We have our goalie, for now

Luukenen finally gets rewarded for his stellar play in goal and Sabres win at Winnipeg.   So they beat a good team on the road, so hopefully they can build off this.  At the Wild next.  Yikes.  Luukenen has been good in every game he has played.  Now we need Tuch

Luukenen shines again.  Sabres outplayed them but he sure made some great saves.  Luukenen has not played one bad game.  But now we go to Pittsburgh and have to put the backup in.  Not sure if Toharski is back?  I hope so.  We are in trouble if Dell has to play.  Luukenen has earned the job.  It did not take him long. He has been impressive.  We now must address other areas of course.  Getting Tuch back is a big one. He is getting close to returning.  Cant wait

Agreed.  He has been more than solid. The only visible weakness I can see is his five-hole.  If he can clean up this aspect, the kid may soon become not only a future of the Sabres, but a premier goalie in the NHL.  He has all the tools for that.

Agree with the general consensus that Luukko has lived up to his billing so far.

If he IS the real deal, the areas of his deficiencies will be ironed out through experience and coaching.
Even Andrei Vasilevskiy had things he needed to improve upon at the NHL level before he became what he is today.

Which leads me to.....

The Sabres REALLY need to get a solid veteran backup for Luukko.
Either a straight back up, or a solid guy they can use in a timeshare situation to help take the heat off of him when things get too hot (and they will!).

Again, using the Vasilevskiy example, he had Ben Bishop for a short while as he rounded into NHL everyday shape, and even after Bishop was traded away, the Bolts always had a good veteran backup behind Vasy.

Buffalo needs to do the same for Luukko.
Subban, Dell, or ToHARski :shifty: , aren't gonna cut it.

They could use a Khudobin, a Wedgewood, or even a healthy Craig Anderson if that is even possible, to help support up n comer Luukkoenen.
Maybe even a Jonas Korpisalo.

Their plan - as evidenced by one year deals to ToHARski, Anderson, and trading for Subban - was to keep UPL in the AHL for this season, let him get playing time and not throw him into the deep end of the pool wearing an anchor of a roster.

Like Hart in Philly, he was thrust into the role and has grabbed the opportunity.

The only real question is whether Buffalo keeps giving him rope or goes back to their plan.

HJ are you intentionally misspelling the last name of every goalie to play for the Sabres since Ryan Miller? :NinjaLookLeftRight1:
