I agree that the money might have been a bit much, but, it could be forgiven if he helps the Wild generate a bit more offense from the blue line...and that DOESN'T mean Goligoski has to necessarily score goals, but simply find open forwards on a rush and make intelligent plays on transition...something the Wild were pretty bad at overall in recent seasons. Not surpirsed Savard departed, but I am surprised Bogo is back......honestly, and people may laugh, but I would have preferred Luke Schenn over Bogo (Schenn going to Vancouver). I know the Bolts FO only saw Schenn as a spare defenseman, but Schenner is on a two year 850K contract now with Vancouver, while Bogo is on the same for a bit longer term. I like Schenn's physical play a bit more than Bogo's and I think the skates a bit better....although, and this is where probably the Bolts see things better than I, Bogo may be the better "defensive" option... a bit better positionally and blocks shots better. At any rate, they are almost the same player, though I prefer Schenn. And speaking of Schenn, I like the signing for Vancouver as they desperately needed some toughness on that blue line with the decline and apparent departure now of Alex Edler. Schenn may be a bit exposed on the Canucks more than he was on the Lightning, however, so it will take a total team effort on the part of Vancouver to help out Thatcher (and apparently Jaroslav Halak) in goal. Jonathan Bernier on NJ is very good. Berns did a hell of a job behind a very porous Detroit defense, he will be expected to do the same with a just as porous Devil defense. Ryan Suter in Dallas? Wow. This, just one week after trotting out Chris Driedger live in front of their fans as their starting goalie. They have a team that is not going to make the playoffs, and they brought in a goalie who may win two or three more games… but not enough to put them over the top. They also get an injury-prone winger with a career high of 62 points. Schwartz is now 29 and coming off a 21-point year (40 games). He had 57 points the year prior. But in Seattle he will lead the offense along with Jordan Eberle, Jared McCann, Yanni Gourde, Calle Jarnkrok, Joonas Donskoi and Colin Blackwell. Fantasy Players Impacted: The big one here is Grubauer. He went from a top-three fantasy netminder to a Tier 2 or even a Tier 3 own. Not only will the wins be fewer, but if the Kraken don't trade Driedger, then Grubauer will have to fight to play even 50 games. I agree with you as well. Forbort is your typical big nasty throwback type defender. When he messes up, it is easy to criticize and point out his flaws. However, when he is laying people out (or you simply DON'T hear his name called too much), in his case, that is a GOOD thing......... kinda like Braden Coburn. Those types of players are either leaving bodies on the ice or going about their game so nondescriptly, one doesn't notice they are doing a reasonable job. They DO look like they may be tougher to play against from a physical standpoint, but at the same time, I can see many of those guys being defensive LIABILITIES on a techincal level. However they turned down a previous Jets' offer for him and now they lost both Oleksiak and the Dick for only a third pick. Wonderful management. F Ryan Suter Back at the time they selected the wrong Lundqvist, now they picked the wrong Suter. 4-yr contract = facepalm. At $3.6M AAV = double facepalm. with a full NMC = triple facepalm. He still might be useful on the second PP unit but the objective was to find a young big physical D-man capable to support the offense. Not the exact opposite. Hate the signing, especially with Klingberg looking for a new contract next season. D- Brayden Holtby Nice move to show how the management fully trust Öttinger. With Colton Point re-signing, now they have a full fifth line with only goalies. Oh wait... Maybe they don't want to sign him and prefer to get some sort of return for him during the season? Hence the assortment of different type defensemen they have or have signed....almost like you have no two alike. Could be an advantage. In the meantime, maybe they try treading water in a division that, outside of Colorado, really doesn't look that powerful at all, as they try and see how some young bodies in the minors could be worked in. Having that many veterans surely means SOMEONE is gonna need IR time. But to me, the biggest thing with Dallas is their playstyle, or rather, the COACHED playstyle. It was always a headscratcher to me why a team with Seguin, Benn, Radulov, Heiskanen, Klingberg, even Gurianov and Lindell if properly used on offense, are asked to play such a heavy defensive game when it would seem to be better to just turn them loose, even at the cost of some defense. I'd like to see a change in coaching or playing philosophy that just lets some of those boys do what they do.....team now has some decent 'stay at home' types on the blue line and Khudobin and even Oettinger have shown themselves to be sharp, so they could deal with a bit of defensive adversity...meanwhile the team actually **gasp** SCORES more goals! Arizona, Minnesota....not exactly "stiff competition". Nashville, even St. Louis looks like they've taken steps backwards. Who knows what you will get from Chicago or Winnipeg. Colorado is the team to beat.....so, yea, the Stars may be right there in the top 4 and more a more exciting product if the offense is allowed to be, well, offensive. Bowness is a 90's defense-first coach, and you can really feel guys like Gurianov and Heiskanen are kinda tight to this system. Are they pissed? We'll know after next season. Problem is, they are not sufficiently bad to scrap it and change the coach/philosophy. What is strange is this 180° turnaround during the 2020 playoffs, more specifically since game #4 vs. Calgary where they were about to trail 3-1 in the series. From that point it was all offense, the series vs. Colorado and Vegas was crazy, guys were flying, even Lindell scored in breakaways and Comeau managed to """"""contribute"""""". Unreal and enjoyable. And it worked. So this roster with this coach can play that type of game. For the new season, back to the original with a boring mindset and system. Ok the team was depleted with injuries, you had to adapt to this but still. Sometimes I miss the Ruff days where it was: "screw that, rush all the way and we'll see what happens". As is usually the case with the Senators, it will likely come down to what kind of foresight ownership has. The way things stand now, Tkachuk can be part of a very good, very skilled core, especially up front, if he stays. I like the talent they have there.... Batherson, Norris, Brown, Stutzle, along with Tkachuk on the forward ranks... Chabot, Brannstrom, and Mete on defense. The team will need some more guys with sandpaper and grit....sort of in the mold of Austin Watson and Nick Paul that they already have, but perhaps younger to be viable long term. Nick Ritchie at just 25 would have been a real good signing for Ottawa, but unfortunately, the Leafs signed him first. And maybe the team looks into getting a guy that would eventually be the long term goalie as I am not sure if Matt Murray can be that guy for them in about 2 or 3 seasons when this team should be really good. Sens have a crap ton of cap space...in fact, they need to spend MORE to get to the floor still!
