Juuse Saros signs for $5M AAV over 4 years. Saros is 26, coming off a season where he put up 2.27/.927 despite starting the season terribly. Of 25 goalies making $4M+ last season, three finished with a better GAA and two had a better SV%. From where I sit (as, full disclosure, his owner in NAHANA FHL) this is a solid deal for the Preds and the player. Not the resume Pekka had but when consider he is only making half as much as a Bob or Price it seems like a steal. This kid can play. The only knock on him if he has one is just his size he doesn't take up much net but makes up with it with sound positioning and very good reflexes. He doesn't get out the crease very far and tries best he can to seal off as much net as possible for a guy his size. Preds needs to shore up their lack of talent in the crease in the draft eventually unless they plan on Saros never needing any help. This will buy them sometime. But they need help all over the roster. Could still use some scoring on the wings. And this new retooled blueline will leave them guessing for a while. The playoffs are not out of the question but they will have to fight harder to make it. This kid can play. In his career Rinne had a better season GAA than Saros last year twice and a better SV% once, tying Saros once more.
