Ryan Donato's one-year, $750,000 contract has been officially announced by the Seattle Kraken.

The terms of the deal were first reported by CapFriendly on Sunday. "Ryan's hockey sense and ability to contribute on the scoresheet are two ingredients we are excited to add to our forward group," said Kraken GM Ron Francis. "We like his offensive potential and believe he can add scoring depth." Donato had six goals and 20 points in 50 games with the San Jose Sharks last season. He didn't receive a qualifying offer from San Jose, which resulted in him becoming an unrestricted free agent.

Classic low cost, "show me" contract.

Still only 25 and for whatever reason, has been very inconsistent so far in the NHL with Boston, Minnesota, and San Jose.
He has shown flashes of what he can be....good skater with decent speed, loves to shoot the puck, does a bit of hitting, and does a reasonable job at protecting the puck as he isn't really a turnover machine.

Don't know if its a mental thing at this point, or he simply doesn't have the heart to be a full time, every day NHL player, but he has definitely been a mystery to this point.

Seattle risks nothing handing him a 750K for just the year, as they can always just bid adieu at the end of it, or, as I am sure they are hoping, Donato finally breaks out and becomes worthy of something more than that for them!
