46% of their offense over seven games this summer together. All three should be locks to make the World Junior roster and should be some of the team's top difference makers at the annual under-20 event.

I always had an interest to this prospect and how he progressed. Czech players are pretty hard working sportsmen, as well as their hockey is on the top too among hockey in Canada, USA, Finland,Sweden and Russia. Nice to find out that Pavel Novak is becoming noticeable.

I just read again the aticle from the Wild.com regarding our 7 drafts this season:

https://www.nhl.com/wild/news/2021-draft-class-072421/c-325795646

My goal was to find out of 2 drafted forwards(round#3 Bankier and round#4 Pillar). Presenting an interest that both forwards played together for 2 seasons in a row with Kamloops Blazers; probably, developed some chemistry and both are having a nice scoring/offensive mentality.

The most youngest NHL player now is Finish professional hockey center  Jesperi Kotkaniemi (born on July 6,2020).  He started his rookie NHL season in 2018-2019 at the age 18 and played that season 79 games(11 goals;23 assists). We should involved our center Rossi as well as for some NHL tryout too this season. He is in a very good shape now and if he will show his best skills at training camp then maybe he will have that chance too?

My mistake. Kotkaniemi was born on July 6, 2000.

Marat Khusnutdinov is making the progress at KHL for the SKA St. Petersburg team in a new 2021-2022 starting season. In 2 played games he is having 3 points (1 goal;2 assists;+/- +2) already.

Here is a new video from the Russo twit on Marat's assist to Kemppainen's goal:"Khusnutdinov still making steals and plays".

Khusnutdinov's KHL contract expires after this season (I think), and I'd imagine Minnesota would sign him to an entry level deal immediately.

I agree with Pronman's rankings for a few reasons.  Unlike a lot of the folks you see on Wild Twitter who think every player we drafted is some kind of super stud, he brings up the right questions about these players mobility and whether their success at lower levels can really translate when they have those glaring deficiencies in their skating.

Boldy may have great hands and good on ice vision...but his skating is not that great.  Its a speed league.  Its hard to believe that wouldn't be a limiting factor to his game or his potential.  Can he develop that area to make it workable?  Maybe...Granlund had to improve his quickness after his first season where he struggled a lot.  Yet I don't think he would ever be considered a great skater.

IMO, this is why in the draft one would think you'd want to prioritize that skating be a player's strength not their weakness.  You shouldn't complain about how your team lacks speed when you keep drafting players you know are not great at that area of their game.

Hockeywilderness.com published recently an interesting article regarding our prospect Vladislav Firstov.

https://www.hockeywilderness.com/2021/9/7/22658527/top-25-under-25-vladislav-firstov-moves-up-to-no-13-minnesota-wild-prospects

Certainly our 2nd round draft, 42 overall is presenting an interest for the main club.

Just finished watching our 1st game against Blackhawks. We won it with a score 3:2. Jones was in the net.  Chaffee from an assist of Beckman and Addison; Rossi from an assist of Boldy; and O'Rourke were able to place 3 goals. Gordeev and Novak were noticeable too because of blocking shots. Beckman had few chances to score. 1st and 3rd periods were better for our team than the 2nd one. In general both teams were pretty competitive to each other.

Today is a last day out of 5 for our prospects camp. We are having a second game against Chicago team at 1 p.m. Our team showed a characters last game in Addison's fighting; in Lodnia drew a penalty which resulted O'Rourke's goal; in Gordeev's and Novak's blocked shots; and overall tough win. All goals we can see on Russo twit. A Rossi's goal ,personally for me, was a high level professional goal which came from a superb Boldy's pass. Interesting,  in this line were involved Beckman and Gordy for that goal. Lodnia was noticeable too, who is a single prospect in that team having a KHL experience.
