Longtime Ducks Captain Ryan Getzlaf is Staying Home

Despite rumors of him moving elsewhere, Ryan Getzlaf is sticking in Anaheim on a one-year deal.

Ryan Getzlaf, the last remaining member of the 2005-06 team when Anaheim was still known as the Mighty Ducks, will remain with the club on a one-year, $4.5-million deal.

Getzlaf has played all 16 years of his NHL career with the Californian team, recording a career-high 91 points in 2008-09 and posting at least 60 points on eight occasions.

Beyond Getzlaf's offensive numbers, the Ducks have leaned heavily on him to be a leader, making him captain for the past 11 years, and his big frame of 6-foot-3 and 227 pounds.

Anaheim's all-time leader in assists and games played with 703 and 1,101, respectively, Getzlaf also has two Olympic championships, a World Cup title, gold at both the U-18 and U-20 level with Canada and, of course, won the 2007 Stanley Cup with the Ducks.

Getzlaf is nowhere near the level he used to play at, having posted just five goals and 17 points in 48 games, but with a young, developing group in Anaheim, his veteran presence is still important to Anaheim's management.

Was hoping Getzlaf accepted a low cost deal to reunite with Maroon on the Bolts, but 4M plus would have been a bit high for TB to try and sign him away from Anaheim.

Injury issues aside, the guy is still a good face off man, can still hit and if underestimated because of his age, can still put a few past the goalie.
