thegx.ca Posted November 28, 2021 Share Posted November 28, 2021 Lucic saw him turning left and went for that hit but Demelo cut back right last second and ducked too, so that made the hit worse than if he would have just kept his direction left - wasn't intentional, especially when Demelo can't just keep flinching left/right purposely keeping his back to others and not expect to be hit. thegx.ca Posted November 30, 2021 Share Posted November 30, 2021 Tonights game against Pittsburg, they talked about the hit and that Lucic said to always looks at his targets eyes to check if they know his going at them - he said Demelo locked eyes with him and knew he was going to hit him and chose to duck putting himself in worse position. During the game they showed replays of Lucic hitting others and letting off when the other didn't see him, then replays of him finishing checks and can tell when he locks eyes with his target. Lucic said in interview that the hitter has responsibility not to hit player in vulnerable position, but the target also has responsibility not to put himself in worse position at last moment. I think that's what Demelo was doing here, he certainly got the major penalty and it was the turning point of the game for Winnipeg to win.
